Actor Charles Durning Dead at 89

Posted: 25 Dec 2012 11:27 AM PST

Veteran performer Charles Durning, who starred in many film and TV shows, including "The Sting," "Tootsie" and the TV drama "Rescue Me," died Monday in his New York City home. He was 89 years old.

Durning's longtime agent and friend Judith Moss told AP that he died on Christmas Eve of natural causes.

The character actor is perhaps best known for his Oscar-nominated role as a comically corrupt governor in 1982's "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas." He was nominated again for Best Supporting Actor a Nazi colonel in the Mel Brooks film "To Be or Not to Be."

According to The New York Times, Durning was born in 1923 to a large family, the ninth of 10 children. His father, a World War I vet, died when Durning was just 12 years old, and five of his sisters died in childhood of smallpox or scarlet fever.

Durning served in World War II and received a Silver Star for valor and three Purple Hearts. He got his big break in acting in 1962, joining Joseph Papp's New York Shakespeare Festival and Public Theater, which lead to his breakout performance in "The Sting" in 1973.

Durning and his first wife had three children before divorcing in 1972. In 1974, he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Ann Amelio.

He is survived by his children, Michele, Douglas and Jeannine. The family plans a private family service and burial at Arlington National Cemetery.

So I saw The Dark Knight Rises last night in Blu-ray; am I the only one that got distracted with the 16:9 and 1.39:1 switches?

Posted: 25 Dec 2012 09:26 AM PST

Sorry if this is the wrong subreddit. I saw The Dark Knight Rises last night and I kept on getting distracted by the aspect ratio changes between 16:9 (for the IMAX scenes) and 2.39:1 (for all the "Normal" scenes).

I know there is a limitation in the fact that the actual film originally had different aspect ratios, but I think they should have cropped the non-IMAX film to 16:9.

Who Will Run for President in 2016?

Posted: 24 Dec 2012 10:38 AM PST

"Extra" talked with some political experts about the next presidential race, including President Obama's advisor David Axelrod and HuffPost Live host Abby Huntsman.

Huntsman believes New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie stands a good chance. "Chris Christie is a standout because he's a confident guy. He know what he wants to do and he's not afraid to stand up to what's not right."

Axlerod feels Newark Mayor Corey Booker could further his political career. "I think he will most likely run for Senate. In the next few years, that will be one to watch."

Find out from the experts if there will be another Obama or Bush in the White House!

RIP Charles Durning, a complete badass who landed in the first wave at Omaha Beach, was the lone survivor of a machine gun ambush, and once bludgeoned a Nazi soldier to death while being stabbed with a bayonet.

Reddit, please help me find this movie.

Posted: 25 Dec 2012 07:30 AM PST

I hope the good people of reddit can help me. Been looking for this movie for a while.

I saw the trailer for it a few years ago on itunes. When I saw the trailer I said to myself "I must watch it when it comes out". Forgot about it for a while...perhaps a little too long. Forgot the name... :(. I had even forgot about the text doc with the name of it when I formatted.

Here is what I remember from the trailer; It looked like a south american movie. Had a guy, perhaps drug lord or big boss or something. A guy comes to work for him?? and said guy meets and falls in love with drug lords lady friend. They escape together. Guy was ripped and girl was sexy. looked like it had lots of action with load of great looking locations.

I tried searching for Spanish movies and foreign movies in many places. to no avail.

TL;DR girl runs away with guy, looked like south american movie. maybe 2 or 3 years old ( the movie, not the girl)

Thank you and Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays/ Happy december.

EDIT : Call the search off lads, it has been found , here is a link to the trailer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0f8Zp0bOSs . Thank you everyone who helped , much love
