I'm standing in a blacktop lot on the grounds of the National Orange Show Events Center in San Bernardino, California. It's a clear, California winter's day; about 90 degrees. There are agricultural halls on the wide-open property, along with some 1950s-era exhibit buildings. In the pavement, scarred seams trace a large structure that once stood here, the Swing Auditorium, which was knocked down after a plane hit it in 1981.

I'm just about where the stage would have been, the very spot where, on the evening of June 5, 1964, the Rolling Stones, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Brian Jones, Charlie Watts and Bill Wyman, played their first U.S. show just a few days after landing in New York City.

Tragedy struck at a Connecticut grade school on Friday when a gunman opened fire on students and teachers.

As details continue to surface, ABC News is reporting that 27 people were killed, including 18 children. The massacre began around 9:30 AM at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown.

Fans came out in record numbers last night to see The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey at midnight, to the tune of $12.4 million. That tally is the highest midnight screening total ever recorded for the month of December. Warner Bros. debuted this epic in more than 3,100 theaters last night, before opening in 4,045 theaters today.
