Movie 43 Red Band Featurette

Posted: 17 Nov 2012 09:08 AM PST

A cast of thousands directed by the top comedy minds of this century? It can only be Movie 43, a raunchy and outlandish anthology film that boldly goes above and beyond the call of duty in shocking an audience. The Gross-Out comedy genre of the late 90s, early 00s gets its comeback, shepherded by the ones who started it all, producers Peter Farrelly and Bobby Farrelly, who also jump into the mix by directing one of these hilariously offensive shorts. Relativity Media has released a red band featurette that introduces the characters behind this madness, and the actors that play them. Get ready for a lot of laughs with an all-star cast that includes Emma Stone, Elizabeth Banks, Kristen Bell, Gerard Butler, Chloe Moretz, Uma Thurman, Hugh Jackman, Anna Faris, Kate Winslet, Josh Duhamel, Richard Gere, Johnny Knoxville, Halle Berry, Justin Long, Jason Sudeikis, and so many more.

Nine Gangster Squad Character Posters with Nick Nolte and Anthony Mackie

Posted: 17 Nov 2012 09:54 AM PST

Gangster Squad was originally supposed to arrive in theaters way back in September, but it got bumped due to unforeseen circumstances that rendered it a tad controversial. It was pushed back to January at a time when all of its promotional materials were ready to go, and trailers were already saturating the market world wide. It then had to sit and wait things out. How has Warner Bros. killed all that time? By releasing poster after poster for this Ruben Fleischer directed noir thriller that pits gangster Mickey Cohen against the LAPD. We have nine more character one-sheets, all of which feature a single member of this huge ensemble of brawling bad asses. Check out Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Giovanni Ribisi, Michael Pe&#241a, Anthony Mackie, Emma Stone, Robert Patrick, and Nick Nolte in their period costumes, looking a little too sexy for the cold, cruel month of January.

Admission Poster with Tina Fey and Paul Rudd

Posted: 17 Nov 2012 09:24 AM PST

Comedy maestros Tina Fey and Paul Rudd team for the first time on the big screen in Admission, a charming look at middle age and the trappings that come with it. Fey stars as a single, Princeton admissions officer who discovers that she may have a college bound son. Rudd is her goofy love interest. Focus Features has released the first poster, which is as innocuous as you'd hoped. It's chipped beef and gravy for all your white friends.

Kristen Stewart Channels Angelina Jolie at 'Breaking Dawn 2' Event?

Posted: 17 Nov 2012 10:14 AM PST

It appears Kristen Stewart is playing by Angelina Jolie's red carpet rulebook these days and showing off a little leg. Wearing a floor length gold gown with a slit up the side, KStew struck a pose all to similar to Angie's now-famous Oscar stance.

Stewart looked every bit the A-list actress in the floor length Elie Saab dress, posing with on-again boyfriend Robert Pattinson and co-star Taylor Lautner. At some point in the night, however, she couldn't take the heels anymore and traded them in for worn black sneakers! She must have been a touch cold too…she completed the ensemble by adding her black leather jacket!

BOX OFFICE: SKYFALL Looks Likely To Drop 60% As The Final TWILIGHT Dominates

Posted: 17 Nov 2012 08:26 AM PST

It's finally over. Well, until they reboot it or find a way to make another instalment that is! This weekend, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 has sunk its fangs into the North American box office with $72.1 million on Friday (including Thursday 10pm/Friday midnight screenings) and an estimated global cume of $275 million by close of business on Sunday. Back in the US, it's thought that it will take around $135 million, but that is fact LESS than the previous instalment! Of course, it's Skyfall that really suffered this weekend, dropping 60% for $12.3 million on Friday and a predicted $40+ million total for the weekend. That's not too bad, especially as this will take its current total to $160 million since it opened last Friday. Sony Pictures continue to predict that the critically acclaimed Bond movie will make upwards of $800 million worldwide by the end of its

The big screen experience is doomed

Posted: 17 Nov 2012 08:41 AM PST

Not my post, so I'm making it a text submission. Formatting is poor, but I'm really curious what you guys think about this.

Original thread

When I was a kid we had one TV... it was 27" and I thought we were the rich family on our street. There were 5 channels, each of which came on with a concentrated "clunk" by turning the dial. Sure, there were a few shows I loved back then... Night Stalker being my all time favorite. Still not much choice and only a handful of good options anyway. Movies were under $2 and everybody was glued to the screen appreciating the experience.

Cut to today. Pretty much anybody can have a 50" or larger TV that beats the hell out of anything from even 10 years ago (actually only 5 years ago, because 10 years ago a 32" square TV was $1K or more). Now you can buy a 60" screen for that, and on that screen you can see anything you want in the comfort of your own home. And it's not going to cost you $10+ per viewing of that movie (let alone everything else you watch on a TV... i.e. the movies are more or less "free" once you own the TV).

I just got home from Argo. Congratulations Ben, I'm happy for you. It was good. But the old people behind me didn't have the self-awareness to STFU during the movie. I finally turned around to tell them to quiet down, and to my surprise it was an old couple that looked like it could have been my parents. I stared at them for a second, and they quieted down briefly, but within a few minutes resumed their own clueless, selfish experience of the movie. Earlier this year I bought a prepaid 10-pack of AMC tickets... I have one ticket left. I'm going to see Skyfall on Sunday because I have a gig tomorrow. After that? It's going to take a new Star Wars or another Bond movie (something 4 stars and universally praised) to get me back in a $10 per seat theater.

Praise to places like the Draft House theater in Austin... I would have been thrilled if somebody came up and told the folks behind me that they had to leave.

Bottom line is: we all have iPhones, Facebook, etc., and we live in a world of instant selfish gratification. And anywhere you go people are buried into their own life experience... which is great, except when you're in a shared experience environment. If you can't sit there and appreciate the shared experience for what it is then jeez, stay home! At the beginning of the movie they always have the little disclaimers about being quite, etc... then they show a bunch of attractive young people being consumed by the show as they quietly enjoy a Coke. But the reality is -- it doesn't matter the age, ethnicity, gender -- as soon as the movie starts all you hear is BAGS (why not ONLY have cups/buckets for popcorn?) rustling as people have to maximize THEIR OWN experience of this movie. even if it means talking to the person next to them, or eating, drinking, hell... even texting to talk to the person that isn't even there!

Seeing movies at the theater? Until somebody figures out how to truly convince a whole audience to respect the shared experience, I'd way rather watch a movie on a pretty darn good (and big) screen in the comfort of my own home without strangers ruining the experience for me.

Has anybody else noticed the 80" TVs coming down in price? I think once we can all have 80-100" 4K TVs in our living rooms... well, Hollywood better realize that there will be zero point in the big screen experience by then.

Just last week I was working with a cam op and we were talking about how Ian Anderson (of Jethro Tull) used to tell his audience to STFU and listen to the music... was he really that far off base?
