Elton John didn't care much for George W. Bush's policies -- in fact, the singer once called him "the worst thing that ever happened to America" -- but in terms of fighting AIDS, he admits, Dubya has done more than any U.S. president.

"He was amazingly informed about AIDS," John said in a recent interview with the ABC News/Yahoo! Power Play series, recalling the time he met Bush after the Kennedy Center Honors. "He treated us with such kindness. I had so much respect for him."

A longtime crusader against the disease, John credits Bush for enacting the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), a $15 million program aimed at prevention and treatment in Africa.

Filming Of THOR: THE DARK WORLD Goes Underground

Posted: 25 Jul 2012 10:53 AM PDT

Bleeding Cool have apparently discovered that Thor: The Dark World will be shooting in, "some long tunnels in London [which] will be used for the filming of scenes that, as yet, we haven't been able to confirm as taking place on Earth, on Asgard or elsewhere." They don't have an awful lot more than that in the way of new details, although it was recently revealed by stuntman James Grogan that "elves" will be featured in the sequel (more than likely the Dark Elves of Svartalfheim). They have been known to live in caves in the comic books, so this certainly makes sense. Whether or not this will be "The Dark World" that the title refers to remains unknown. As filming draws closer, we should also soon hear some casting news, especially now that Mads Mikkelsen has dropped out of the film as the main villain due to commitments to the

How does the Toronto Film Festival work? Has anyone gone before?

Posted: 25 Jul 2012 09:42 AM PDT

Hey Reddit, me and 3 of my friends thought it would be fun to go to the Toronto International Film Festival this year. I was wondering if anyone has ever attended and could tell me how everything works. Just a few questions off the top of my head are:

  1. Is there a schedule for films throughout the week?
  2. If I buy a 10 ticket pack does that mean I can choose which ever 10 movies I want to see?
  3. Do I need to wear nice clothes?

If anyone could give me some insight that would be greatly appreciated!

Good guy theatre worker

Posted: 25 Jul 2012 09:42 AM PDT

Took my 5 year old to see Spy Kids this morning at our theatre - they do kids movies in the mornings.

Mom was carrying a bag of homemade popcorn in her purse. Cheaper & healthier!

We get to the ticket taker fella and my 5 year old informs him that we don't need popcorn b/c we brought our own from home! The employee says, "I didn't hear that", in a "walk away and we can pretend this didn't happen kind of way". So, my kid says again (louder), "Mommy made popcorn at home for us!"

He laughs and tells us to enjoy the movie.
