According to the DC Comics Universe, the Lazarus Pit is a "mythical vat of arcane chemicals first discovered by Ra's al Ghul as a cure for the dying son of a sultan he worked for. The Pit had a terrible side effect, however; it turned the Prince temporarily insane, leading to him killing the doctor's wife. After being blamed for the murder, the man who would become Ra's Al Ghul was buried in the desert. He was rescued by a tribe and a boy named Huew. After this, he used the Lazarus Pit to save himself, and vowed to avenge his wife. The doctor gave himself the title Ra's al Ghul - The Demon's Head."

It is not known how The Lazarus Pit will play into the plot of The Dark Knight Rises.

The Dark Tower May Be Dropped by Universal Pictures

The Dark Tower may be cut loose by Universal Pictures

Officially, Universal Pictures' adaptation of the Stephen King novel series The Dark Tower is still moving forward, although insiders claim that the studio is considering dropping the project altogether.

Universal is reportedly considering plans to put the project into turnaround, since problems with the budget have recently come up. The studio along with Ron Howard and Brian Grazer's Imagine Entertainment are apparently considering whether to shop the project to another studio, either to co-finance with Universal or to completely take over The Dark Tower.

The studio would not comment, although studio sources indicate The Dark Tower is still moving forward as planned. Javier Bardem is close to finalizing his deal to portray the lead of Roland Deschain, a nomadic gunslinger who roams the countryside in search of The Dark Tower in a last-ditch effort to save mankind.

Back in September, Universal announced a unique strategy for The Dark Tower series, which calls for the first movie's release in 2013, to be followed by an NBC TV series which bridges the gap between the first and second novel. Ron Howard is directing The Dark Tower from an adapted screenplay by Akiva Goldsman.

The Dark Tower comes to theaters May 17th, 2013. The film is directed by Ron Howard.

Old 97's Say Middle America Would Never Accept Alt-Country's Inherent 'Hickishness'

Twenty years ago, critics didn't have a name for Old 97's brand of jumped-up roots-rock, so they invented one: alt-country.

The name stuck, with lazy music scribes affixing that label to any group that infused rock with a country twang.

Like a kid that gets a new haircut, and suddenly finds himself hanging with the cool crowd, old-school country music was born anew simply by adding a prefix. While Old 97's benefited from the exposure, singer Rhett Miller tells Spinner there was a downside to the tag.

"It became a bit of an albatross," he says.

Tom Cruise's Exclusive Rumor Control for 'Extra'

Posted: 06 May 2011 11:11 AM PDT

"Extra's" Jerry Penacoli caught up with Tom Cruise on Thursday, and the actor set the record straight on a few recent rumors, one of which involves a new movie based on the bin Laden take-down. When asked if he would consider the role as the Navy SEAL who pulled the trigger, Cruise replied, "You know, I don't know. I mean, it's an extraordinary thing that they did. It was really exceptional."

Tom's most recent project is the screen version of the hit musical "Rock of Ages," in which the Tom says he's having a "blast." Transforming his physical appearance for the part, the actor declared, "I got my hair growing in. I got the hair going!"

His extensive preparation for the role of Stacee Jaxx also involved "training for months and months" and included teaming up with the vocal coach for Guns N' Roses.

Due to his hectic schedule, the busy megastar confirmed he will not appear in an episode of "Glee." "No, no, I'm heading to Miami, man."

The action star also talked about repelling off the tallest tower in the world -- a 2,700-foot skyscraper in Dubai -- for the fourth installment of "Mission Impossible," scheduled for release in December. "It was challenging and I had a lot of fun doing it."

Here are the first two shots of the "The Dark Knight Rises" shoot in Jodhpur, India. The photo shows the crew setting up a green screen for the shoot, which took place today. Does that mean, that we will see more, than just a flashback of Ra's al Ghul? The Lazarus Pit is mythical vats of arcane chemicals in the DC comics universe. The most common user of the pit is Ra's al Ghul. Ra's al Ghul accidentally discovered the first Lazarus Pit as a cure for the dying son of a sultan he worked for. Wolverine Will Join X-Men: First Class Sequel?

Wolverine may join up with X-Men: First Class

For a while, there was a rumor going around that Hugh Jackman was bringing The Wolverine into X-Men: First Class for a cameo. While that was shot down (but still a possibility if they are indeed keeping it a surprise), producer Bryan Singer, director of the first two X-Men outings, has confirmed that there is a strong possibility Hugh Jackman will reprise his role as Logan in a future follow-up to X-Men: First Class.

This is what Bryan Singer had to say on the matter.

"I think there would definitely be room. I think it would be a very exciting thing. This universe has to establish itself first, but that would be a very interesting and fun thing."

Bryan Singer also claims that he is not scared of having an X-Men movie without The Wolverine.

"It's a completely different film. Xavier and Magneto are important characters as well. It's just a different X-Men film. I obviously love the character, but you can't not do it just because he's not in it."

The Wolverine comes to theaters in 2012 and stars Hugh Jackman.

X-Men: First Class comes to theaters June 3rd, 2011 and stars Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, Caleb Landry Jones, Nicholas Hoult, Kevin Bacon, Jennifer Lawrence, Edi Gathegi, Jason Flemyng. The film is directed by Matthew Vaughn.

"Nancy and Paul are getting married," a source close to Shevell, 51, a New York businesswoman, told People.com. "Ring and all -- very exciting." The singer, 68, began dating Shevell in the Hamptons during the summer of 2007. "They have the right chemistry," the source said. "They're both cool, chilled out and optimistic." McCartney's first marriage was to longtime love Linda McCartney, whom he wed in 1969. She died of cancer in 1998. His second union to Heather Mills in 2002 ended in a messy multi-million-dollar divorce trial in 2008. They have a daughter, Beatrice, now 7. The Beatles legend also has the endorsement of his four children with Linda; Heather, 48, Mary, 41, Stella, 39 and James, 33. Moby's Song About Losing His Mother, 'The Day,' Pulls Double Duty as Protest Track

It's hard to find a more personal subject than the loss of a parent, which Moby poignantly documents in his moving new single, 'The Day.' Written about a day he spent in the hospital with his dying mother, it might seem like an odd song to become the soundtrack for a protest, but 'The Day' was adopted by the organization MoveOn.org to accompany a video they did to protest recent budget cuts. For his part, Moby believes it's a great testament to his mother.

"One of my earliest memories of my mom was marching in anti-war protests in the late '60s and when I was like 7 or 8 years old," he tells Spinner. "On Saturdays, we used to volunteer at the local Public Interest Research Group, so my Saturdays growing up were spent volunteering for lefty organizations. I'm sure that if she were still alive she'd really be thrilled that this song was being used for good purpose."

Star Trek 2 Gets J.J. Abrams' Full Attention After Super 8 Is Released!

Star Trek 2 gets J.J. Abrams full attention after Super 8

Star Trek 2, while eagerly awaited by new fans and old Trekkers, has been at the back of J.J. Abrams' mind for the past year. It hasn't really been a priority, since he was busy throwing his heart in soul into this summer's mystery thriller Super 8. Now that production is done on that film, and its quickly nearing its release, J.J. Abrams is ready to turn his full attention on the sequel to 2009's well-received Star Trek reboot.

While a script has yet to be officially approved, Abrams recently explained that Lost's Damon Lindelof, who produced the first chapter of this intergalactic saga, will have a strong hand in writing this time out, collaborating on the story with original writers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman.

Here is what J.J. Abrams had to say.

"Damon is working on the script for this one. As busy as I've been with Super 8,' I remember that when we did the first one, Damon was that busy with 'Lost.' So it's going to be very cool to have him on board as a writer. There are some amazing ideas. These are not just great friends of mine, but they're great writers. I'm thrilled and very optimistic that it's going to get to where it needs to get to."

J.J. Abrams has still not committing himself to direct Star Trek 2 at this time, though.

"The truth is that my focus has been so much on finishing 'Super 8' that it's been something I'm looking forward to getting to, but with an incredibly compressed post schedule, there hasn't been a whole lot of time for me to be working with the writers. Now that Super 8' is drawing to a close in terms of this post schedule, I'm looking forward to jumping in and hopefully getting that ready as soon as possible."

Star Trek 2 comes to theaters June 29th, 2012 and stars Zoe Saldana, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Anton Yelchin, Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, John Cho.
