"Extra's" Jerry Penacoli met with Oscar producer Brian Grazer, who shot down the rumor that Sacha Baron Cohen's alter ego based on his new film, "The Dictator," isn't welcomed at this year's festivities. Says Grazer, "We're thrilled to have him and he'll be on the red carpet dressed as The Dictator."

Grazer also revealed Eddie Murphy, who dropped out as the show's host, will not be making an appearance.

The Oscars will include an opening song-and-dance medley by host Billy Crystal. Then there's Jimmy Kimmel with his 7th after-Oscar special - with a giant surprise this year. Tinseltown revelers will celebrate at Elton John's supreme A-list guest party for 800 to benefit his AIDS Foundation (at $3,500 a ticket).

"Extra" spoke with Best Supporting Actress nominee Jessica Chastain at the Hollywood Reporter's Nominee Night, where she revealed who she will walk the red carpet with on Sunday evening. "I'm bringing my grandma to the Oscars."

Tune in live to the 84th Academy Awards, airing Sunday, Feb. 26 at 7PM/ET, 4 PM/PT on ABC.

TV Talk this week: Billy Crystal likely to keep the Oscar broadcast middle-of-the-road

With the reliable Billy Crystal back in the host's tux, the 2012 Oscars should steer a course toward the predictable, which may be the best choice, all things considered.

JOHN CARTER Extended "White Apes" Scene Revealed; Plus New Footage/Trailer

Posted: 24 Feb 2012 10:02 AM PST

From Academy Award®--winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton comes "John Carter"—a sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). "John Carter" is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past and present. The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands. Wow! I'm not sure if that second part is supposed to be the new trailer, but either way, it looks great. Starring Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins and Willem Dafoe,

Simon Cowell on the 2012 Oscar Showdown, DJs and Red Meat

Posted: 24 Feb 2012 10:56 AM PST

"Extra's" Terri Seymour sat down in London with "The X Factor" judge Simon Cowell as he sounded-off on the upcoming 2012 Oscars.

"I was disappointed 'Mr. Popper's Penguins' didn't get a nod," smiled Cowell. "That would have been my tip for the Oscar. I love that film."

Cowell thinks Meryl Streep will win Best Actress for her turn as Margaret Thatcher in "The Iron Lady." He said, "It will definitely be Meryl Streep. No question about it."

As for who will win Best Actor, Simon said he didn't have a clue, but if he were to choose between Brad Pitt and George Clooney, he'd side with Brad.

Cowell is also a big fan of Jada Pinkett Smith ("She's a total, total star") and revealed he and Jada will produce a show looking for the next global superstar DJ. He explained, "It's like a revolution. DJs are suddenly becoming as big as rock stars."

Wait, is Cowell working on a cooking show as well? "Yes, what's so funny about that?" he asked Terri. She replied by asking what he could cook. "Salads," quipped Simon.

Terri reminded him he made a pretty good steak. Cowell said, "I cut red meat out of my diet now for three weeks." On Seymour's reaction, Simon added, "It's just a start, Terri, but I feel better. I don't feel as though I'm in a bad mood so much. Maybe you should try it."

Star Trek 2 Set Photos with Benedict Cumberbatch Suffering the Spock Pinch!

Posted: 24 Feb 2012 09:40 AM PST

The first real set photos have arrived from director J.J. Abrams upcoming sequel Star Trek 2, giving us our first look at Benedict Cumberbatch, whose character has still not been revealed, though the pictures below seem to indicate that he is in fact a villain. It is speculated that Benedict Cumberbatch is wearing a Starfleet uniform under his coat, and was most likely a friend before revealing himself as a foe. Here, we see Spock (Zachary Quinto) delivering his signature Pinch to this unknown baddie, followed by a scene that finds Uhura facing off against Cumberbatch with her phaser set to kill in order to save Spock's life. The actors are seen working on "The Space Barge Set" located at Paramount Studios.

Report: Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel Set Wedding Plans

Posted: 24 Feb 2012 10:13 AM PST

Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel plan to wed this coming summer at a private estate in an unknown location, according to an Us Weekly.com source. Justin, 31, popped the question to the actress, also 31, last December.

The insider revealed that Biel has chosen a gown for the nuptials. "Monique Lhuillier is her No. 1 choice for the dress." Both have been tight-lipped about their relationship and their plans. The two dated on and off for five years before becoming engaged. Biel finally showed off her engagement ring six weeks after Timberlake proposed, wearing the diamond sparkler to an "SNL" after-party at Ristorante Asellina last Saturday night. An onlooker divulged to Us Weekly.com, "It wasn't huge. It looked vintage and might have been custom-made."

Oscars 2012: How the Academy Killed the Best Original Song Category

Before we attack the Academy, let's begin by saying we'd support 'Man or Muppet' as the winner of the 2012 Oscar for Best Original Song even if it was up against more than one other competitor.

But it's not.

Instead, the kiddie power ballad by 'Flight of the Conchords'' ever-brilliant Bret McKenzie is nominated beside only Sergio Mendes' bland Brazilian cartoon tune 'Real in Rio,' saddling 'The Muppets' song's likely win with an asterisk because a two-song competition is no competition at all -- especially in a year with 10 best picture nominees and in a category that once topped out at 14 songs in 1945.

First Set Photos From STAR TREK 2

Posted: 24 Feb 2012 08:26 AM PST

There has been a lot of uncertainty around just who exactly Benedict Cumberbatch is playing in J.J. Arbram's new Star Trek film. MTV have revealed two new set photos from the film which do nothing to answer that question either, but does show him wearing a black version of the Star Fleet uniform. The first photo shows Cumberbatch doing battle with Zachary Quinto, who is applying the Vulcan nerve pinch, as Spock aboard what is being described as a "space barge". Cumberbatch is able to get away from the Nerve Pinch which leads to the second photo of Zoe Saldana as Uhura coming in with a phaser to help. Like previously stated these photos do nothing to give us an indication on who Cumberbatch is playing, but the fact that he is wearing a Star Fleet uniform is intriguing. Could he be a friend who has just gone rouge, or a enemy
