I just watched Shawshank Redemption and The Fall, both for the first time, in one sitting. I still have goosebumps.

Posted: 30 Apr 2012 10:15 AM PDT

Some background: I've never really been one to watch movies. The only ones I've ever watched in their entirety are the Harry Potter movies, which, while spectacular, didn't do much to get me watching more films. I've always preferred to read books than watch cinema. I was pretty much ignorant of anything to do with movies.

But yesterday, a friend of mine forced me to watch those two films. It was an experience I am not likely to forget any time soon. I didn't think it was possible for any movie to invoke the kind of awe and wonder that Shawshank Redemption did. I also didn't think it possible for the rich tapestry of scenes to exist anywhere outside of my imagination; However, The Fall proved me dead wrong on that account.

I really don't know why I'm even making this post. I suppose I just have to share this feeling of wonder at discovering something as amazing as the movies. I had never payed any attention to this subreddit before, but now, it's going to be my first stop for movie recommendations.

So, to my cinéphile friend: thank you, thank you, thank you.

Why is 48fps too fast for film but 60fps is preferred for video games?

Posted: 30 Apr 2012 10:09 AM PDT

I'm sure there is an obvious answer to my question.

Standard film is 24fps

The Hobbit will be filmed in 48fps

60fps is optimal for video games and games that run in 30fps are usually seen as unoptimized or poorly made.

In Anger Management, Charlie Sheen stars as "Charlie," a non-traditional therapist specializing in anger management. He has a successful private practice, holding sessions with his group of primary patients each week, as well as performing pro bono counseling for an inmate group at a state prison.

Prior to his career as a therapist, Charlie was a stalled minor league baseball prospect whose road to the majors was sidetracked by his own struggle with anger issues. After a stint in anger management therapy, he made it to the majors and had one terrific season before his anger issues put him on the shelf for good. In the final game of his career, he tried to snap a bat over his leg, which resulted in a career-ending injury. That injury led him back to school and to his current profession. Charlie thrives on the chaos in his life while still battling his own anger issues. His life is complicated by his relationships with his own therapist/best friend, an ex-wife whose positive outlook but poor choice in men frustrates Charlie, and their 13-year-old daughter who has obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Anger Management episode 1.1, "Pilot" airs on FX June 28th, 2012. The episode stars Michael Arden, Selma Blair, Daniela Bobadilla, Brett Butler, Noureen DeWulf, Aldo Gonzalez, Katlin Mastandrea, Derek Richardson.

It Seems Marvel Are Bringing Us Another Solo HULK Movie After All

Posted: 30 Apr 2012 10:12 AM PDT

Forbes have posted an article on Marvel's 5 year build up to The Avengers, which includes some very interesting quotes from Marvel's Paul Gitter. It seems that despite Kevin Feige seemingly dismissing the idea of another solo movie outing for The Hulk, strong fan reaction to Mark Ruffalo's take on Bruce Banner and his CG alter ego may have them thinking twice. Gitter says Marvel are "pleasantly surprised by the phenomenal response. His [Hulk's] sales are up in a major way. We repositioned him from where he was always misunderstood to now depicting him in a more heroic and aspirational manner.". According to Gitter, this means another solo Hulk movie in 2015.. If the Hulk's successful turnaround continues, Gitter says Marvel will 'spin him off to a stand-alone [TV] program next year,' supported by a big budget franchise movie in 2015." The tv series (which will be produced by Guillermo Del Toro) we
