So I spent the weekend watching all of The Muppet movies. Here are my reviews.

Posted: 06 Mar 2011 07:49 AM PST

The Muppet Movie: This is a fantastic film even if you aren't big into Jim Henson or the Muppets. It's just funny, great cameos, I especially loved Steve Martin basically doing his Jerk role before that film came out. Also The Rainbow Connection is one of my favorite songs, but other tunes like Movin' Right Along are all pretty catchy. Overall 10/10

The Great Muppet Caper: I thought this film was lacking the emotional connection of the first film. It was focused more on humor. It doesn't make it bad, but not quite as engaging. I did find the humor very good though, especially the Jon Cleese scene. I will say that I didn't like the whole re-vamp of the Miss Piggy and Kermit love story. It felt forced, predictable and unnecessary. 7.5/10

Muppet Take Manhattan. I quite liked this film. The humor was there as well as the sentimental elements. The songs felt catchier this time. Also Miss Piggy becoming a jealous lover was quite funny. Gonzo wasn't as big a player but I felt like Rizzo was finally coming to form in this film. Fozzie Bear's parts were quite funny too. 8.5/10

Muppet Christmas Carol: I've watched this one pretty much every Christmas. I liked how it interpreted the story. Michael Caine is always great to watch, and manages to give a great performance with all these muppets. This was the first film done without Henson playing Kermit, and it does show to an extent. Kermit from here on out becomes less of a main character, and Gonzo becoming more central. This is both good and bad. The good is other characters get to be explored, but the bad is Henson's sentimental touch on the character is lost. I do have to say there are some amazing effects in this particularly the Ghost of Christmas Past, she has this Dark Crystal design to her and has a great presence in the film. 8/10

Muppet Treasure Island: Once again the peripheral muppet characters get more screen time. I like this film a good bit though because it is quite funny and has a bit of a dark side to it. This type of humor seems out of place just watching the films, but knowing Jim Henson Production's history it makes sense. I also really liked Tim Curry as Long John Silver. Some of the Muppet staples did seem a bit out of character. For instance why is Fozzy Bear pretty much insane. I thought these bits were funny, but did seem out of place. Also the songs weren't as great as other films. 7.5/10

Muppets From Space: I liked this Gonzo centric films, but it did break from the formula of previous films. This one isn't a musical at all. Also as mentioned previously older more traditional Muppet characters take a back seat. I did like Jeffery Tambor in this movie a great deal and his bear partner. This film continues having more adult references, but doesn't quite feel as out of place as Treasure Island. 8/10

Kermit's Swamp Years: This movie returns to the musical format. But everything about this movie feels off. Even Kermit doesn't quite look like Kermit. It has a couple of decent songs, but nothing is really all that great. Also having it lack most of the familiar characters make it feel to distant from the source material. 4/10

Muppet Wizard of Oz: Everything about this movie is just wrong and off. Most of the songs in Muppets films have been more traditional show tunes, but this one chooses to be full on pop music for a large number of the songs. This is possibly because of the casting, but it to me a lot of the film felt like it was trying to appeal to an "urban market". Even being the most recent Muppet film it actually feels so much more dated than any of the other films. It also feels kind of like a Shrek wannabe in some respects. I mean this in that it makes blatant references to adult films that kids would never get. Other Muppet films had some adult humor, but wasn't quite this trite. 3/10.

Well there you go. All in all I am looking forward to the new Muppet film coming out this year.

As the Strokes gear up for the release of their fourth studio album, 'Angles,' the New York City-based band played in the heart of their hometown on Saturday night (March 5), gracing the 'Saturday Night Live' stage.

Introduced by host Miley Cyrus, the five guys opened up their set with 'Under Cover of Darkness,' a song for which they premiered a video earlier last week. Lead singer Julian Casablancas, dressed in a black leather jacket, took center stage as he rocked through his vocals, while Nick Valensi, Albert Hammond, Jr., Nikolai Fraiture and Fabrizio Moretti jammed out behind him.

The band also showcased a new tune off their forthcoming effort, playing 'Life Is Simple In The Moonlight' on the sketch comedy show. The song is the closing track on 'Angles,' set for release on March 21. During the set, Casablancas opted to throw on a pair of shades as he commanded the stage.

Gary Oldman Talks The Dark Knight Rises

Gary Oldman talks The Dark Knight Rises

Any little nugget of information regarding The Dark Knight Rises seems to push us closer to this final sequel's July 20th release date. Gary Oldman will reprise his role as Jim Gordon, continuing on one of the more popular story threads from previous movies.

As many know, Gary Oldman is an astute and sometimes painfully truthful actor when it comes to projects he is involved with, and praise does not come easily for the perfectionist, who has been known to be quite hard on himself and his past performances. So it shouldn't be taken lightly when he sincerely states that Christopher Nolan has topped himself when it comes to the story for The Dark Knight Rises.

"I have not read the script. But I have talked to Christopher Nolan about the story. It's fantastic. You can't top The Dark Knight, and I think he may have."

When asked if he could tell people when he starts shooting, he very firmly said, "No." The actor then went onto talk about his character in director Tomas Alfredson's Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.

"It is probably the greatest role I have ever played. Great cast. John Hurt. Tom Hardy. Colin Firth. Ciar&#225n Hinds. Toby Jones. And its directed by Tomas Alfredson. And I think it will be a goodie."

The Dark Knight Rises comes to theaters July 20th, 2012 and stars Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Marion Cotillard, Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The film is directed by Christopher Nolan.
