J.J. Abrams to Produce One Last Thing Before I Go for Paramount Pictures

J.J. Abrams to produce One Last Thing Before I Go

J.J. Abrams will produce One Last Thing Before I Go for Paramount Pictures, based on the upcoming novel of the same name from author Jonathan Tropper.

Jonathan Tropper will adapt the screenplay himself. The story follows Silver, a man in midlife crisis whose ex-wife is marrying someone too nice to hate, and whose daughter is pregnant and on her way to Princeton. Silver tries to pull his broken family together only to discover that he could die at any moment because of his refusal to have an operation that could save his life.

Jonathan Tropper also has another book, titled This is Where I Leave You, set up at Warner Bros. with Adam Shankman directing, again from Tropper's own script. He is also the creator of the upcoming Cinemax series Banshee (which has nothing to do with the Marvel Mutant of the same name).

There is no production start date set for One Last Thing Before I Go, but the search for a director is underway. The book hits stores and online outlets this August.

One Last Thing Before I Go comes to theaters in 2014.

THE AVENGERS Console Game Coming Into Fruition?

Posted: 05 May 2012 10:23 AM PDT

As Marvel's The Avengers big screen assembly has gone on to become "one of the greatest superhero movies of all-time", predicted to have the biggest opening box office weekend ever, peculiarly there isn't a tie-in console video game coinciding with the film's release. Of course, there was a game in the making with THQ up until the Australian studio was closed down. But now a hint at another console game has shown itself via Fusible. "The Avengers video game looks to have a title — Avengers: Battle for Earth. On May 3, 2012, the domain name avengersbattleforearth.com (Whois) was registered through the brand protection company MarkMonitor. The name was registered by Marvel Characters, Inc. and is currently listed on Ubisoft's nameservers: nic1.ubisoft.com and nic2.ubisoft.com." Marvel's vice president of games production alerted us that announcements would unveil in the coming weeks, two weeks ago. And he also said that the Marvel: Avengers

Marvel's The Avengers Takes 2nd Biggest Opening with $80.5 Million

Posted: 05 May 2012 09:39 AM PDT

Marvel's The Avengers is on its way to biggest weekend opening of all time

Marvel's The Avengers has earned the second biggest opening day and Friday opening with $80.5 million, including $18.7 from its Midnight release. Though it is the 8th biggest midnight release of all time, it does hold the distinction of being the biggest superhero midnight debut ever, pulling in more than Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, and Captain America: The First Avenger combined.

Walt Disney Pictures is reporting that the film is on its way to a $175 million domestic weekend total. That would make it the biggest weekend opener of all time, stepping in front of previous record holder Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2, which earned $169 million last year. That franchise finale still holds the biggest Friday opening with $91 million.

So far, Marvel's The Avengers has raked in an impressive $334.3 million overseas, bringing its cumulative total to $575 million through Sunday. Not only is Joss Whedon's superhero ensemble about to break the weekend box office record, it has also received an A+ from American audiences on CinemaScore.

We'll have the final weekend tally for you later tomorrow.

Marvel's The Avengers was released May 4th, 2012 and stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Clark Gregg. The film is directed by Joss Whedon.

Quentin Tarantino Space Movie?

Posted: 05 May 2012 08:36 AM PDT

I was just thinking how cool a Quentin Tarantino space or science fiction film might be. I know it's not his style, but I'd love to see him broach that territory sometime in his career.

What do you think it might be like? Is that an area he should avoid or do you think his aesthetic style could flourish in such a genre?
