Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 2 Confirms Michael Emerson and Mark Valley

Posted: 26 Dec 2012 09:47 AM PST

Michael Emerson and Mark Valley join Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 2 as The Joker and Superman

Batman must battle old friends and foes on two fronts in the epic animated conclusion to Frank Miller's masterpiece in Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 2, the next entry in the popular, ongoing series of DC Universe Animated Original Movies. Produced by Warner Premiere, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Animation, the all-new, PG-13 rated film arrives January 29, 2013 from Warner Home Video as a Blu-ray Combo Pack ($24.98 SRP) and DVD ($19.98 SRP), On Demand and for Digital Download. The Blu-ray Combo Pack will include UltraViolet.

With Gotham City back under his watchful eye, and accompanied by able sidekick Robin, Batman continues to battle crime - but his resurgence awakens a far worse evil at Arkham Asylum: The Joker. In the meantime, Superman has been dispatched by the President to halt Batman's unsanctioned reign by whatever means necessary. Between the Joker's diabolical scheme to drag Batman to the darkest levels of insanity, and the Man of Steel's seemingly invincible physical presence, the Dark Knight must confront adversaries and allies simultaneously while maintaining the peace in Gotham City.

Primetime television stars Michael Emerson (Person of Interest, Lost) and Mark Valley (Human Target, Fringe) join the voice cast as The Joker and Superman, respectively; and popular talk show host Conan O'Brien gives voice to animated talk show host Dave Endochrine. Fanboy favorite Peter Weller (Robocop, Dexter) continues as Bruce Wayne/Batman, and he is once again accompanied by David Selby (The Social Network, Dark Shadows) as Commissioner Gordon, Ariel Winter (Modern Family) as Carrie/Robin, and Michael McKean (This is Spinal Tap) as Dr. Bartholomew Wolper. Also featured in the voice cast is Maria Canals-Barrera (Wizards of Waverly Place) as new Commissioner Yindel, Paget Brewster (Criminal Minds) as Lana Lang, and Radio Hall of Fame member Michael Jackson as Alfred.

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 2 is directed by Jay Oliva (Superman: Man of Steel, Green Lantern: Emerald Knights) from a screenplay by Bob Goodman (Warehouse 13). Sam Register (Young Justice, Teen Titans, Ben 10), Bruce W. Timm (Justice League: Doom), Michael E. Uslan (The Dark Knight Rises) and Benjamin Melniker (The Dark Knight Rises) are executive producers. Here's what Warner Home Video president Mary Ellen Thomas had to say about this animated sequel.

"Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 2 is epic animated filmmaking at its finest Crafted by an impressive team of filmmakers and voice talent alike it's the perfect complement to the initial installment. Just when you thought the story couldn't become any more intense, the Joker and Superman arrive to up the ante - and Michael Emerson 's approach to the Joker is particularly chilling. COMICS EDITORIAL: The Absence of Peter Parker

    Posted: 26 Dec 2012 08:10 AM PST

When it comes to Dan Slott, I can say I know next to nothing about him. I read Lee Spider-Man and McFarlane Spider-Man the most, but I never latched onto Slott's. That's not to say anything about the writer himself, because as I understand it, he's hit some major highlights and had plenty of ho-hum issues with his The Amazing Spider-Man run, and apparently a few that were just downright bad. But I was out of Spider-Man before he got his start, so as far as actual writing goes, I can't stand on the curb and praise or condemn him with a bullhorn. However, Slott's new direction has my full attention. The way I see it is that Spider-Man can finally join the legion of superheroes that have a very special place in the heart of comic books. Peter Parker passed his initiation to A) die and B) pass on the mantle.

How Marvel Can Introduce Dr Strange in THOR: THE DARK WORLD

    Posted: 26 Dec 2012 05:00 AM PST

Few months back a rumor surfaced about introducing Dr Strange in Thor's sequel. While the rumor was neither confirmed nor debunked, the news said that he'll be working alongside Jane foster on a secret mission of his own. So what could be this secret mission? I think this secret mission might be related to the dark magic that Odin used to send Thor back on Midgard during Avengers. So what if in his absence Asgard was attacked by Thanos or Elves to steal Infinity Gauntlet from the same chamber where Eye of Agamotto was kept. If other items along with the Gauntlet were stolen so Dr Strange could be on a secret mission of working with Jane Foster to reach Asgard and get Eye of Agamotto back. One more reason could be that The Other who is part of the movie and is speculated as Ch'thon is always connected to Dr

Anyone seen Flight? If so, what did you think? I really enjoyed it

    Posted: 26 Dec 2012 08:31 AM PST

I was really surprised by this movie. Denzel Washington was fantastic I thought as alcoholic airline pilot Whip Whittman. For me it showed me again, and I really shouldn't be surprised by it, but that great directing and acting can take a story we've all see before, in this case the story of an alcoholic finding redemption, and make it something special.

Also personally, as someone who has a fear of flying I thought that the crash scene was unbelievably well done. Genuinely terrifying to me anyways and I loved that there was no music during the scene. There was enough tension already and I would've just found it to be a distraction.

And for those who haven't seen it I would definitely recommend it. Lastly...Kelly Reilly is gorgeous. http://img1.bdbphotos.com/images/orig/w/7/w7tfobad5htzbod7.jpg

My thoughts on Pulp Fiction... *SPOILERS*

    Posted: 26 Dec 2012 10:31 AM PST

I recently watched Pulp Fiction, and thought I'd say how I felt.

I don't expect this to get karma, so don't judge too harshly.

I loved Pulp Fiction, and I feel it had the best, most natural dialogue

of any movie I've ever seen. I loved the way it wasn't in chronological

order, and even though John Travolta gets shot, the way it ended

gives you the feeling that he is alright, which I really admire. I wasn't

a big fan of the long, empty pauses, and I don't think it's Tarentino's

best (I can't stress how much I love Inglourious Basterds), but it's

definitely a great movie. What do you think of Pulp Fiction/other

    tarentino films?

Having finally seen it, I gotta ask: why does everyone hate "Prometheus"? (SPOILERS WILL ABOUND)

    Posted: 26 Dec 2012 10:12 AM PST

I've heard a lot of hate toward this flick, but nothing really specific except that it raises more questions than it answers which, while it's certainly true, wasn't something I disliked. Overall, I loved it, though. The performances from everyone were damn good, the effects were great, the story was solid...I really didn't see much of anything wrong except that I didn't like the one guy getting turned into a zombie. That was the only bad part, and only because zombies don't really fit in the Alien universe (zombies in & of themselves are bitchin', though).

So...to those of you who loathed it, why? Feel free to sound off if you liked it, too.

'Beatles Stories': Fab-Four Fandom and a Gym Meeting With Paul McCartney

    Posted: 26 Dec 2012 02:00 PM PST

    Seth Swirsky

Songwriter/Author/Singer Seth Swirsky grew up idolizing the Beatles. So over the course of the last several years he set out, camera in hand, to talk to people who had crossed paths with his heroes. From Sir Ben Kingsley to Sir George Martin, and Beach Boy Brian Wilson to astronomer Brian Skiff, Swirsky filmed hundreds of personal recollections from people who knew them well to those who just had an unforgettable encounter.

Like dozens of little films all strung together as one, "Beatles Stories" is a spectacular tapestry that weaves together stories of both the ultra famous and the regular fan, blending them all seamlessly into one glorious, intimate celebration of the Fab Four.

Spinner recently spoke with Swirsky about his new film.

Seth, what was your basic approach to creating this film?

Every time I was doing a story, I had Chris Carter, the host of a popular Beatles radio program, in my mind thinking, "He knows their shoe size," so there had to be something there for him. Similarly, there are people that may know the song "Blackbird," but not know it was on The White Album. Or people that don't know Abbey Road from Revolver. I wanted teenagers' interest to be piqued. So there were three sets of audience I wanted to reach. The guy who knows everything, the person that knows a song or two or is a moderate fan, and the young person that goes, "How did that guy get into the house with a camera?"
