Going to see Star Wars 3D... need advice.

Posted: 11 Feb 2012 07:40 AM PST

I never saw any of the new Star Wars movies. I was such a big fan of the originals that I boycotted them when fans were saying they didn't live up. I guess I was being a big of a "mainstream" snob too. I thought I was kewl because I wasn't doing what everybody else was doing. I'm now older and wiser and realize that I was being stupid.

I've decided to see the new 3D version of that first film. I'm actually pretty excited. I know next to nothing about what happens. I know about Jar Jar and that people thought he wasn't as good as the rest of the new characters. I know that some people say they aren't as good as the original films but perhaps people are letting nostalgia cloud their judgment.

I haven't watched the originals in about 8 or 9 years. My question is if I should watch them first to remember the finer details before the new movie? Since it's a prequel it shouldn't be necessary. But I imagine that the films are loaded with little cookies for big fans like me to digest. Advice?

EDIT: Please no spoilers though.

Just saw the Aussie film, Snowtown. WOW!!!

Painful to sit through at times, ultra-violent, but I can't remember the last time a film evoked those types of emotions. I forgot they were just actors, and kept thinking that I was in the room with the departed. Definitely one for after you put the kids to bed tho...

MALEFICENT May Be Angelina Jolie's Next Film

Posted: 11 Feb 2012 07:31 AM PST

Since it was announced in 2009, Angelina Jolie has been attached to star in the title role of the live action vision of Maleficent - based on the popular sorceress from the Sleeping Beauty story. Much more recently, Disney hired a director for their take on the story. Now, Jolie herself has suggested that the movie may be her next acting project. While speaking at a crowded press conference Saturday at the Berlin Film Festival, Jolie brought up Maleficent when asked about the future of her career. "I haven't acted in two years, and I haven't done anything else since this [In The Land of Blood and Honey]. The next thing I am looking at is a Disney movie," said the actress. Jolie also expressed interest in starring in the film a couple months ago, when she said that her kids wanted her to make it. Robert Stromberg (production designer for

EXCLUSIVE - STAR TREK TNG: Behind the Scenes on the Blu-Ray

Those episodes are the two-hour premiere, "Encounter at Farpoint," which introduces Captain Jean Luc Picard and his crew; "Sins of the Father," an inside look at the Klingon Empire as Worf faces a charge of treason an defends his father's honor; and "The Inner Light," one of the show's most critically acclaimed episodes in which Picard lives a lifetime in only an instant on a long dead planet whose inhabitants want only to be remembered. There are two observations about this disc. First off, the image quality - especially when the viewer is given the opportunity to compare what it looked like in its original airing to the remastered Blu-ray version - truly is astounding. The second is that (thankfully) the storytelling for ST:TNG improved vastly as it went on. "Encounter at Farpoint" feels remarkably like the original series (not in a good way, but, instead, feels dated and some of the

If you had to pick one movie to watch twenty-four hours a day for the rest of your life, which would it be?

I'll start. Currently I think I would choose TRON: Legacy. I'm not sure why. There's something about the colors and the idea of that created world from blank digital space. Also I never get sick of the soundtrack.

Seinfeld, Tarantino, Apatow, Gervais: how a 1982 flop inspired them all to write about men, just hanging out and talking about nothing in particular. (x/post from TrueReddit)
