Tried posting to TOMT, maybe /r/movies can shed some light on my friends mysterious film memory.

Posted: 28 Jul 2012 08:51 AM PDT

A friend of mine is trying to track down a film he vaguely remembers. He sent me this text describing it;

"Whats the movie where some guy buys an exotic bird for the family home and it kills their cat then at the end he uses it to catch fish?"

When I asked him some follow up questions he remarked that it was most likely a serious film, and not a comedy. Apart from that he was not offering me much to work with.

COMICS: Dave Gibbons Dismisses BEFORE WATCHMEN As "Not Really Watchmen"

Posted: 28 Jul 2012 09:22 AM PDT

In a lengthy video interview with Eurogamer - which you can watch in its entirety below - artist Dave Gibbons was asked to share his thoughts on DC's Before Watchmen prequels. Also talking about his role in the Zack Snyder helmed big screen adaptation, Gibbons (who is currently working with Mark Millar on The Secret Service) dismissed that and just about every other non-Alan Moore/Dave Gibbons related piece of Watchmen media. "It was a little bit out of my control, but they actually paid me quite a lot of money to be a consultant on it. I looked at two of the cut scenes and drew over a bit of artwork to show how I would draw it. That's what they paid me… well, I'd be embarrassed to tell you how many thousand dollars for. But I was a distant consultant." "I didn't have a lot of input in it. To me

Paul McCartney, Arctic Monkeys Rock London Olympics Opening Ceremony

Posted: 28 Jul 2012 12:15 PM PDT

British rock 'n' roll factored heavily into last night's London Olympics opening ceremony, and as one might expect, the music of the Beatles got gold-medal treatment. In addition to Paul McCartney's closing performance of "Hey Jude" -- a massive singalong he prefaced with a line from "The End" -- latter-day Brit-rock heroes the Arctic Monkeys covered the Fab Four's "Come Together."

The Monkeys also offered up their debut hit, "I Bet That You Look Good on the Dance Floor," and as a billion people watched around the world, drummer Matt Helders marked the celebration of U.K. culture by rocking a Union Jack tracksuit, the NME reports.

Joining the Monkeys on the global stage was Alex Trimble of Two Door Cinema Club, who sang "Caliban's Dream," written for the London Games by Rick Smith of Underworld. Other performers included Dizzee Rascal, Mike Oldfield, and rising Scottish songstress Emeli Sande, who performed a stirring version of the hymn "Abide With Me."
