3 Things to Know about 'Smash'

Posted: 07 Feb 2012 11:04 AM PST

Last night, NBC debuted their highly anticipated TV series, "Smash," starring Katharine McPhee, Megan Hilty, Debra Messing, Academy Award winner Anjelica Huston, Christian Borle and Brian d'Arcy James.

In case you missed it, here are a few tidbits that will bring you up to speed: 1. "American Idol" alum Katharine McPhee rose to fame on the fifth season of the singing competition in 2006, when she finished as the runner-up to Taylor Hicks. Her self-titled album's first single, "Over It," was certified gold in 2008. The singer also booked TV guest-star spots and film roles, including "The House Bunny," all while releasing new albums. "Smash" is McPhee's first recurring role in a TV series. 2. Megan Hilty may seem new to NBC's audience, but she's definitely not new to performing. The beautiful blonde is a Broadway vet -- she made her debut as Glinda in the popular musical "Wicked" in 2005. She also starred in the revamped musical version of "9 to 5," in which she played the role of Doralee Rhodes, originally portrayed by Dolly Parton. Hilty graduated from the esteemed Carnegie Mellon School of Drama and hails from Washington State. Like Katharine McPhee, this marks her first recurring lead in a TV series. 3. "Smash" centers on the struggles of Broadway actors and production staff living in New York City. Actress Anjelica Huston plays a hard-nosed producer set on creating a hit Broadway musical about Marilyn Monroe. Katharine McPhee and Megan Hilty's characters work relentlessly, hoping to land the coveted starring role, while Messing plays a songwriter with baby adoption issues. Be sure to check out "Smash," next Monday, February 13 at 10 PM on NBC.

Zac Efron on Demi Moore: 'I Just Wish Her Well'

Posted: 07 Feb 2012 11:02 AM PST

"Extra" correspondent Renee Bargh met with heartthrob Zac Efron, who addressed recent headlines claiming Demi Moore was pursuing him romantically. "I don't know, me and Rumer have been friends for a long time. I know Demi is going through some personal stuff right now. I just wish her well. I hope she's doing okay."

zac-efron.jpg

Efron, 24, is co-starring in a new animated film "Dr. Seuss' The Lorax" with Taylor Swift.

Efron's character, Ted, desperately wants to impress Audrey, played by Swift, and Zac admits it's not the first time he's gone out of his way for a girl. "I was a musical theatre geek, so whenever we wanted to impress girls, we'd do a three-man jazz quartet. Yeah, we did some pretty fun stuff."

The singer/actor joked about his plans for Valentine's Day, saying, "I might just sit at home... and cry." When Bargh told him Taylor said the same thing, he replied, "She's alone too? We'll team up then!"

He quickly added, "Wait a sec, uh, no, we're really good friends. She's trying to teach me how to play the guitar."

So as Dr. Seuss would say, put your feet in your shoes, in the direction you choose... to watch "The Lorax" -- opening in theaters March 2.

The Walking Dead Season 2 Spoiler Hints at a Major Character Death!

Posted: 07 Feb 2012 09:28 AM PST

The Walking Dead Season 2 spoilers revealed

We are just days away from the return of The Walking Dead, which starts airing new episodes for the second half of Season 2 Sunday, February 12 at 9 PM ET on AMC.

Those looking for news beyond this new episode will enjoy this. An unconfirmed spoiler has been revealed that provides some interesting insight into the rest of Season 2.

*** Stop reading right now if you don't want to be spoiled. If you can't help yourself, read on. ***

"Shane does not make it through the season, essentially Lori puts into his head that if Rick wasn't around they would still be together. This makes Shane change AGAIN, (he had finally made peace and Lori [frick]ed him up again). Anyway he decides to kill Rick and lures him into the forest chasing after someone you will meet in Nebraska. Of course Rick isn't stupid he realizes nothing is adding up and tries to give Shane a chance to abandon his plans. Believe it or not Rick loves Shane like a brother, anyway he finally calls Shane on it and Shane basically tells him how Carl and Lori will get over his death. Shane has a gun pointed at Ricks face and seconds away from shooting, when Rick starts to negotiate his way out of it, all along pulling a knife out. Long story short he lunges at Shane and buries the knife in his chest."

If this report is true, it seems to lend credibility to the suggestion that Jon Bernthal may leave The Walking Dead to star in L.A. Noir, the TNT pilot from ousted The Walking Dead creator Frank Darabont. Of course, L.A. Noir hasn't started shooting yet, and there is no guarantee that TNT will pick up the pilot to series.

All we do know for certain is that The Walking Dead returns with Episode 2.08: Nebraska Sunday, February 12 at 9 PM ET. And hey, according to the timeline of the comic book, Shane died a long time ago. It makes sense. What do you think?

The Walking Dead episode 2.8, "Nebraska" airs on AMC February 12th, 2012. The episode stars Andrew Lincoln, Jon Bernthal, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, Jeffrey DeMunn, Steven Yeun, Chandler Riggs, Norman Reedus and is directed by Clark Johnson.

Juno Awards 2012: Drake, Deadmau5, Feist Dominate Nominations

Posted: 07 Feb 2012 01:05 PM PST

Deadmau5Josh Ostroff, AOL

Another year, another Juno nominees list that reads like the actual year in music -- and not just Canadian music -- with nominations going to North America's biggest stars, from Drake and DeadMau5 to Justin Bieber and Michael Buble to Feist and F---ed Up. (And, yes, to Nickelback and somehow Avril, too).

The latter are a reminder of how ridiculous the Juno Awards used to be. They were often called the Canadian Grammys -- except there was rarely any crossover between the nominees lists -- and the Junos inability to recognize the surging early-2000s indie scene inspired the creation of the Polaris Prize to award the actual best Canadian album. Sales was all that mattered for the big awards, rather than quality.

Of course, sales still matter -- the top awards remain restricted to artists who pass certain sales quotas -- but the difference is that, for the most part, the best Canadians are also major sellers. As well, the alternative categories now read like a Polaris shortlist -- not to mention reading like many New York music critics' year-end lists.

Gisele Bundchen Rant Causes Backlash

Posted: 07 Feb 2012 10:12 AM PST

Gisele Bundchen's F-rated tirade has evoked a front-page backlash after she dissed Tom Brady's Patriot teammates, saying, "My husband can't f***ing throw and catch the ball at the same time. I can't believe they dropped the ball so many times."

gisele-tom.jpg

Tom's teammates have kept quiet after learning of her criticism, although Patriots spokesman Stacey James just shook his head when asked to comment. The wife of a Patriots player told the Chicago Sun-Times, "Gisele has very few friends among the wives. Of course, many are jealous of her looks and all that, but she doesn't make it easy to like her, since she obviously feels so superior to all of us."

Brady was reportedly upset after hearing about his wife's outburst, realizing the awkward situation he could potentially face with his teammates.

Gisele Bundchen Tops Extra List of Richest Models

Mrs. Brady's seething remarks have also angered Patriot fans, with one commenter on Boston.com writing, "Not cool to curse at people and even WORSE to criticize your husband's teammates in public."

Another fan blamed the team's loss on Bundchen: "Maybe she is the reason he hasn't won a Super Bowl since hooking up with her!"

After Sunday's Super Bowl game, the supermodel's frustration seemed to subside after seeing her husband by the locker rooms, as Bundchen threw her arms around him and whispered words of encouragement.

The 31-year-old's unfiltered remarks have sparked outrage in the past -- which included slamming expectant mothers, calling them "garbage disposals" for gaining so much weight during pregnancy.
