The Extra List: Billy Crystal's Best Jokes

Posted: 27 Feb 2012 11:04 AM PST

Host Billy Crystal took the 2012 Oscars stage with aplomb -- making it the ninth time he has helmed the prestigious movie awards ceremony.

Here are some of the Crystal highlights from the evening:

Best Billy Crystal Jokes from 2012 Oscars

The Best Picture Medley

During Crystal's signature song incorporating all nine Best Picture nominees, Crystal brought up nominee Jonah Hill's weight loss. "It's great you shed weight," he sang to the actor. "But I think you should know, there's cupcakes after the show."

Clooney Kiss

In the opening movie montage, Crystal awakes to find himself in a hospital scene from "The Descendants" being kissed by George Clooney. Later in the show, he looked at Clooney's girlfriend, Stacy Keibler, and quipped: "You're a lucky girl. He's a very good kisser."

Don't Make Christian Bale Mad

Before Oscar winner Christian Bale took the stage, Crystal began: "A 'Dark Knight,' an 'American Psycho,' a charismatic crack addict. You'll get to choose one on Super Tuesday." It was a swipe at the Republican presidential nominees, sure, but Crystal soon zeroed in more closely on the next presenter, referencing that infamous viral rant from 2009. "Academy Award winner -- and be careful if you're in his eyeline -- Christian Bale."

The Former Kodak Theater

In recent weeks, news hit that the Kodak Theater would be changing its name, due to the longtime sponsor's recent financial troubles. "We're here at the beautiful Chapter 11 Theater," Crystal said, in one of many related jokes. Billy joked later, referring to how old the Oscars are, "Next year this'll be called the Flomax theatre."

Yes, They're Rich

Much like Golden Globes host Ricky Gervais, Crystal made fun on the Oscars extravagance. "Nothing takes the sting out of these tough economic times like watching a bunch of millionaires giving golden statues to each other," he smiled.

Tres Bon

On Jean Dujardin's Best Actor win, Billy quipped, "They must be going nuts in France right now. Or whatever the French have in place of joy."

Billy is a Mind Reader

The host let the audience in on what some of the Academy Award attendees were thinking.[img:http://c.gigcount.com/wildfire/IMP/CXNID=2000002.0NXC/bT*xJmx*PTEzMzAzMjIwMjQ3NTgmcHQ9MTMzMDMyMjEwMjQxMyZwPTczMDM3MSZkPUFCQ19TRlBfTG9ja2VfRW1iZWRfVkQ1NTE3/NTU4M19CaWxseUNyeXN*YWxJc*FNaW5kUmVhZGVyLSZnPTImbz1jY2FkN2JhMWYxZWU*MGM1OTc*ODk1NDVhOWIwMDhiNyZvZj*w.gif]

Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill, and James Franco Team Up for True Story

Posted: 27 Feb 2012 09:10 AM PST

Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill reunite for True Story alongside James Franco

Moneyball Oscar nominees Brad Pitt, who will produce, and Jonah Hill, who will star, are reuniting once again for True Story, a film that also has James Franco attached to co-star.

The project is based on the memoir by Michael Finkel, a New York Times Magazine journalist who learned in 2002 that his identity was used by serial killer Christian Longo, a fugitive on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted List. Michael Finkel was fired by the magazine after Christian Longo was captured in Mexico, until the fugitive revealed that Michael Finkel was the only person he would talk to. Jonah Hill will play Michael Finkel and James Franco is set to portray Christian Longo.

Brad Pitt is only producing True Story with his Plan B partner Dede Gardner, and won't be acting opposite his Moneyball co-star in the project. Rupert Goold is directing. A screenwriter is not yet attached to adapt Michael Finkel's book yet.

The project was initially set up at Paramount, but now Plan B Productions is seeking financing elsewhere, with a deal expected to be reached later this week. No production schedule was released for True Story.

McG Looks Back With Regret On His Failed SUPERMAN Adaptation Starring Henry Cavill

Posted: 27 Feb 2012 09:47 AM PST

Back in 2002, director Brett Ratner signed up to helm the J.J. Abrams penned Superman: Flyby for Warner Bros. However, he eventually walked away from the project and was later replaced by McG who screen tested Jason Behr, Jared Padalecki, Michael Cassidy and Henry Cavill (who was of course chosen by director Zack Snyder for 2013's Man of Steel) to play Superman. Several other actors were also said to be in talks and it was recently revealed that Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. was considered for the role of Lex Luthor. However, the project ultimately fell apart despite J.J. Abrams' requests to direct his script and the studio ultimately replaced McG with Bryan Singer in 2004. Talking to Digital Spy recently, the This Means War director looked back at his failed adaptation and his regret at not being able to helm the movie which would have also starred Henry Cavill

U2 bassist Adam Clayton is suing the Bank of Ireland Private Banking and an accounting firm, claiming his former personal assistant Carol Hawkins misappropriated €4.8 million of his funds.

According to an article last Thursday in The Irish Independent, Clayton says Hawkins took the money over a five-year period ending in November 2009. The suit names the Bank of Ireland as well as Dublin accounting firm Gaby Smyth & Co. The Irish Times reports that Clayton is seeking €4.38 million in damages (nearly $7 million dollars) from the bank and €4.8 million in damages ($7.5 million dollars) from the accounting firm for "alleged negligence and breach of contract."

Clayton claims the accountants told him in September 2008 the actual misappropriated sum was €13,585 million when it was actually close to €4.4 million.

Last November a judge made a series of orders and directions requesting both sides provide information and documentation prior to the hearing, but both parties want clarification of those orders. Mr. Justice Paul Gilligan stated he would clarify the orders and give his decision in approximately two weeks.

COMICS: Fred Van Lente Details THE AVENGERS Tie-In, "Black Widow Strikes"

Posted: 27 Feb 2012 09:20 AM PST

Marvel's The Avengers: Black Widow Strikes will be published as a serial in the Russian version of Maxim before being released as a three issue comic book this May. Written by Fred Van Lente and with art by Wellinton Alves, Renato Arlem, Neil Edwards, Steve Kurth, Ron Lim and Agustin Padilla, the tie-in will be aimed at a slightly different audience than you might expect from this type of series. "It's more risqué material than the typical licensed comic. Let's just say I spent an entire morning going through the photo galleries of nightclubs in Moscow, and 'all-ages' are not the first words that leap to mind to describe them." "The basic premise of the story is that Natasha's hunting down bootleg Stark Industries technology created by Justin Hammer and Whiplash from Iron Man 2, Van Lente revealed. "So there's kind of a bridge between Iron Man 2 and Marvel's The Avengers
