Nicki Minaj Mock Exorcism Offends Catholic League

Posted: 13 Feb 2012 10:58 AM PST

Hip-hop singer Nicki Minaj apparently shouldered the responsibility for weirdness at the 2012 Grammys, usually provided by Lady Gaga. Minaj hit the red carpet dressed in a Versace red cloak-cape, accompanied by a man dressed like the Pope.

Then Nicki took the stage to perform her new single "Roman Holiday," which included a pre-taped segment of a mock exorcism that began with her singing a manic version of "I Feel Pretty" to her reflection. The live performance included dancing monks and priests swarming around a horizontal Minaj, who then levitated high above the stage.

Bill Donahue of the Catholic League expressed his organization's displeasure with the performance and for the Recording Academy for allowing it to take place. "None of this was by accident, and all of it was approved by The Recording Academy, which puts on the Grammys. Whether Minaj is possessed is surely an open question, but what is not in doubt is the irresponsibility of The Recording Academy. Never would they allow an artist to insult Judaism or Islam."

He continued, "It's bad enough that Catholics have to fight for their rights vis-á-vis a hostile administration in Washington without also having to fend off attacks in the entertainment industry. The net effect, however, will only embolden Catholics, as well as their friends in other faith communities."

USER EDITORIAL: Finding The Real Batman

Posted: 13 Feb 2012 09:44 AM PST

(This is long, but I really hope it is read with open eyes and clear heads. It may quell some of the rage. It may even save Batman.) I think we need to start over. I'm a nice guy. I'm a well-educated guy. I'm a passionate, thoughtful, reasonable guy. At least, that's what I've been told all my life by most people, so that's what I believe. That's all subjective. OBJECTIVELY, I know where I live, what I do, what's happened to me, who I know, and endless other facts, including that I have been a Batman fan all my life. I've loved him since I first knew what a superhero was, and I've always regularly read the comics and have seen and loved every TV show and movie. Dark Knight isn't by any means the ONLY Batmovie I love; it's merely

Before Deadmau5 and Foo Fighters joined forces Sunday night at the 54th Annual Grammy Awards, the Canadian superstar DJ made some news of his own by playing a joke on his DJ pal Skrillex on the red carpet.

"But @skrillex, doesn't mean you're safe from getting the ultimate mau5 trolling experience :) prepare :) hahaha love u!" Deadmau5 tweeted Sunday, giving Skrillex a heads up that something was going to happen.

Walking down the red carpet and stopping for pictures, Deadmau5 was wearing a black t-shirt with a phone number and "u mad bro?" beneath it. The digits were apparently Skrillex's cell phone number. "Maximum trolling achieved," Deadmau5 said with a photo linked to the tweet.

Adele's Triumphant Year

Posted: 13 Feb 2012 10:25 AM PST

She added another six Grammys to her collection last night (she now has eight), covers the March issue of Vogue, in which she talks about her dramatic year of vocal cord surgery, giving up alcohol and the record-breaking album sales of "21."

adele-cover.jpg

Adele, 23, was diagnosed with acute laryngitis last year, and after a few weeks of rest, lost her voice again in May. "That was a hemorrhage," she says, "a burst blood vessel on my vocal cord. That healed, I did a tour, and then it happened again at my best friend's wedding on October 1."

Adele's Amazing Fashion Looks

Performing at last night's Grammys for the first time since her operation, the songstress belted out "Rolling the Deep" and brought the house down.

Since her seemingly instant success in 2008, Adele said she needed to slow down the pace, and said her vocal troubles were a blessing in disguise. "I think I just needed to be silenced. And when you are silent, everyone else around you is silent. So the noise in my life just stopped. It was like I was floating in the sea for three weeks.

adele-yellow-dress.jpg

"It was brilliant. It was my body telling me to fix me. I had so much time to kind of go over things and get over things, which is amazing. I think if I hadn't had my voice trouble, I would never have broached those subjects with myself. Now I just feel really at peace. And really proud of myself."

The March issue of Vogue hits newsstands Feb. 21.

Gary Oldman talks Michael Caine in The Dark Knight Rises

Gary Oldman has been all over the map in recent months, offering up Q&As about his Oscar nominated performance (his first ever) in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. While in New York recently, the actor talked about working with his friend Michael Caine on The Dark Knight Rises.

It was revealed that Alfred and Jim Gordon have an emotional scene together, with Oldman offering some insight into Michael Caine's approach to acting, hinting that the man would rather be playing cricket than playing butler.

Here is what Gary Oldman had to say about working with Michael Caine in The Dark Knight Rises.

"Watching Michael Caine work, as Alfred, was a great lesson for me. Just focus, concentration. He has this emotional scene; I'm kidding you not. It was tears and the whole thing. And it's, 'Take one'. He got it. 'Take 2', got it. 'Take three', got it. He's just on the money. Every single time. It's just extraordinary. You get inspired by it.

He loves cricket. He loves soccer, so he comes to the set and wants to get it done. He doesn't f**k around because he wants to get back to cricket."

The Dark Knight Rises comes to theaters July 20th, 2012 and stars Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Marion Cotillard, Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The film is directed by Christopher Nolan.

UPDATE: Early this morning (Feb. 13) sources revealed to TMZ that L.A. County Coroner officials told Whitney's family that "the singer did not die from drowning, but rather from what appears to be a combination of Xanax and other prescription drugs mixed with alcohol."

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Coroner's officials say they will not release any information on Whitney Houston's autopsy at the request of police detectives investigating the singer's death.

Capt. John Kades says an autopsy on Houston was schedule Sunday but that a security hold prevents him from releasing any details on its status or whether any probable cause of death has been established.
