Audrey Hepburn Resurrected for Chocolate Ad

Posted: 04 Mar 2013 11:10 AM PST

Through the magic of computer-generated imagery, Galaxy Chocolate has brought Audrey Hepburn back to life for a one-minute commercial by ad agency AMV BBDO and visual-effects company Framestore.

A team of four animators worked on recreating Hepburn's infectious smile as she rides a bus on the Amalfi coast, with many scenes requiring a frame-by-frame hand animation technique to finish the job, reminiscent of when Fred Astaire danced with a Dirt Devil vacuum in 1997, ushering in a new age of dead celebrities as pitchmen.

Hepburn's estate is controlled by her two sons, Sean Ferrer and Luca Dotti, who permitted the use of their mother's image.

The "Breakfast at Tiffany's" star also posthumously appeared in a 2009 GAP ad.

Is Christopher Nolan Developing Justice League with Christian Bale as Batman?

Posted: 04 Mar 2013 10:15 AM PST

Christopher Nolan may be developing the Justice League movie at Warner Bros.

There have been a number of intriguing rumors circling Warner Bros. and DC Comics long-gestating superhero ensemble Justice League in the last few months. Now a new story has surfaced that puts Christopher Nolan in the producer's seat with Christian Bale returning as Batman and Henry Cavill reprising his role as Superman.

The project has long seemed in trouble, with DC Comics trying to catch up with Marvel Studios and their success with the Marvel's The Avengers franchise. Last month, it was widely rumored that Justice League's fate rested solely on the success or failure of Warner Bros.' Superman reboot Man of Steel. Then, it leaked that the studio was very unhappy with Will Beall's script, and that they are currently seeking out a new writer.

Now, it is being reported that Warner Bros. is bringing Christopher Nolan on to not only produce, but also shepherd the project, just as he did with Man of Steel.

This means that Christian Bale may return as Batman, even though he stated multiple times that The Dark Knight Rises would be his last turn as Bruce Wayne. The actor did reveal in a recent interview that, if Christopher Nolan came to him with another Batman story, he might be interested in donning the Bat-suit once again.

It is also being said that Man of Steel director Zack Snyder will produce Justice League alongside Christopher Nolan, and that he may possibly end up directing Justice League as well.

Christopher Nolan is also said to be developing/shepherding all of Warner Bros.' superhero projects from now on, in a role that may be similar to Mark Millar's consulting gig at Fox. Nothing has been confirmed (or denied) by the studio at this point, so consider this information a rumor for now.

Justice League comes to theaters in 2015.

Guardians of the Galaxy to Be a Stand-Alone Movie

Posted: 04 Mar 2013 10:14 AM PST

Guardians of the Galaxy is set almost entirely in outer space

Marvel's Phase II kicks off this summer with Iron Man 3, followed by Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, and The Avengers 2. Marvel Studios producer Kevin Feige recently explained the "cosmic" feel of these Phase II movies, while revealing that Guardians of the Galaxy takes place almost entirely in outer space.

Take a look at what he had to say in a recent interview, which includes interesting tidbits about the rest of these upcoming sequels.

"I wouldn't say that in a broad sense. The Thor film and the Guardians of the Galaxy film certainly are cosmic. Guardians and Thor will take the brunt of the cosmic side of the universe, particularly Guardians, which is 95% in space. I think Iron Man 3 shows the other side of Phase 2, which is delving deeper into the characters. Throwing them on a much more personal journey. And Captain America will showcase... What's exciting to me about Cap - sort of about Iron Man 3 too if you look at it - is it's tonally almost like a different genre. Shane Black has described Iron Man 3 as a Tom Clancy sort of political thriller, which I like a lot. We hired our directors on Cap because they loved our explanation that we really want to make a '70s political thriller masquerading as a big superhero movie. Just like with the first film - we got Joe Johnston because we said, 'We want to do a '40s World War Two movie masquerading as a big superhero movie.' I love that we're doing a sequel to a film that's a completely different genre than the first film. I think that's fun. And the comics do it all the time."

When asked if Guardians of the Galaxy will be integral to the plot of The Avengers 2, the producer revealed Guardians of the Galaxy is essentially a standalone film.

"I would say that it does not. It's much more of a standalone film. It takes place in the same universe. And when we've been on the other side of that universe in other movies, you might see those characteristics in Guardians, but The Avengers are not involved with what's happening out there at this time."

Guardians of the Galaxy comes to theaters August 1st, 2014 and stars Chris Pratt, Jason Momoa. The film is directed by James Gunn.

Steven Spielberg to Turn Stanley Kubrick's Napoleon Into a Mini-Series

Posted: 04 Mar 2013 09:06 AM PST

Steven Spielberg is developing a Stanley Kubrick screenplay into a Napoleon Bonaparte mini-series

Director Steven Spielberg is turning an unproduced Stanley Kubrick screenplay about French leader Napoleon Bonaparte into a TV mini-series.

Here's what the filmmaker had to say in a recent interview.

"I've been developing Stanley Kubrick's screenplay for a miniseries, not for a motion picture, about the life of Napoleon. Kubrick wrote the script in 1961, long time ago. And the Kubrick family, because we made A.I.: Artificial Intelligence together, the Kubrick family and I, the next project we are working on, the miniseries is going to be Napoleon."

After Stanely Kubrick's death in 1999, Steven Spielberg took the reins on A.I.: Artificial Intelligence, which was released in 2001.

Stanley Kubrick tried to make his Napoleon movie throughout the 1960s before abandoning it in the early 1970s after no Hollywood studio would finance the project. The late filmmaker researched the French leader for years, and offered the lead roles to Oskar Werner and Audrey Hepburn.

It isn't known if Steven Spielberg is working with a screenwriter for this mini-series, or if it has a network home at this time. He has previously produced the popular mini-series' Band of Brothers and The Pacific, both of which aired on HBO. We also reported in January that Steven Spielberg is reuniting with Tom Hanks and HBO for a third World War II mini-series.
