Arnold Schwarzenegger Joins Ten

Arnold Schwarzenegger signs on for David Ayer's Ten

Open Road Films has acquired all U.S.distribution rights to Ten, an action thriller starring screen legend Arnold Schwarzenegger, to be directed by David Ayer and financed by QED International. The announcement was made today by Tom Ortenberg, CEO of Open Road Films and Bill Block, CEO of QED International.

Schwarzenegger, who is currently filming The Tomb, will appear in The Expendables 2, being released in August, and stars in The Last Stand, which will be released in January 2013.

The project re-teams Open Road Films and filmmaker David Ayer, whose latest film, End of Watch, will be released by Open Road on September 28, 2012.

The original screenplay for Ten is by Skip Woods (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, A Good Day to Die Hard). David Ayer is helming the film. Bill Block, Paul Hanson, Joe Roth, Palak Patel and Albert S. Ruddy will serve as producers. Alex Ott of Ayer's Crave Films is executive producer.

In Ten, an elite DEA task force deals with the world's deadliest drug cartels. Specializing in complex mobile operations, the team executes a tactical raid on a cartel safe house. What looks to be a typical raid turns out to be an elaborate theft operation, pre-planned by the DEA squad. After hiding millions in stolen cash, the team believes their secret is safe - until someone begins assassinating them one by one.

"I am really excited about this project and the team that's come together," said Schwarzenegger. "David Ayer is incredibly talented and exactly what I want for a story this compelling."

Ayer stated, "This is going to be an amazing role for Arnold. Reality is the watchword of this project and an exciting cast is in the works. I couldn't be more excited as a filmmaker to work with one of my longtime heroes."

"We are thrilled to be working with a world class movie-star like Arnold Schwarzenegger and to continue to be in business with the extraordinarily talented David Ayer," stated Ortenberg. "And we could not be more pleased to be doing another picture with our friend and partner Bill Block."

Block stated, "We've put together a real dream team on Ten. Arnold has been a longtime friend and bringing him together with a provocative filmmaker like David Ayer as well as Tom Ortenberg and his talented team at Open Road is a win for all of us."

David Ayer's writing credits include 2001 hit film Training Day, which earned an Academy Award for Denzel Washington, as well as scripts for The Fast and the Furious, S.W.A.T. and U-571. He also wrote and directed Street Kings and Harsh Times. Ayer most recently directed End of Watch, which stars Academy Award nominee Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pe&#241a as young Los Angeles police officers as they patrol the city's meanest streets of south central Los Angeles. Giving the story a gripping, first-person immediacy, the action unfolds through footage from the handheld HD cameras of the police officers, gang members, surveillance cameras, and citizens caught in the line of fire to create a riveting portrait of the city's most dangerous corners, the cops who risk their lives there every day, and the price they and their families are forced to pay.

The deal was negotiated on behalf of Open Road Films by Ortenberg, General Counsel and Executive Vice President of Operations and Business Affairs, Elliott Kleinberg, and Senior Vice President of Acquisitions, Ben Cotner. Bill Block, along with Paul Hanson and Christopher J. Corabi, negotiated the deal on behalf of QED International. Patrick Knapp at Bloom Hergott Diemer Rosenthal negotiated on behalf of Schwarzenegger, along with Creative Artists Agency who negotiated on behalf of both Schwarzenegger and Ayer.

Ten comes to theaters in 2013 and stars Arnold Schwarzenegger. The film is directed by David Ayer.

Josh Wilding Reviews: JUAN OF THE DEAD

Posted: 07 May 2012 11:32 AM PDT

Following in the witty and gory footsteps of Shaun of the Dead, comes Cuba's first full-length horror film, Juan of the Dead! Juan of the Dead tells the blood-drenched tale of a slacker who decides to save Cuba from an invasion of cannibalistic zombies. As the zombies turn Havana into a gory circus of flying limbs and severed heads, the nightly news anchors continue to calmly assert the government line, that the attacks are not the work of the undead but dissidents in the pay of the United States. Scattered with allusions to traumatic moments in Cuba's recent history, this is a zombie film with real satirical bite. If nothing else, Juan of the Dead is a film you can have some fun with. Unfortunately, it fails in nearly every other respect, but even then there's no getting around the fact that this Cuban horror film has enough redeeming qualities to make

Spidey's Wrestling Outfit Teased In latest TASM Viral

Those that signed up and submitted photos to Webbedmenace.com have received the below poster in the mail.. Now any Spidey fan will know that in his original origin story, he takes part in a wrestling match to use his new found powers to earn some cash. But director Mark Webb previously suggested that this wouldn't be the case in his upcoming reboot. So what's with the poster? Well it certainly doesn't confirm that we will see Spidey in the ring, but it is strange that it's being used as part of the viral campaign if it has absolutely no ties to the movie's plot. What do you guys think? The boxing gym mentioned on the poster, Jereras, has it's own website which you can visit by clicking HERE. Might be worth keeping an eye on for more clues. The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield), an outcast high schooler

MADRID (AP) - A Stradivarius cello housed at the Spanish Royal Palace was broken in an accident, an official said Monday. The instrument could be worth more than $20 million.

A National Heritage official declined to specify what went wrong. She refused to comment on an El Mundo newspaper report that the instrument fell off a table during a photo session. She confirmed it happened about three weeks ago. The official spoke on condition of anonymity in line with department policy.

The damage sustained: a piece that joins the neck of the 17th-century instrument to the body of it broke and fell off the rest of the cello. That piece was not original but rather a replacement installed in the 19th century.

If Manipulative Marketing Keeps Making Money… Why Stop Making Bad Movies?

Posted: 07 May 2012 11:00 AM PDT

I recently sat through over two hours of cheesy one-liners, and I'm left wondering whether the 92% favorable rating given to The Avengers by critics on Rotten Tomatoes means they're all on the studio's payroll or just didn't think critically enough. I'm also beyond confused as to why Marvel didn't hire Jon Favreau, Kenneth Branagh, Joe Johnson or Louis Leterrier – or indeed any director with the genuine talent to tell a story. Joss Whedon has no credibility for this project, and was clearly out of his depth. What a waste – of the studio's money, and of mine as a frequent moviegoer and shareholder. To mention nothing of the minds of Americans, which this movie will help to further dumb down into thinking that hype and CGI make a "good story" despite grossing $200M opening weekend. But unlike other consumer products, smarter moviegoers can't "return" their viewing of this movie for a refund.

Let's begin with the script, which is appallingly low-minded. Even a fast-paced comic-book-hero action movie can and should contain thoughtful, character-revealing dialogue (dialogue meaning more than two sentences per utterance, at least now and then!). It becomes quickly impossible to care at all about any of these once-special characters, each of whom is reduced to sheer flatness.

Nor is there any discernable armature (moral) – just a vague sense that the movie is flogging to death the platitude of how awesome America is because it's full of rag-tag teams of really special, gifted people who are destined to save the world from some nebulous evil. The entire plot is, in fact, disconnected and rambling. On the one hand, the movie makes the sweeping assumption that every moviegoer will already know the backstory of the characters (It opens with Loki arriving and being introduced as Loki. End of introduction.) Why not set up each character (as well as the concept of S.H.I.E.L.D) in a way that ties all the prior movies together into this one? But regardless of the lack of backstory and context-setting, the plot is full of outrageously intelligence-insulting turns that are devoid of both logic and human (or superhero) authenticity. Loki plans to use the Hulk against the group – because in a convenient up-ending of logical continuity, the Hulk's first rage in this movie will be unleashed on anyone and anything around him and be unable to distinguish his friends and enemies. The Black Widow announces that apparently, a blow to the head is sufficient to clear Loki's magical mind-controlling energy zaps. Loki opens a hole in the sky and randomly brings in Transformers-esque aliens to help him in his feebly articulated quest to "free Earth from freedom".

Kudos to critics like A. O. Scott for telling the truth about this movie and Whedon's failed vision for The Avengers. Just because people spend their money on something hotly anticipated doesn't mean it's good. This movie is a crass manipulation of people to cough up money to cover the studio's ill-spent investment, and you can keep doing this because moviegoers are not entitled to demand a refund for the waste of two hours of their life. Nor, can they take you to court over product misrepresentation through trailers that set a tone of quality that the feature film doesn't even begin to reach. Clearly, it's time for that kind of consumer protection in the movie industry, because failing that it seems unlikely that studios will actually take responsibility for the egregious waste of resources that goes into churning out mediocre movies like The Avengers, let alone the outright duplicity of packaging it as something worthwhile and meaningful.
