First TV Spot For THE RAVEN Arrives Posted: 25 Feb 2012 09:58 AM PST In this gritty thriller, Edgar Allan Poe (John Cusack) joins forces with a young Baltimore detective (Luke Evans) to hunt down a mad serial killer who's using Poe's own works as the basis in a string of brutal murders. Directed by James McTeigue, the film also stars Alice Eve, Brendan Gleeson and Oliver Jackson-Cohen. When a mother and daughter are found brutally murdered in 19th century Baltimore, Detective Emmett Fields makes a startling discovery: the crime resembles a fictional murder described in gory detail in the local newspaper—part of a collection of stories penned by struggling writer and social pariah Edgar Allan Poe. But even as Poe is questioned by police, another grisly murder occurs, also inspired by a popular Poe story. Realizing a serial killer is on the loose using Poe's writings as the backdrop for his bloody rampage, Fields enlists the author's help in stopping the attacks. But when |

What does it mean exactly when we hear that most of a film's dialogue was improvised? Posted: 25 Feb 2012 09:24 AM PST These movies do have a plot, and character interactions are usually what advances the plot. So how does it work exactly when so many lines are ad-libbed by actors during actual shooting? Are the made-up lines separate from lines that contribute to the story? Or are they all mixed together and the actors are just told they need to include certain things in their improvisations? [link] [2 comments] |

Teen Battling Cancer Asks Taylor Swift to High School Prom Posted: 25 Feb 2012 10:51 AM PST Kevin McGuire, a Stratford teen battling cancer, asked Taylor Swift to be his date for the prom on June 1. The busy singer replied with a message on her Facebook that read, "Kevin, I'm so sorry but I won't be able to make it to your prom. But I was wondering, the ACM (Academy of Country Music) Awards are coming up. Would you be my date? Love, Taylor." McGuire, 18, is currently being treated at a Philadelphia hospital for leukemia a second time, and gladly accepted the exciting offer. He said the ACM, held in Las Vegas, is "a lot better than the senior prom." However, he also acknowledged, "I'm sick and I'm not sure if I'm able to." The prom date idea started after Kevin's older sister Victoria created a Facebook page intended to catch Swift's attention, but unexpectedly reached 60,000 supporters by Thursday night. |

'Survivor' Producer Bruce Beresford-Redman: I Didn't Kill My Wife Posted: 25 Feb 2012 09:17 AM PST Bruce Beresford-Redman, the former "Survivor" producer accused of killing his wife Monica two years ago, is speaking out for the first time -- and claims he is innocent. Beresford-Redman said on "48 Hours Mystery" in an episode airing Saturday at 10 PM, "Everyone seems to have decided that I killed my wife. I didn't kill my wife. I really didn't." The reality show producer, whose past credits also include "The Contender," is currently in a Cancun jail after being extradited from the U.S. two weeks ago. Monica's family suspects Bruce is guilty after he defied Mexican authorities and fled to the U.S. while trying to fight the extradition. In 2010, Beresford-Redman and his family were vacationing at a luxury resort in Cancun, when Monica discovered he was having an affair. Beresford-Redman said his wife went out shopping one morning and never returned. Monica's naked body was discovered beaten in a sewer near the resort. "For anyone who really believes... that you're innocent until you're proven guilty, please take a look at the evidence. Or in this case, the absolute complete lack of evidence," he said, adding, "I doubt that there will ever be a satisfying resolution for this because the evidence is gone. Even if I do manage to get off, I don't know if Monica's killers will ever really be caught." See the full episode of "48 Hours Mystery" on Saturday at 10 PM on CBS. |
