THE DARK KNIGHT RISES: Warner Bros. Cancel Future Cast Appearances In Mexico And Japan

Posted: 21 Jul 2012 10:54 AM PDT

Following the shocking events in Aurora, Colorado which saw gunman James Holmes go on a shooting rampage during a midnight screening of The Dark Knight Rises, Warner Bros. has put a stop to all future appearances of the cast and crew from the film. The premiere in Paris was understandably cancelled yesterday, although this announcement means that director Christopher Nolan and stars Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway and Joseph Gordon Levitt will not be taking part in the planned press conference or red carpet events on Monday at Mexico City's National Auditorium. However, fans invited to the screenings in Mexico and Japan will still be able to attend, as will any promotion winners. Details as to why the shooting (which left 12 dead, and 59 injured) took place still aren't clear, although Colorado authorities are today undertaking a series of "controlled detonations" in Holmes' booby-trapped apartment. 'Dark Knight's' Christopher Nolan Responds to Movie Shooting

Posted: 21 Jul 2012 10:50 AM PDT

Director Christopher Nolan released a statement on Friday in the aftermath of the tragic shooting at a "Dark Knight Rises" midnight showing in Aurora, CO.

"Speaking on behalf of the cast and crew of The Dark Knight Rises, I would like to express our profound sorrow at the senseless tragedy that has befallen the entire Aurora community," he wrote. "I would not presume to know anything about the victims of the shooting, but that they were there last night to watch a movie. I believe movies are one of the great American art forms and the shared experience of watching a story unfold on screen is an important and joyful pastime."

International MAN OF STEEL Teaser Trailer

Posted: 21 Jul 2012 10:33 AM PDT

I think this version is much more effective, how about you? Superman takes to the skies once more as acclaimed actor Henry Cavill (The Tudors, Immortals) dons the suit, cape and S-shield of the MAN OF STEEL. With an all-star cast that includes Diane Lane and Kevin Costner as John and Martha Kent, Clark's earthbound parents; Oscar® winner Russell Crowe as Superman's Kryptonian father Jor-El; The Fighter's Amy Adams as intrepid Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane; The Matrix's Laurence Fishburne as editor Perry White; and Boardwalk Empire's Michael Shannon as Superman's otherworldly archenemy General Zod, populations from Smallville to Metropolis are psyched for Superman. With the directorial stylings of 300's Zack Snyder and the superheroic production team behind Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, the sky's the limit for the last son of Krypton! Zack Snyder's Man Of Steel hits theaters June 14th, 2013.

How the hell did "The Empire Strikes Back" only gross half the amount "A New Hope" did?

Posted: 21 Jul 2012 08:29 AM PDT

This has been bugging me for ages. When the original Star Wars came out it was a huge hit, making $1.4bn in inflation adjusted terms. Not only that but it was also a big critical hit, garnering great all round reviews.

So why then did the sequel, The Empire Strikes Back, a film universally agreed as as good if not better, make $777m in adjusted terms, almost half what the original did.

I know the first was an almost unprecedented hit but why the massive drop off? Surely it would go on to even higher numbers or at least match it's predecessor, especially considering the great reviews both got. It doesn't really make sense.

Also, what does it say about films like Avatar, a huge hit both critically and commercially? Will that face a similar sort of "Empire Strikes Back" affect, no matter how good it is?
