Willow, The Princess Bride, The Neverending Story, The Dark Crystal, The Last Starfighter, The labyrinth, Flight of the Navigator and you. Questions about the magic of 80's cinema.

Posted: 16 Nov 2012 09:21 AM PST

Why isn't there more movies like these? Is it because I viewed them in my childhood and they stick with me or are they legitimately great movies? I submit to you, the latter. Only two movies come to mind that have been created since the magic of the 80's that compare to those films.

  • The Fifth Element
  • Stardust

Are there any more films that you can think of that compare to those listed in the title of this thread?

What happened to imagination and why did it explode in the 80's?

I wish to discuss with you, these and other films. Good day.

Review: Lincoln - The weight of the world was on Lincoln’s shoulders and Day-Lewis conveyed every ounce

The movies in theaters now may be the best set of movies simultaneously in theaters that I've ever been around to see.

Argo, Wreck-It Ralph, Skyfall, Flight, Lincoln, Silver Linings Playbook, Clout Atlas... I want to go to the theater right now and see them all.

Husbands & Boyfriends of Twilight Fans — Opportunity Knocks! PLEASE READ

Posted: 16 Nov 2012 08:10 AM PST

I am a man who has sat through every sappy moment of all four Twilight films. In the theater, I might add. Mostly at midnight release parties (because I love my wife) ... And suddenly, all of it became totally worth it last night at the premier of "Breaking Dawn, Part 2," where I got to experience an entire audience of diehard fans completely LOSING THEIR FREAKING MINDS over the gut-punches they never saw coming in this final film!

So seriously, guys: If your girl is a fan of this series — especially if she's read the books — just suck it up and go see this movie with her. Then, when you know the climactic battle scene is about to start, discreetly pull out your phone and get her on video. You'll come away with YouTube material, I guarantee it!

RESULTS: What Did You Think Of SKYFALL?

Posted: 16 Nov 2012 10:20 AM PST

With a Rotten Tomatoes score of 92% ("Sam Mendes brings Bond surging back with a smart, sexy, riveting action thriller that qualifies as one of the best 007 films to date"), Skyfall is one of the most critically acclaimed movies of 2012 and perhaps the most praised instalment in the 50 year old franchise yet. It also looks set to be the first James Bond movie to gross over $1 billion at the worldwide box office, but despite all of those accolades, it was far more important to us to learn what YOU guys thought of Skyfall. Nearly 2,900 of you cast your votes and it's pretty clear that, well, you LOVED it! You can read my 5* review of Skyfall by clicking HERE. Ariane Moffatt and PoirierArianemoffatt.com

Ariane Moffatt is no longer Quebec's best-kept secret. In January, the La Belle Province's queen of electro-pop released of her first bilingual album MA -- a stunner of a release that wracked up tons of critical praise, topped Canadian charts (number one on iTunes, number two on Billboard), was long-listed for the Polaris Music Prize and bolstered Moffatt's profile in the rest of Canada.

That momentum shows no signs of slowing thanks to this week's release of MA Remix -- an EP featuring six songs dramatically reworked by Montreal DJ/producer Poirier.

"I'm super happy with," Moffatt, the confirmed non-sex addict, tells Spinner the morning after release day. "It's not a musical revolution -- it's an EP -- but the process and the result satisfied me very much."
