The Weekly Watch List (08/01): Five Must-Buy Comic Books

Posted: 31 Jul 2012 11:00 AM PDT

1. DAREDEVIL #16 Marvel's best series continues to, you know, be their best series as the Avengers attempt to bring back Matt Murdock. Left without any of his senses after being captured by the Latverians, a recent preview revealed that Giant Man has shrunk down and has travelled into Daredevil's brain in order to reactivate his senses one by one with the help of Doctor Strange and Iron Man. As if that isn't enough, the secret discovered by Foggy Nelson will FINALLY be revealed. What could be so awful that it leads to the end of Nelson & Murdock?! I for one can't wait to find out! Chris Samnee's pencils are perfectly suited to the series and he maintains the high level of quality set by Paolo Rivera and Marcos Martin. The Eisner Award winning comic is a must-buy, and if you're not picking it up, kick yourself. Hard. 2. AVENGERS VS. X-MEN

New Line Register Another Possible Title For 3rd HOBBIT Movie

Posted: 31 Jul 2012 10:46 AM PDT

As we know, the titles "The Desolation Of Smaug" and "Riddles In The Dark" were registered by Warner Bros. Now TheOneRing.net reveal that a third name can be added top the list.. Riddles In The Dark seems unlikely, as this refers to a scene that occurs -- or at least definitely should occur -- in the first movie. Apparently studios will often register multiple titles to throw people off the scent a bit. Desolation Of Smaug sounds much more promising, but this new one, The Battle Of The Five Armies, is the one my money's on. The battle refers to the final, epic clash in the book, and we expected it would be the finale of the second movie. But if it is indeed the title that will be used for the controversial third film in the series, it means that Jackson does intend to stretch out the main narrative of

Jim Croce's Widow Reveals Their 'Love at First Sight,' His Struggles With Money, Fidelity and Her Sexual Assault

Jim Croce, whose widow Ingrid just released a book about.GAB Archive, Redferns

Jim Croce was a standout of the early-'70s singer-songwriter era with his hits "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown," "Operator (That's Not the Way It Feels)" and "Time in a Bottle." Tragically, at the height of his fame, Croce died in a plane crash in Louisiana in 1973. He was only 30.

Though his songs projected an easygoing persona, Croce's success hid his professional and personal struggles, as told in a recently-published book about the singer, I Got a Name: The Jim Croce Story, written by his widow Ingrid Croce.

"The contracts that we signed back then were onerous," she tells Spinner. "We made $200 a week until Jim died. He was out there performing, he was on TV and radio and his albums were selling, but he died penniless. It was a very big conflict for him -- he graduated from college, his parents were bugging him, 'You got a college degree. What are you doing with it?' He hated disappointing anyone, he couldn't say no. So he was really caught in the middle of wanting to do what he knew he had to do, which was to write songs and make music, but he had a family to raise. Our son [A.J.] had been born and it was really financially difficult to make it work."

Angie Harmon Talks More About Her Interest In Playing SHE-HULK

Back in May, Angie Harmon (Rizzoli & Isles) revealed that she is interested in playing She-Hulk, a.k.a. Jennifer Walters, the cousin of Bruce Banner/The Hulk. On last night's Late Night with Conan O'Brien, the host brought that up and the actress once again shared her thoughts on playing the Marvel superhero. Commenting on what exactly it is about the character that appeals to her, Harmon clearly shows just how enthusiastic she is about being given the opportunity to bring She-Hulk to the big or small screen. Movies you love that have covers you don't like?

Posted: 31 Jul 2012 10:05 AM PDT

I love Bruges (surprised?) but I put off watching for the first time for waay too long because of the front cover. None of them appealed to me. The cover made it look like some lame spy movie with shit humor. And I don't understand all of the pink they put into the letters either.. I am glad they put the swan in there though. But I'm glad I actually watched it when I did. I couldn't have been more wrong!

What covers do you dislike/ are misleading? I remember someone saying they didn't like the poster for the US version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo because it oversexualized the girl which went against the book or something..

Marc Guggenheim Explains The Decision Not To Use SMALLVILLE's Justin Hartley In ARROW

Posted: 30 Jul 2012 09:58 AM PDT

Considering the fact that Arrow isn't a Smallville spin-off, it shouldn't really come as too much of a surprise that Justin Hartley wasn't asked to return as Oliver Queen/Green Arrow in the new CW series. "We certainly wanted to chart our own course and destiny," producer Marc Guggenheim explained to reporters at the Television Critics Association's press tour yesterday (via Entertainment Weekly). "Justin is a terrific Arrow. Michael Keaton [as Batman] doesn't affect your love for Christian Bale and Christian Bale doesn't affect your love for Adam West...multiple iterations are possible." The series is also set to be a lot darker than Smallville with Guggenheim confirming that this particular iteration of Green Arrow won't be afraid to dish out some pretty extreme forms of justice when required. "The Arrow always gives the bad guy the opportunity to do the right thing...when he kills, he kills for necessity...it's not just random violence...we'll

EDITORIAL: Why Daredevil's Return to the Cinema Could Be the Best Comic Book Movie to Date

Posted: 30 Jul 2012 08:36 AM PDT

I was introduced to Daredevil at the age of 5 and have ever since been completely blown away by the character. From grandfather Stan Lee to godfather Frank Miller to Smith, Bendis, Brubaker, and Waid--the character's writing pedigree alone is worth praise. But I'd like to look into what defines Daredevil as a hero and why his cinematic journey could be the most breathtaking we've ever seen. Matt Murdock is a hero, damn it. And he's a hero all the time. See, when Tony Stark isn't Iron Man, he runs into the issue of being super sexy, being a philanthropist, a playboy, and a billionaire. When Bruce Wayne isn't Batman, he's trying to fool the masses that he isn't Batman. When Peter Parker isn't Spider-Man, he's taking pictures...of Spider-Man (okay, he's got a social life). But when Murdock isn't Daredevil, he's still constantly seeking justice as a lawyer. He's a man truly

ANT-MAN Gearing For A London Shoot; 2014 Release Likely?

Posted: 30 Jul 2012 09:50 AM PDT

Latino Review has broken yet another Marvel Studios scoop. The site (who revealed earlier this summer that Guardians Of The Galaxy would be Marvel's other 2014 project) now says that, following the end of Thor: The Dark World's production this summer, Marvel will begin production on Edgar Wright's Ant-Man in London. The film has been in development for some time, so those who have been looking forward to seeing Wright's take on the Marvel character should be excited to hear this news. Wright is currently set to film The World's End later this year, reteaming with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. Thor: The Dark World will begin production in London next month. So production on Ant-Man should begin sometime next year, as was previously stated by Pegg. Also, Latino Review says that it's looking likely that Ant-Man will be Marvel's third 2014 release, which has been rumored since the recent debut of
