Posted: 19 Mar 2011 11:03 AM PDT Anyone who's followed the stories I've posted at CBM can no doubt tell that I am and have been a Superman fan for nearly my entire life, having grown up on reruns of the George Reeves television series, relished the Filmation cartoons of the '60s, skipped Super Friends (sorry, my love for the Man of Steel can only go SO far), was transformed by Christopher Reeves' debut in Superman: The Movie, and it's gone on from there with The Adventures of Superboy, Lois & Clark, Superman: The Animated Series, Smallville and, now, anticipation for Zack Snyder and Henry Cavill's take. I should point out that the basic morality that was instilled in me as a kid came from my mom, just so that that point is made. But that being said, there is something about the core of Superman that has always touched me and inspired me to do what's right. Of |

The Wolverine Not Rushing to Find a Director Posted: 19 Mar 2011 10:40 AM PDT There are varying reports swirling around this morning that 20th Century Fox is in no hurry to attach another director to its high profile Marvel Studios one-off The Wolverine. As you may know, original director Darren Aronofsky dropped out of the project, concerned that the extended shoot in Japan would keep him away from his son. Though 20th Century Fox released a statement saying they planned to "regroup and move forward aggressively", a source close to the lingering project is saying otherwise. Apparently, there is no short list of directors being considered at this point in time, and the recent natural disaster in Japan, where much of this story takes place, is causing many unforeseen roadblocks that could stall The Wolverine even further. Here is what the insider had to say. "I think we're going to let it air out a bit before we approach another director. The one good thing, after losing Darren and what's going on in Japan, is that we have a great script and the star attached and ready to go." Director David Slade was next in line to direct The Wolverine, but it was announced on Tuesday that he was taking over directorial reigns on the long-planned Untitled Daredevil Reboot. A day late and a dollar short is what that amounts to. If 20th Century Fox does manage to find a worthy successor to Darren Aronofsky, this one-off could still go into production as early as this summer. Who do you want to see direct The Wolverine? Most of the eligible candidates are busy at the moment. Coming off of Super, would James Gunn be capable of taking such a huge project on? The Coen Brothers are currently looking for their next project, and they've never done a superhero movie. Winter's Bone director Debra Granik doesn't have anything lined up at the moment. Maybe The Wolverine needs a strong woman's touch? Or maybe they should just bring back original X-Men Origins: Wolverine director Gavin Hood? I know you love that idea. The Wolverine comes to theaters in 2012 and stars Hugh Jackman. The film is directed by Darren Aronofsky. |
Taylor Kitsch Circling Savages Posted: 19 Mar 2011 10:20 AM PDT Taylor Kitsch is in contention to play one of the two leads in Oliver Stone's Savages. We reported yesterday that Aaron Johnson is also in talks for a lead role in Savages. The story centers on two young pot growers who run their business out of their Laguna Beach home. The plot thickens when a Mexican drug cartel kidnaps their best friend O and forces the duo to work for the cartel. Salma Hayek is also in discussions to play the head of the cartel. We reported in February that Jennifer Lawrence was set to play O, although she recently had to drop out of the project due to her commitment to The Hunger Games. Olivia Wilde is mentioned as a possible replacement for the O role. Oliver Stone will direct from a script by Shane Salerno and Don Winslow, who wrote the novel this project is based on. No production schedule was revealed yet. Savages comes to theaters in 2012 and stars Jennifer Lawrence. The film is directed by Oliver Stone. |

Who can recommend me a good (comedy) film to watch tonight? Posted: 19 Mar 2011 10:22 AM PDT I'm hoping for something (not too slapstick) that pulls me in a bit as well as makes me laugh. I have a rubbish memory when it comes to remembering interesting movies so I rely on far more informed sources such as yourself! I'm sure there is a subreddit somewhere out there for queries of this nature but at a glance I couldn't find it. Feel free to refer me. (This also applies for any good alternative sites that help with movie selection.) [link] [comment] |
IAE concerned with the number of new actors for The Dark Knight Rises? Posted: 19 Mar 2011 09:29 AM PDT Between Anne Hathaway (Catwoman), Tom Hardy (Bane), and Joseph Gordon-Levitt there seem to be a bunch of new, important characters. I know that The Dark Knight had 2 main villians but it seems to me that the 3rd movie has to connect somewhat with the events of the last film, plus introduce all the new characters. The joker was ok as a new character because he intentionally didn't have a back story and he "created" two face, but I don't think this would work again for both Bane and Catwoman. I know I am supposed to trust that Nolan will make it work, but it is still somewhat worrying that the movie already seems to be bloated. [link] [5 comments] |

Night Horse Bring Out the Headbangers at SXSW Posted: 19 Mar 2011 01:00 PM PDT Filed under: Concerts and Tours, News myspace.com/nighthorsemusic There's no stage in the tiny bar, which meant the crowd was practically on top of the band to start with. Singer Sam James Velde ordered everyone to come even closer. "I'm going to hit the f--- out of you," he acknowledged when someone right up front wondered aloud about the wisdom of standing in such close proximity to the Los Angeles stoner-rock band, steeped in the influence of Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. "But it's going to feel good." |
Bright Eyes Showcase New Material at SXSW AOL Pop-Up Show Posted: 19 Mar 2011 12:30 PM PDT Filed under: Concerts and Tours, News Joseph Llanes for AOL "This is fun," ring leader Conor Oberst told the audience, many of whom waited in line for hours on the street, vying for a coveted spot inside. "You guys ever been to the haunted mansion at Disney Land?" he asked, eerily summing up the chandelier-adorned setting. "Very soon these walls will start stretching -- into the stratosphere." And, metaphorically, perhaps they did. Backed by a six-piece multi-instrumental band -- aka Bright Eyes -- Oberst showcased new material from the group's brand new album, 'The People's Key.' That much was expected -- but he also reached into Bright Eyes' revered canon for such catalog classics as 'Bowl of Oranges' and 'Poison Oak.' |

Toro y Moi Transcends Genres With 'Underneath the Pine' at SXSW Posted: 19 Mar 2011 12:00 PM PDT Filed under: News The South by Southwest music festival was well under way Wednesday afternoon (March 16) as Forcefield PR and Terrorbird Media threw a rocking party at Red 7, including a buzz worthy performance by Toro y Moi. Following his high energy show, Chazwick Bundick took the time to push his way out of a crowd of adoring fans with Spinner by his side to dish about his recent album, 'Underneath the Pine,' his plans for the future and his multicultural influences. Listen to Toro y Moi's 'Still Sound' After coming off stage, everyone wanted their chance at a laudatory handshake with Chaz and he humbly obliged each one. Soft-spoken and gracious, he filled his water canteen and guided us out to a relatively quiet spot on the street around the corner from Red 7 where he felt a one-to-one would be most comfortable, all the while he explained that Toro y Moi is a totally random name. "It doesn't really mean anything," he revealed. Curbside, we were approached by a bevy of more adoring fans stoked for the beginning of SXSW, spotting one of this year's most talked about artists. The fatigue in Chaz's face began to set in -- he posed for a few more pictures before politely excusing himself and retreating back into our interview. |
