COMICS: Captain America, Cyclops And Wolverine Burn On AVENGERS VS X-MEN #5 Cover Posted: 07 Mar 2012 10:03 AM PST AVENGERS VS X-MEN #5 Written by MATT FRACTION Pencils by JOHN ROMITA JR Cover by JIM CHEUNG What do you guys think of the cover? While it's well known to comic fans that they don't always reflect the interior of the book, the combination of both this and the above description seems to indicate that both the Avengers and X-Men will end up facing a far bigger threat than each other. The question now of course is who the Phoenix takes as its host. Hope Summers is obviously the most likely option, but who knows? Perhaps we'll see the return of Jean Grey... Sound off with your thoughts in the usual place. |

Fiona Apple: Singer Announces (Absurdly Long) Album Title, Possible June Release Posted: 07 Mar 2012 02:00 PM PST Filed under: News, New Releases Barry Brecheisen, Getty Images The singer has revealed her long-awaited new record, reportedly due out this June, will be called 'The Idler Wheel is wiser than the Driver of the Screw, and Whipping Cords will serve you more than Ropes will ever do' ...and breathe. The absurdly lengthy title barely holds a candle to her sophomore release, 'When the pawn hits the conflicts he thinks like a king/What he knows throws the blows when he goes to the fight/And he'll win the whole thing 'fore he enters the ring/There's no body to batter when your mind is your might/So when you go solo, you hold your own hand/And remember that depth is the greatest of heights/And if you know where you stand, then you know where to land/ And if you fall it won't matter, cause you'll know that you're right,' which is even more absurdly ranked No. 2 by the Guinness World Records for longest album title behind Cumbawaumba's 'The Boy Bands Have Won...' -- but it's still a mega-mouthful (as was this sentence). |

If your thread isn't properly labeled, I will probably delete it. Posted: 07 Mar 2012 09:02 AM PST We've been getting a lot (more than usual) posts with non-descriptive "this" titles. You know what they are, they can range from either "This Movie Looks Awesome" to "Why I Love Movies" to "Not bad for a $5 Haul At Wal-mart." I understand that this is how most other subreddits work, especially r/funny, where the title is the setup for a joke. Maybe it's because I got beat up in high school a lot and now I need to exert what little power I have over others in order to balance out my ego, but this trend will be coming to a stop. There have been posts complaining about it, users at work who can't see the link but still want to participate in the discussion, others confused over the subject even after seeing the image/link, and then my pet peeve: just an unkempt, sloppy subreddit full of mystery links because the original poster wanted more karma. And make no mistake- unless you're setting up a punchline, there are really only two reasons to make a cryptically titled thread:
We could probably construct a good psychological test about which gets upvoted/viewed more, and I'll throw a good chunk of money at the "this" posts. Is it the end of the world if there's a few "this" posts? Of course not. But to allow such behavior would be to encourage it, and thus more and more threads will be titled as such. Anyway, I just wanted to say this in case your post disappears. I'd rather not delete posts, I'd much rather everyone just work to keep this place clean. Hell, if you don't know how to label your post, you can even ask me, I'll give ya a winner. Thanks! _ girafa Post Script: If you link to pirated material, even on youtube, it's being deleted immediately. I'm not anti-piracy, I'm anti-piracy-being-on-reddit. This should be a given, and it's also one of the rules. Post-Post Script: Also, cryptic titles make searching damn near useless. [link] [17 comments] |
