Jeff Tweedy Q&A: Wilco Frontman Rails Against Ageism and 'Dad Rock' Label

Wilco's recent albums have been criticized as "safe" when compared to their previous, more experimental efforts. Others labeled this new sounds "dad rock."

But while some hardcore fans bristled at the more straightforward rockers on
Sky Blue Sky and Wilco (The Album), frontman Jeff Tweedy says the sound of the band's music is guided more by what the songs need than what individual fans want.

"It would be foolhardy to go into making a record for some imagined audience or some imagined audience member and try to figure out what they want to hear," he tells Spinner.

Five years after the band's masterpiece,
Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, was praised for its complexity and variety, the band released Sky Blue Sky in 2007, causing some fans to say the band abandoned its edge. Similar complaints surfaced with Wilco (The Album) in 2009. But the band's latest, 2011's The Whole Love, has fans lauding a return to Wilco's roots.

Tweedy , 45, currently on tour with the band, recently addressed critics and getting older in a chat with Spinner.

Did you feel like some fans were trying to pigeonhole you, like "we've got to have a song with these sounds in it or else we're not going to like it"?

You can't be that sucked into the world of criticism. The main thrust of being in a band and making music and creating for us for a long time has been our relationship with a live audience and making records that we really love. But at the same time it's way more of a living, breathing thing. You get out, and the songs get tweaked or they resonate or they don't resonate with an audience and you figure out different ways to present them.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt's Reps Deny His Rumored Involvement With JUSTICE LEAGUE

Posted: 27 Nov 2012 09:12 AM PST

We usually get a "No Comment" or outright denial when it comes to most casting rumours, so it shouldn't come as a huge surprise to learn that Joseph Gordon-Levitt's reps have flat out denied his involvement with Justice League. It was thought that the Looper star would reprise his role from The Dark Knight Rises as 'John Blake', first with a cameo in Man of Steel and then as a member of the League. While this would have placed the highly anticipated superhero ensemble in the same universe as Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, it still riled fans that 'Bruce Wayne' would not be beneath the cowl. Well, Hollywood.com, "checked in with Gordon-Levitt's reps who have refuted the rumor entirely." It seems far more likely that this "rumour" has been leaked by Warner Bros. simply as a way of boosting interest in the release of The Dark Knight Rises on DVD and

POLL: Would You Like To See Joseph Gordon Levitt As BATMAN In JUSTICE LEAGUE?

Posted: 27 Nov 2012 09:05 AM PST

Yesterday's rumor about Joseph Gordon Levitt stepping into the Batman role for the Justice League movie left many fans in disbelief, but the fact is, Hitfix always has been and remains a pretty rock solid source. I'm not suggesting that Drew McWeeny over there is never wrong, and obviously it's possible he received some bogus info, but I do know he wouldn't have posted it unless he at least believed it. So, there is a possibility we will see Levitt as Batman, either in Justice League or before that, maybe even via a cameo in Man Of Steel. So how would that go down with you CBMers? I mean there is no doubt JGL is a fine actor, and was very impressive as the heroic Blake in The Dark Knight Rises. Him returning for the Justice League movie would also mean some continuity between future WB/DC projects and Christopher Nolan's

Gabriel Aubry Files for Restraining Order Against Olivier Martinez

Posted: 27 Nov 2012 09:46 AM PST

Halle Berry's ex, Gabriel Aubry, has obtained his own restraining order against Berry's fiancé, Olivier Martinez.

In the legal docs filed on Monday, Aubry gives an entirely different account on what went down Thanksgiving Day, claiming it was the French actor who struck first in their brawl.

According to his declaration, Aubry arrived to Berry's home Thanksgiving morning to drop off daughter Nahla, and Martinez came outside, telling Gabriel, "We need to talk." Then Aubry claims, as he turned to close his car door, Martinez jumped on him, punched him and knocked him to the ground, yelling that Aubry had cost them $3 million in the custody battle.
