Marvel Studios Developing The Inhumans Big Screen Adaptation?

Posted: 07 Mar 2011 09:25 AM PST

According to It's On The Grid (via Badassdigest) Marvel Studios is developing The Inhumans movie adaptation: The film would be a 'team' story, and it sounds like some of the details may be changed for the movie version. Aliens who were put on Earth as sleeper cell aliens to eventually call back their race to take over the planet. Ultimately, the group of aliens fully assimilates and don't want to cause war. The Inhumans are a race of superbeings who live on the dark side of the Moon; they were created by the alien Kree millions of years ago in experiments on primitive humans. I honestly don't know what to think of this. If they are indeed going with Skrulls, and the whole cosmic approach, then I guess this should fit perfectly in the Marvel movie universe. But then again, there are far more better stories and characters that deserve a movie adaptation. For now

Simon Pegg Talks Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol

Simon Pegg Talks Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol

While out doing the press rounds for his upcoming sci-fi road trip comedy Paul, popular British comedian and actor Simon Pegg offered his thoughts on the upcoming reboot Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol.

He wants to make it very clear that this is not a sequel, and he then compared it to what Sony is currently doing with The Amazing Spider-Man. Here are his thoughts.

"It's a rebirth for the series. In the same way with what they've done with The Amazing Spider-Man. I feel like it's a reinvigoration of this particular story. It was a series when it was on TV, so it's a story that can have so many iterations. There are so many adventures to get into with this team of impossible mission fighters. When a film goes into number four you're like, 'Isn't this just like flogging a dead horse now?' But what they've done is they've brought in a director who's never done live action before but who's had a 100 percent hit rate for his previous movies: Ratatouille, The Incredibles, and The Iron Giant are all just five star films. Brad Bird has just brought that sensibility to this film. And the fact that's it's Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, it's not Mission: Impossible 4."

Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol comes to theaters December 16th, 2011 and stars Tom Cruise, Ving Rhames, Jeremy Renner, Josh Holloway, Paula Patton, Simon Pegg, Vladimir Mashkov, Michael Nyqvist. The film is directed by Brad Bird.

Beth Ditto Speaks Out About Solo EP, Lady Gaga and Planned Parenthood

Deconstruction Records

For Beth Ditto, the perfect way to describe the recording sessions of her upcoming self-titled EP and first solo release would be "relaxed." As the Gossip frontwoman tells Spinner, "I work really well under pressure but I really hate doing things on a timeframe. It's like going to college from the sixth grade: don't do it unless you're Doogie Howser."

The EP, which is due out March 29, features Ditto reteaming with electro duo Simian Mobile Disco for four club-ready tracks. The always-outspoken singer recently chatted with Spinner about the project, the Madonna-inspired video for 'I Wrote the Book' and her thoughts on the controversy surrounding the defunding of Planned Parenthood.

Why did you decide to do this now at this stage in your career?

Probably because I don't really consider what I do as a career. I don't really think things through like that -- I just wanted to do it. I just turned 30 and the reason it felt really good to put all that under my belt, put out a little solo thing, because Gossip have been [together] since I was 18, so 12 years now. It felt really good to do something with other people. I always compare it to having a baby, like having a love affair with someone else just to see what the baby is going to look like. It was really fulfilling.

Gary Clark Jr. Brings Guitar Heroics to SXSW -- Top 100 Acts at SXSW 2011

Posted: 07 Mar 2011 01:30 PM PST

WBR

Gary Clark Jr. is no run-of-the-mill indie rocker. The 27-year-old guitar prodigy and Austin native is the next great hope for bringing raw blues to a mainstream audience, starting at SXSW. Clark is a rarity in the blues community -- a musician who respects the great standards while remaining open to other sounds, freely mixing in rock, jazz and pop, crossing genres like a true millennial.
What has earned Clark steadfast respect from blues hardliners, though, is his serious fretwork. Although he's self-taught, he was playing the Austin club circuit by his early teens, quickly scoring a recurring slot at the legendary nightspot Antone's. His age served as a selling point rather than a drawback, and by his mid-teens, he was sharing the stage with such greats as Jimmie Vaughan.

Eventually, Clark was tapped by none other than Eric Clapton to play the 2010 Crossroads Guitar Festival, a career-making gig that helped him score a major-label deal with Warner. With pre-production for his debut album underway, Clark chatted with Spinner about his eclectic tastes and ongoing growth as a musician.

What are some of your favorite classic horror flicks?

Posted: 07 Mar 2011 08:58 AM PST

My dd has been whining now that she is a teenager that I let her watch some good old fashioned slasher movies. I don't have a problem with letting her watch a horror flick, I just don't really love the slashfests. Please give me some ideas for a good movie that is all about the scare and not the gore! TIA

What are some films that you love but may never watch again?

Posted: 07 Mar 2011 09:35 AM PST

I saw this thread and realized I like quite a few emotionally devastating and/or powerful films that I probably wouldn't watch anytime soon, given how emotionally drained I was the first time around. I hope I'm not the only person like this.
