SW4 A New Hope: trash compactor

Posted: 30 Jun 2013 08:35 AM PDT

So I was playing Angry birds - SW a couple of days ago, and had a thought: why did the Death Star actually have a trash compactor? If you are going to dump a couple of tons of trash into a nearby star or gas giant, what do you care if it has this or that volume?

Pixar Universe

Posted: 30 Jun 2013 09:35 AM PDT

Due to Monsters University, the idea of a shared Pixar Universe has crossed my mind again. We all know of the Easter Eggs but many connect the films to a shared universe.

Starting with Toy Story, all three clearly take place in the same world. This starts with Toy Story set in 1995 and ends with Toy Story 3 in 2010. Andy grows in real time.

A Bugs Life can clearly be linked to the Toy Story world. A Pizza Planet Truck is seen above the 'big city' where Flik finds the circus. The whole story could easily happen in Toy Story's world. The bugs are really talking like they do in reality but for story purpose they speak English. More on this later.

Monsters Inc fits into the same Universe. Who is to say a monster never visited Andy while he was younger?

Finding Nemo is next, which stretches the idea a bit. To connect Finding Nemo to the universe it has to be viewed like A Bugs Life. The fish are in their own adventure and for the sake of story we view them talking English. If Andy saw the fish talking he would simply hear nothing.

The Incredibles is different from the rest so far. It is a fictional universe in the Pixar universe. This is proven by a child reading an Incredibles comic in the dentist waiting room during Finding Nemo. This is the only logical explanation since superheroes just would not fit in to the Toy Story world. The Incredibles is therefore a movie that Andy could easily go view at his local cinema.

Cars is the most out there to work. Some believe that its far after WALL-E where using human DNA, cars were created with human personalities. This sounds dumb.

Ratatouille helps prove the theory that we hear animals in English but humans here their normal voices. Remy is clearly shown squeaking when around Linguini. Since this film is set in Paris it is very plausible fits in to the universe.

WALL-E is set far into the future after Toy Story 3 ends. In Toy Story 3 we see Buy n Large batteries showing the terrible fate of our world.

UP at first has little connection but in Toy Story 3 there is a visible letter from Carl and Ellie in Andy's bedroom. Does this mean Andy is somehow related to Carl? Perhaps a Great Uncle?

Brave needs little explanation as can clearly take place 500 years before Toy Story.

TL;DR Pixar has created a universe that stems from the original Toy Story.

DreamWorks Acquires Rights to The Fire Sermon Trilogy

Posted: 29 Jun 2013 10:31 AM PDT

DreamWorks acquires rights to YA novel series The Fire Sermon

DreamWorks has acquired the rights to author and poet Francesca Haig's YA novel trilogy The Fire Sermon. Carla Hacken is producing this futuristic thriller. Here is the synopsis:

"400 years after a nuclear apocalypse, society is left without technology and all humans are twins. One of each pair is physically perfect, and they are called Alphas, while the other, the Omega, bears some mutation. The apartheid society forces the mutated twins to settlements, even though when one twin dies, so does the other. This is the relationship between a brother and sister twin, and what happens when he becomes a leader in the repressed society."

The first book in the series is not yet available to the public, with DreamWorks picking up the work in manuscript form. Francesca Haig has the next two chapters sketched out, insuring a franchise for the studio in case the first movie catches on with audiences. Studios first caught wind of the novel series when six separate UK publishers started chasing the rights. The book does not yet have a U.S. publisher, with stateside rights going to auction on July 10th.

DreamWorks might wait and see how The Fire Sermon books resonate with an audience before even setting up a production start date, so its likely we won't see this trilogy debut on screen until at least 2016.

The Fire Sermon is in development .

Rosemarie DeWitt Lands the Female Lead in Kill the Messenger

Posted: 28 Jun 2013 07:29 PM PDT

Rosemarie DeWitt lands the female lead in Kill the Messenger

Rosemarie DeWitt is in negotiations to play the female lead in Kill the Messenger, alongside Jeremy Renner.

The project is based on the true story of Gary Webb, a San Jose Mercury News reporter who helped expose the CIA's involvement in a drug smuggling operation with Nicarauguan rebels in the 1980s. In an effort to discredit the writer, the agency launched a smear campaign before the journalist took his own life. No details were given for Rosemarie DeWitt's character. We reported earlier this week that Paz Vega is playing the girlfriend of a drug dealer, who seeks Gary's help in getting him out of jail.

Michael Cuesta is directing from a screenplay by Peter Landesman, which is adapted from Gary Webb's book Dark Alliance: The CIA, the Contras, and the Crack Cocaine Explosion and Nick Schou's Kill the Messenger: How the CIA's Crack-Cocaine Controversy Destroyed Journalist Gary Webb. Shooting is scheduled to begin in August, with rehearsals starting next month.

Rosemarie DeWitt most recently starred in The Watch, The Odd Life of Timothy Green, Promised Land, and the upcoming Touchy Feely.

Kill the Messenger comes to theaters in 2014 and stars Jeremy Renner, Paz Vega, Rosemarie DeWitt. The film is directed by Michael Cuesta.

Zombie Thriller 19 Lands at QED International

Posted: 28 Jun 2013 06:59 PM PDT

QED International picks up the zombie thriller 19

QED International's Bill Block has picked up a pre-emptive pitch for a zombie thriller entitled 19.

Jim Agnew and Sean Keller (Tokarev) are writing the screenplay, which puts a fresh spin on the undead genre. The story is set in a world where everyone becomes a zombie after turning 19 years of age, with the world now ruled by teenagers and children. The studio is also looking to turn this story into a movie trilogy, along with a series of books.

Jeff Chan is attached to direct, making his feature debut after directing two popular Internet shorts based on the Call of Duty video game franchise, which you can view on the filmmaker's official website.

Film 360 and McG's Wonderland Sound and Vision are attached to produce although no production schedule was released.
