While those roles come once in a lifetime, the actor risks getting pigeonholed as that character f... Read More > |
EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Captain America - The First Director Posted: 26 Mar 2011 10:38 AM PDT Interview conducted by and copyright Edward Gross Pyun's version of Captain America had its roots at Cannon Films and eventually followed co-owner of that company, Menahem Golan, to 21st Century Films. The license for the character soon to lapse unless the film went into production, the greenlight was given and the film was rushed through production -- much in the same way that Oley Sassone's Fantastic Four was under producer Roger Corman several years later. RETROVISION: What was the genesis of your version of Captain America? ALBERT PYUN: Believe Captain America had been bouncing around the halls of Cannon the entire time I was there (1985-1988). Heard a lot about it and being a big CA fan as a kid, I was intrigued like any other comic book geek to know what was happening with it. i managed to get a copy of Stephen Tolkien's script which I heard was great...and it was. Primal Scream Put 'Screamadelica' on Shuffle, Pay Tribute to Charlie Sheen Posted: 26 Mar 2011 02:00 PM PDT Filed under: Concerts and Tours, News PA Photos It was the penultimate night of a 10-date nostalgia trip around the UK featuring original tour DJs and Screamadelica co-creators Andrew Weatherall and Alex 'The Orb' Patterson. Much has changed in the intervening years with only singer Bobby Gillespie, guitarist/knob-twiddler Andrew Innes and keyboard player Martin Duffy present from the line-up responsible for the epoch-defining opus. Ticket prices had expanded dramatically, as had the waistlines of many attendees who looked like they'd have been more at home with their pot bellies and pints than the poppers, pills and prodigious pupils of yesteryear. |

Young Empires Showcase Rock Star Moves at Juno Fest Posted: 26 Mar 2011 01:15 PM PDT Filed under: Concerts and Tours, News Even though the Junos are in town this weekend, Juno Fest was just a minor sideshow to the usual meat market adventures at Toronto's the Drake Hotel, where the beautiful people go on weekends to exchange smoldering glances. Fortunately, up-and-coming electro-rock trio Young Empires' blend of house-y beats, new wave-meets-African-highlife guitars and singer Matthew Vlahovich's stylized yelp was close enough to what the Drake's DJs would usually play that they got away with it. It also helped that the band could have stepped off the stage and blended into the crowd; from Vlahovich's porkpie hat to guitarist Robert Aaron Ellingson's V-neck T-shirt, and all three's very carefully curated haircuts and facial hair, they probably spent as much time getting ready to go out as the audience did.
