Samuel L. Jackson Talks S.H.I.E.L.D. TV Series; Teases CAPTAIN AMERICA 2 Role

Posted: 18 Dec 2012 09:59 AM PST

Get More: Movie Trailers, Movies Blog Talking to MTV Splash Page, Django Unchained star Samuel L. Jackson has revealed that he is still waiting to hear from Joss Whedon about a possible appearance as 'Nick Fury' in Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D. "I don't know. I keep hearing about it, and I haven't talked to Joss about it. But in my mind, I would tend to think that he would, if nothing else, be like Charlie in 'Charlie's Angels.' At least be the voice!" Well, that's an idea! However, the actor went on to once again confirm that we should expect to next see him with a much larger role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. "It's a full-on role, from the original script that I read. It's a full-on S.H.I.E.L.D. operation in 'Captain America. But I don't know — I'm meeting with the directors this week to see what happens." What do you guys

Oz: The Great and Powerful Poster with Mila Kunis as The Wicked Witch!

Posted: 18 Dec 2012 10:09 AM PST

A new poster for director Sam Raimi's fantasy adventure Oz: The Great and Powerful has arrived, and it features the Wicked Witch of the West (we think). There is some confusion over the witches in this adaptation of the classic children's novel by L. Frank Baum. We know that Michelle Williams is playing Glinda, the Good Witch of the North. Then we have Mila Kunis and Rachel Weisz playing Theodora and Evanora, respectively. But which witch is which? We're inclined to believe that Theodora is the Wicked Witch of the West as pictured in this one sheet, but with the make-up, it's hard to tell if that's Kunis or Weisz, as this transformation comes within the movie itself. Maybe the mystery will be revealed with the next trailer? Or perhaps we'll just have to wait and watch the movie to know who is who. Anyway, enjoy this first real look at the witch's gnarly face. She's a beaut!

Oz: The Great and Powerful comes to theaters March 8th, 2013 and stars James Franco, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams, Abigail Spencer, Zach Braff, Joey King. The film is directed by Sam Raimi.

Lenny Kaye and 'Nuggets': 40 Years of a 'High-Class Oldies Album'

Elektra

Before he would achieve recognition as the guitarist for Patti Smith, Lenny Kaye wrote reviews and articles for Rolling Stone in its early years and was hired as a freelance talent scout by Elektra Records in 1970. During that period, Elektra president Jac Holzman told Kaye about a record he wanted put out consisting of songs that were either hidden on records or minor hit singles. The result? Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the First Psychedelic Era 1965-1968.

"In a way, it seemed to me that these songs were in a twilight zone," Kaye tells Spinner, "between what was then the AM format -- catchy three-minute singles with a good chorus and a hook -- and the more expansive album-oriented music that developed in the '60s when all these artistic parameters were kind of pushed aside, and a certain sense of possibility came into the music where you could think expansively and imaginatively beyond certain time lengths and song lengths and song constructs. Having lived through it as a teenager, I felt very much connected with it in terms of my own artistic growth and what I could see as the possibilities within music."

Eyes Wide Shut...

Posted: 18 Dec 2012 08:50 AM PST

I dismissed this movie when it first came out, in large part due to all the bad reviews it garnered (I remember someone referring to it as "Eyes Wide Shit"). But I just watched it on a whim last night, and holy shit... darkest Christmas movie ever.

I just finished reading an excellent analysis of it and am still shuddering. This has to be Kubrick's most underrated film.

Since most people around here liked "City of God", I seriously recommend watching "My Name Ain't Johhny" (Meu Nome Não é Johnny).

Posted: 18 Dec 2012 08:57 AM PST

Watched it a few years ago and loved it, it's the true story of a middle class guy who became one of the biggest cocaine dealers in Rio in the early 1990s .

Unlike "City of God" the story takes place in the rich part of the city and you can really see the differences in pretty much everything between "poor and rich neighbourhoods"

Spoiler! Who is 'Gossip Girl'?

Posted: 18 Dec 2012 10:58 AM PST

Actress Kristen Bell may have voiced the notorious XOXO "Gossip Girl" sign-off, but in a surprising series finale twist, Dan Humprey aka Lonely Boy, was revealed as the person behind wreaking havoc on the Upper East Side.

Dan, played by Penn Badgley, explained his reason behind starting the blog, saying, "The Upper East Side was like something from Fitzgerald or Thackeray -- teenagers acting like adults, adults acting like teenagers, guarding secrets, spreading gossip all with the trappings of truly opulent wealth. And membership into this community was so elite you couldn't even buy your way in."

"Jack Reacher" star Tom Cruise stopped by "The Late Show with David Letterman" on Monday night. Dave kept the mood light, asking Tom if he had ever talked to his son Connor, 17, about the birds and the bees.

Keeping the teen's privacy in mind, Cruise dodged the question with "[Connor's] like, 'Please don't talk about me… with certain things, his friends will go, 'What was that talk like, what were the details?'"

Samuel L. Jackson And Anne Hathaway Have A Sad Off Over DJANGO UNCHAINED And LES MIS

Posted: 18 Dec 2012 09:21 AM PST

The guys over at Funny Or Die enlisted Samuel L. Jackson and Anne Hathaway for their latest video as the comic book movie veterans argue over which of their most recent releases (Django Unchained and Les Miserables) is the bleakest this holiday season. Admittedly, only the former is a comic book movie - DC are releasing the first instalment of an adaptation of Quentin Tarantino's screenplay this week - but it's pretty darn hilarious nonetheless. Be warned: the video contains a lot of bad language and so is most definitely NOT SUITABLE FOR WORK Check it out! The Sad Off with Samuel L. Jackson and Anne Hathaway from Samuel L Jackson

FEATURE: The Top 15 Comic Book Moments of 2012

15. Valiant Relaunch This has been a year of rejuvenation for comic companies and we loved seeing titles like X-O Manowar, Shadowman, and Bloodshot get a second wind! 14. Grant Morrison Leaves Comics It came as a shock when comic book legend Grant Morrison announced he was leaving DC comics and straying away from superhero comics for the foreseeable future. We hope he'll return to the industry soon, but until then we're enjoying his non-super adventures just the same. 13. Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 12. Before Watchmen Love it or hate it for whatever reason, Before Watchmen was definitely a huge event for 2012. It's a bummer that the series isn't constructed or even approved by Moore, but with a book as amazing as Watchmen it is exciting to get to see the characters in their own stories. 11. Arrow TV Show This series caught us really off guard this year. All fears of a whiny

Scott Snyder Shares His Thoughts On The MAN OF STEEL Trailer And This Year's CBM's

In a recent interview with IGN Comics, Scott Snyder (who will next year team up with artist Jim Lee (Justice League) on a new Superman comic book series entitled Man of Steel) has shared his thoughts on the Man of Steel trailer which blew us all away when it was released last week. As you can see from his comments below, he enjoyed The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises just as much as the rest of us, but his take on Superman will be far more similar to both the latter movie AND Zack Snyder's upcoming grounded take on the iconic DC character. Be sure to click on the link at the bottom of the page to read the interview in full and sound off with your thoughts in the usual place! "I'm really excited for it.
