Ted Adds Laura Vandervoort

Posted: 02 May 2011 10:25 AM PDT

Laura Vandervoort joins the cast of Ted

Actress Laura Vandervoort has joined the growing cast of Ted for Universal Pictures and writer-director Seth MacFarlane.

The story centers on John (Mark Wahlberg), a grown man who made a wish as a child for his teddy bear to come to life, which it did. Now the teddy bear, which will be voiced by Seth MacFarlane, still lives with John and has become a foul-mouthed bad influence on the man. Laura Vandervoort will portray a gorgeous co-worker of John's, who doesn't quite register the fact that nearly every man she meets drools over her.

Seth MacFarlane will make his feature directorial debut with Ted, working from a script he co-wrote with Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild.

It isn't clear when production will start on Ted at this time.

Ted comes to theaters in 2012 and stars Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel McHale, Patrick Warburton, Jessica Stroup, Laura Vandervoort. The film is directed by Seth MacFarlane.

Watched Le Cercle Rouge last night, can't decide if I liked it or not.

Posted: 02 May 2011 10:04 AM PDT

I was recommended Jean Pierre Melville's library (of which I haven't seen anything), so I started last night with Le Cercle Rouge, and I can't decide if I liked it or not. I definitely appreciated it, and found it to be fulfilling from a style and film making standpoint, but as far as my primal reactions to the story, I think it was just OK.

I do love that this movie was basically like an indie crime drama but 20 years before those got popular. It's cool to see where those themes and ideas that took off from Tarantino with Reservoir Dogs came from. I love the grounded look we got at law enforcement, thieves and murderers. This movie was "gritty" as hell; very brooding, dark, I love that stuff. The tone was awesome, the pacing was cool and unique, and the heist scene was just bad ass. There's definitely a lot I liked about this movie.

That said, some issues I had SPOILER'S HERE

Seemed like a very huge coincidence that the Vogler character just happened to hide in Corey's trunk, of all trunks, therefore setting up their partnership and ultimately altering Corey's fate with the heist. If he never meets Vogler, he may never meet with Santi's jewel guy (who's a cop) and ultimately not get shot at the end. I guess a huge element of this stories DNA is that Corey was unfortunate enough to cross paths with Vogler (and maybe that was his lesson to learn) but like I said, that is one damn huge coincidence that the trunk Vogler climbed in just happened to be a master thief. I feel like if this happened earlier in the story I would have been able to digest it easier, but it was a problem I had throughout the story.

I have a few other issues with the story but, I'll wait for comments if they come. Other than that, let me know how you like Le Cercle Rouge, and if I should continue with the Melville watching.

Why does Thor have so many good reviews when it totally sucks? It's an insult to marvel fans and people in general.
