Sarah Millender for AOL

"We can make it through the day if we make it through the night" -- the words of Portugal. the Man could definitely sum up the experience of SXSW.

The conference was a flurry of sights and sounds Wednesday when Spinner landed at the Do 512 Lounge for an up close and personal performance from this garish group.

They wailed on some new tunes from their upcoming album due out in May and finished off strong with their hit 'People Say' as the crowd crooned along. Their psychedelic pop rock sound omnipresent with each new ditty as their music enveloped the tiny room -- the raucous riffs and virtuous keys seemingly moving people close to tears.

Several lessons were learned Wednesday night at the 2011 mtvU Woodies Awards: Matt and Kim occasionally refuse to show up naked, it's possible to out-Kanye Kanye and Foo Fighters can still rile up an audience after a four-year hiatus.

This year's college music festivities were held in Austin to coincide with SXSW, and the transition from New York proved to be an educational one.

Actor and comedian Donald Glover, who plays a student himself on NBC's 'Community,' served as the inaugural host of the telecast and was ready to drop some knowledge. "Stop asking your black friends to freestyle," he told the crowd during his opening monologue at Austin Music Hall.

The Wolverine Loses Darren Aronofsky

Posted: 17 Mar 2011 10:27 AM PDT

The Wolverine loses director Darren Aronofsky

Darren Aronofsky has pulled out of the 20th Century Fox sequel The Wolverine. It is believed that the director's recent divorce from actress Rachel Weisz and the custody of his son were main reasons he stepped away from the project. Here's a statement Darren Aronofsky issued.

"As I talked more about the film with my collaborators at Fox, it became clear that the production of The Wolverine would keep me out of the country for almost a year. I was not comfortable being away from my family for that length of time. I am sad that I won't be able to see the project through, as it is a terrific script and I was very much looking forward to working with my friend, Hugh Jackman, again."

Here's the statement that 20th Century Fox issued after the director's decision to leave the project.

"While we are of course disappointed that Darren can't do The Wolverine, we also understand and respect his reasons. Having done both The Wrestler and Black Swan with Darren, we know he is an extraordinary talent and we look forward to working with him on other projects in the future. Hugh Jackman and Fox both remain fully committed to making The Wolverine. We will regroup and move forward aggressively."

The Wolverine was supposed to start production in April. Now those plans will likely have to be pushed.

The Wolverine comes to theaters in 2012 and stars Hugh Jackman. The film is directed by Darren Aronofsky.
