The Extra List: 5 Shocking Stage Falls Caught on Tape! Posted: 09 Feb 2012 11:10 AM PST Most professional artists know the pitfalls, so to speak, of performing on stage, but 16-year-old Symone Black, an "American Idol" Season 11 hopeful, unfortunately had her first taste of public stumbling when she apparently fainted and fell off the stage during the FOX show's Hollywood auditions Wednesday. The credits rolled as a medic was called for and the rest of the audience looked appropriately stunned. Word has it Black was treated for dehydration and is doing fine, and will continue on the show this week. Here are five other dramatic tumbles from some top performers, including Beyoncé, Pink - and even "Idol" judge Steven Tyler! The Extra List: 5 Stage Falls Caught on TapeBeyoncéThe new mom fell down stairs on stage, face first, during a concert in Orlando in 2009, but jumped right back up to continue the show. Mariah CareyA newly pregnant Carey slipped during a 2010 performance in Singapore. Kelsey GrammerWhile hosting Disneyland's 50th anniversary celebration in 2005, the "Boss" star got too close to the end of the stage and fell off. PinkThe singer was about to start performing her song, "So What" during a 2010 concert in Germany, but fell off the stage when her harness malfunctioned. Steven TylerThe Aerosmith frontman fell while performing some fancy footwork at a 2009 South Dakota show. |
Grammys' Best New Artist Farce: Why the Category Needs a Makeover Posted: 09 Feb 2012 02:00 PM PST Filed under: Exclusive, Awards, Spinner Says Getty Images "What gives? That's not new," you say. "Buddy," he says, putting a reassuring hand on your back, "you might know that, but lots of other people haven't even heard of that model before. That's new enough for us." That, in essence, is the Grammys' stance on the Best New Artist award, an honor designed to catapult the winner to new heights of stardom. There's been some scrutiny over previous years' selections -- Evanescence over 50 Cent, Milli Vanilli over real singers, Starland Vocal Band over anything that makes sounds -- but our biggest issue is how talented nominees like Bon Iver, Esperanza Spalding, Shelby Lynne and Lauryn Hill can be called "new" when they're precisely the opposite, a betrayal of the award's reason for existing. |

Giants Super Bowl Champ Victor Cruz Kicks Off Fashion Week Posted: 09 Feb 2012 10:42 AM PST Fresh from his Super Bowl win, Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz cut the red ribbon to signify the start of NYC's Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. The footballer says the huge win over the Patriots still hasn't fully registered. "I've been going to everything, doing the parade and all, but it still hasn't really sunk in. We've just been taking every day as it comes." According to WomensWearDaily.com, the 25-year-old wants to take his family on vacation to celebrate the victory. With endorsements for big brands like Nike, Cruz found a passion for fashion and started a men's clothing label, Young Whales, with former Giant Nate Collins. After launching his men's line in 2010, female fans expressed interest in the football stud creating a women's line. Cruz says he currently is working on that collection, but no reveal date is set. Aware of supermodel Gisele Bundchen's comments about her Patriots quarterback husband Tom Brady, Cruz seemed on the fence. "Obviously, she was still a little emotional. That's what you do for your partner. It would be wrong if she didn't. But it's not right to talk about the team." Cruz will be attending the Tommy Hilfiger and Naeem Khan runway shows. |

Edgar, Eastern Promises, Fair Game, 21 Grams) will play the role of Princess Diana in the upcoming movie Caught in Flight. Directed by Oliver Hirschbiegel (Academy Award nominated Downfall), and based on the screenplay by Stephen Jeffreys, production will begin in the UK later this year. It charts how finding true personal happiness for the first time allowed her to achieve her defining successes evolving into a major international campaigner and humanitarian. Speaking earlier, Naomi Watts, who will next be seen starring in The Impossible opposite Ewan McGregor said: "It is such an honor to be able to play this iconic role - Princess Diana was loved across the world, and I look forward to rising to the challenge of playing her on screen." Director Oliver Hirschbiegel commented: "I am delighted to have such a truly exceptional actress who embodies the warmth, humanity and empathy of such a global icon as Princess Diana." Ecosse Films' Robert Bernstein stated: "It is very exciting to be working with one of our finest actresses, Naomi Watts, on what will be a powerful and poignant film.
