I spend most of my time over on /r/nosleep (and I just told them about this a minute ago), but I thought I should post something here because it's relevant to this sub, and, well, it turns out that I'm too excited not to! I'll give just a bit of a back-story/context. I'm going to include some relevant links just in case any of you want to see the things I'm referring to. A year ago, I posted the following stories to NoSleep: Retroactively, I called this series Penpal. Not too long after finishing the stories, I began revising and expanding them into a novel. In April, 2012 I ran a Kickstarter for the book, which, mostly thanks to NoSleep, was a huge success. In August, I published the book on Amazon.com. Before the book had even launched, however (and I haven't told anyone until today), I was contacted by a producer named Rich Middlemas, who won an Oscar for the documentary Undefeated this year. After talking for a while, we reached an agreement, and he is now officially on board to produce the film adaptation of Penpal! Rich has just started shopping the book around in an attempt to get it set up in Hollywood, so we've still got a ways to go, but I'm hopeful that we'll get there. I never anticipated things getting this far, and I haven't forgotten for a second that the people of Reddit are who made this possible. The support I've gotten so far has been incredible, and whatever comes of all of this, I'm proud that it started on Reddit. [link] [25 comments] |

| The Fast and the Furious 6 Set Photos with Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, and Jordana Brewster Posted: 19 Nov 2012 09:49 AM PST   With The Fast and the Furious 6 stars Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel both active on Twitter and Facebook, there have been no shortage of photos taken from the set and shared with their fans. Over the weekend, Dwayne Johnson posted the latest shots to his Twitter page. As it turns out, Vin Diesel also shared three more photos from the set this weekend, featuring the actor alongside franchise stars Paul Walker and Jordana Brewster. We have no indication as to when the first trailer for director Justin Lin's high-octane sequel will debut, so these photos will have to suffice for now.
The Fast and the Furious 6 comes to theaters May 24th, 2013 and stars Paul Walker, Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Gina Carano, Michelle Rodriguez, Luke Evans. The film is directed by Justin Lin. |

| The Girl from Nagasaki First Look Photo from Director Michel Comte Posted: 19 Nov 2012 10:07 AM PST  Internationally renowned artist Michel Comte and his wife Ayako Yoshida have completed principal photography on their first feature film, The Girl from Nagasaki. They have also revealed a first look photo.
The film is a multimedia, contemporary retelling of Puccini's classic opera Madame Butterfly. After filming around the world in numerous locations including Japan, Germany, the United States, and Italy, Comte chose to film his grand finale at Teatro Valle in Rome, one of the first opera houses to premiere Puccini's original "Madame Butterfly." The film stars both Mariko Wordell and prima ballerina Polina Semionova as the tragic geisha Madame Butterfly, Ayako Yoshida as her faithful maid Suzuki, and both Edoardo Ponti and Christopher Lee as Officer Pinkerton. The movie boasts an eclectic, global, and multi-generational cast including Robert Evans, Nobu Matsuhisa, Michael Nyqvist, Michael Wincott, Anna Orso, Clemens Schick, Lisa Zane, Mehmet Yumak, Burhan Öçal, Marianne Faithfull and Sasha Alexander. The Girl from Nagasaki, presented in Comte's inimitable, lush visual style, is shot in 3D live action including musical performances, contemporary ballet, and original animated sequences. It is a musical presentation featuring a combination of current and classic artists in a post-modern sensory feast that Comte often refers to as his trans-opera. Comte and Yoshida's Madame Butterfly begins with the first atomic bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. As the film develops, Madame Butterfly emerges from the ashes of World War II metamorphosing into today's modern world in a dramatic portrayal of the harsh differences between Japanese and Western values. The Girl from Nagasaki written in collaboration with Anne-Marie Mackay, explores themes of physical claustrophobia and psychological confinement in this examination of dogmatic conflicts. To further the central topic of isolation, Comte employs the skills of artist and creative director James Dean to fabricate numerous sets that effectively juxtapose a celestial vastness with a daunting entrapment. Comte's use of the 3D camera accentuates his phenomenal use of space and light incorporating a visceral experience to accompany this claustrophobia that takes place on the screen. The Swiss born artist, Michel Comte, is one of the world's foremost photographers with his subjects spanning the worlds of art, sport, fashion and film. In addition to his iconic portraits and advertising campaigns, Comte has increasingly moved into photo reportage and documentary work depicting war zones and the unstable areas of Iraq, Afghanistan, Bosnia, Sudan and Cambodia on assignments for the International Red Cross as well as his own Michel Comte Water Foundation. | The Dark Knight Rises Never Before Seen 'Rise' Theatrical Posters Posted: 19 Nov 2012 10:04 AM PST  When you have a blockbuster like The Dark Knight Rises, studios hire several different marketing companies to come up with promotional material. Of course, some of the work does not get used in the final campaign, although we rarely get a chance to see those discarded materials. Trailer Park Inc., a company that worked on The Dark Knight Rises campaign for Warner Bros., has unveiled three never before seen, unused posters created for director Christopher Nolan's Batman finale during its theatrical run. Check out these artistic, black and white posters featuring Christian Bale's Batman and Tom Hardy's Bane as they Rise from the ashes of the trash heap.
The Dark Knight Rises was released July 20th, 2012 and stars Tom Hardy, Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Liam Neeson, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Gary Oldman, Marion Cotillard, Morgan Freeman. The film is directed by Christopher Nolan. |
| Cheap Trick, Ottawa Bluesfest Stage Collapse Blamed on Poor Construction Posted: 19 Nov 2012 01:59 PM PST Filed under: Concerts and Tours, News, I Fought the Law Some 19 "failings" under the Occupational Health and Safety act were found after the stage collapsed in high winds, injuring three people. According to the Ottawa Citizen -- who received the provincial ministry of labour report under a freedom of information request -- Groupe Berger failed to safely protect its stage hands. The report, which comes in two portions written by a Health and Safety Inspector (Jason Gordon) and an engineer (Robert Molina), added that no inspection was conducted by a licensed Ontario engineer during the stage's construction nor following the collapse of the stage. |

| Daniel Craig Surprises Troops in Afghanistan Posted: 19 Nov 2012 10:45 AM PST British troops in Afghanistan received a special visit from James Bond aka Daniel Craig, on Sunday. The "Skyfall" actor joined the soldiers at Camp Bastion in the Helmand Province to introduce the latest 007 flick. Royal Air Force Sergeant Dave Hammond was in the crowd and was touched by Craig's visit. He loved the film, calling it a "return to the old James Bonds," according to the Daily Mail. |
| Report: Accuser Backtracks on Recant re Kevin Clash Posted: 19 Nov 2012 10:48 AM PST The trouble on Sesame Street isn't over yet. The man who claimed he had underage sex with Kevin Clash, and then recanted to say it was "an adult consensual relationship," now states he was pressured to change his story. TMZ reports Sheldon Stephens, 23, signed a settlement agreement for $125,000, in which "Stephens agrees that immediately upon execution of this Agreement, his counsel, Andreozzi & Associates, P.C., shall release the [following] statement ... 'He [Stephens] wants it to be known that his sexual relationship with Mr. Clash was an adult consensual relationship.'" Stephens now says he didn't want to sign the agreement, was literally crying in the negotiations, and stands by his original story that he had sex with Clash when he was 16. Stephens is currently interviewing new lawyers to undo the settlement. Clash's lawyer told TMZ Friday he would have no comment on the settlement story. |

| Natalie Portman Spotted On THOR: THE DARK WORLD Set; Stan Lee's Cameo Revealed? Posted: 19 Nov 2012 09:10 AM PST Another week of filming in London is in store for Marvel's much-anticipated Thor: The Dark World movie. And following last week's battle-heavy scenes, actress Natalie Portman has finally been spotted filming the Alan Taylor-directed Marvel sequel. When cameras were rolling today, Chris Hemsworth was seen costumed running in the street, followed "closely" by Portman. Photographed by @DonnyJonny_ of Twitter, check out the distanced set photes below. And for the possible reveal of Stan Lee's cameo, possibly related to Natalie's scenes today, check even lower! Also, Stan "the man" Lee's inevitable cameo in the 2013 actioner may have been revealed also.
