Iron Man 3 Ben Kingsley Photo Reveals Mandarin's Ten Rings of Power!

Posted: 03 Nov 2012 10:41 AM PDT

We've already gotten a good look at Iron Man 3's main villain Mandarin in both an official photo and the teaser trailer that were released in October. Now, Marvel Studios has ponied up an official hi-res publicity photo of Ben Kingsley in character showing off his Ten Rings of Power. Are you scared yet? You should be...

iron man 3 Mandarin Photo

From the official Marvel website:

"Discovered by the Mandarin in China's "Valley of Spirits," the Ten Rings of Power are actually the product of the dragon-like race Axonn-Karr (or Makluans) from the planet Maklu-IV. The Axonn-Karr utilized them mainly as the power source for their interstellar craft's engines. The rings' functions currently cannot be explained by modern Earth science.

The Mandarin learned how to utilize the rings for own personal use and make them respond to his personal commands. Over the years, the Mandarin's mind has actually come to inhabit the rings so that now no one else can make use of them. The Mandarin can also now control the rings over large distances."

The functions of each of his original set of rings are as follows:

LEFT HAND:

  • Pinky: Ice Blast. Freezes the air in its path and can lower an object's temperature to almost absolute zero.

Ring Finger: Mento-Intensifier. Magnifies the Mandarin's psychic energy enabling him to mentally control a person. Only effective at short range.

Middle Finger: Electro-Blast. Emits quantities of electrical energy determined by the wearer (Mandarin). Upper limit of output is unknown.

Index Finger: Flame Blast. Emits infrared radiation and can cause air to incandesce by igniting its molecules. Maximum out is unknown.

Thumb: White Light. Emits many different types of energy from the electro-magnetic spectrum. Frequently used as intense visible light and laser beams.

RIGHT HAND:

  • Pinky: Black Light. Creates area of "absolute blackness" where all light is absorbed. It is believed that this ring accesses the "Darkforce" used by people such as Darkstar and the Shroud.

Ring Finger: Disintegration Beam: Destroys bonds between atoms and molecules causing an object's cohesion to fall apart. Needs 20 minutes recharge time between uses.

Middle Finger: Vortex Beam. Causes air to swirl about in a vortex at high speed. Can levitate objects, propel wearer (Mandarin) in flight and be used as a weapon.

Index Finger: Impact Beam. Projects concussive force of approximately 350 lbs. of TNT. Can also cause intense sonic vibrations and create magnetic waves.

Thumb: Matter Rearranger. Can rearrange atoms and/or molecules of substances or speed up/slow down their movements to result in various effects. Cannot actually transmute elements.

Iron Man 3 comes to theaters May 3rd, 2013 and stars Robert Downey Jr., Guy Pearce, Jon Favreau, Gwyneth Paltrow, Paul Bettany, Ben Kingsley, Rebecca Hall, Don Cheadle. The film is directed by Shane Black.

A Young Doctor's Notebook is a four-part comedy drama based on a collection of short stories by the celebrated Russian writer and playwright Mikhail Bulgakov. The drama recounts Bulgakov's semi-autobiographical experiences as a young doctor working in the small village of Muryovo at the dawn of the Russian Revolution in 1917.

Recounting from his notebooks, the Doctor considers his life and career as he tries to treat the patients of a village that is struggling to enter the modern age. Dealing not only with the superstitious and poorly educated patients but with his own inner demons, the doctor reveals doubts about his own competence and struggles with the immense burden of medical responsibility.

Jon Hamm takes on the role of the older doctor, who has a series of bleakly comic exchanges with his younger self, played Daniel Radcliffe.

RESULTS: How Do You Feel About Disney And STAR WARS: EPISODE VII?

Posted: 03 Nov 2012 10:30 AM PDT

When Disney bought Marvel for $4 billion back in 2009, they pretty much left the company alone to carry on with what they'd successfully been doing for many years before the purchase. Yes, there were a few changes here and there, but nothing too major. That's not the case with LucasFilm. Disney are planning on ushering in a whole new era of Star Wars films with a new trilogy (something that fans never thought they would see) and countless other types of merchandise, TV shows and video games too. Thought it was weird seeing The Avengers toys in the Disney Store? Just wait until it's Star Wars' turn! While this is by no means a bad thing, although some older fans definitely didn't seem to happy with the news when it was announced earlier this week. However, as you can clearly see from the results below, the majority couldn't be happier

Music Tapes' Traveling Imaginary Show: Julian Koster Takes Fans on Musical Journey

Posted: 03 Nov 2012 10:35 AM PDT

Filed under:

Julian Koster claims to trace his family lineage back through generations of Romanian circus performers, and he's shown a fondness over the years for unconventional tours and concerts. So commissioning a circus tent of sorts as part of the Traveling Imaginary, his latest project with the Music Tapes, is really just the next logical step.

The Music Tapes debuted a version of the Traveling Imaginary Friday night at the Flywheel Arts Collective in Easthampton, Mass., a small DIY space in part of what used to be an old New England town hall. Koster and bandmates spent the afternoon building a venue within the venue, erecting their red-and-white striped tent for an evening performance of music, a movie, stories and games for an audience of a few dozen.
