Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg May Write Star Wars Spin-Offs Instead of Sequels Posted: 28 Nov 2012 09:55 AM PST Last week, we reported that Lawrence Kasdan will write Star Wars: Episode VIII, and Simon Kinberg is writing Star Wars: Episode IX, news that still hasn't been confirmed by Disney. It turns out there's a good reason for that, since the scribes may not be writing those movies after all. Insiders claim that the writers will be working on separate projects that may either turn out to be used as the sequel scripts, which will continue the Skywalker storyline, or potential spin-offs focusing on side characters. Nothing has been confirmed by Disney or Lucasfilm at this time. But it looks like this franchise is going to take a note from Marvel's The Avengers in the way sequels and spin-offs are set-up. In related news, last month, we reported that Mark Hamill may return as Luke Skywalker in the highly-anticipated Star Wars: Episode VII. While no deals are official yet, the actor spoke about the sequel at the red carpet premiere of his new movie Sushi Girl. Take a look at the actor's candid remarks, commenting that he believed George Lucas and Disney actually announced the massive deal too soon. "I don't have any information that isn't already out there. And I'm in a place where sometimes I forget what's classified and what's not. I said to my son - because my son is really the Star Wars fanatic in my family, of my three kids - I said, 'How come you know more about Star Wars than me or even Lucasfilm?' He goes, "Well, Dad, I go to StarWars.com.' He knew about the new writer, Michael Arndt, before I knew about that... I'm not holding out on you. I just know that nothing's been decided, whether we're in or out. I was surprised at how George announced it, because he told me about this last summer. Not about Disney, but just that they decided after all these years that they were gonna go do VII, VIII, and IX. We were just shocked. But it's so in the early stages... I thought he announced too early. I don't know what the timing was in terms of the Disney deal. But we don't know what's going on really. And when we do, believe me, we'll let you know! [Laughs.]" Star Wars: Episode VIII comes to theaters in 2017. Star Wars: Episode IX comes to theaters in 2019. Star Wars: Episode VII comes to theaters in 2015. |
Thor: The Dark World Set Video Reveals The Power of Malekith The Accursed Posted: 28 Nov 2012 08:50 AM PST Earlier this month, we showed you a set video from Thor: The Dark World featuring a fight scene between Chris Hemsworth's Thor and Christopher Eccleston's Malekith the Accursed. Today, we have even more footage from that scene being shot at the University of Greenwich, featuring Chris Hemsworth being flung high into the air, with the help of some wire work. This brief glimpse of footage gives you a better idea of just how powerful the nefarious Malekith the Accursed really is in director Alan Taylor's superhero sequel. Thor The Dark World - On Set at the University of GreenwichThor: The Dark World comes to theaters November 8th, 2013 and stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Jaimie Alexander, Idris Elba, Stellan Skarsgård, Christopher Eccleston, Kat Dennings. Brad Pitt Would Love To Work With David Fincher On 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA Posted: 28 Nov 2012 09:34 AM PST Not too long ago, we heard that director David Fincher was seeking frequent collaborator Brad Pitt to star as Ned Land in his anticipated remake of 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, which is an adaptation of the classic Jules Verne novel. Walt Disney Pictures are currently trying to decide whether or not to greenlight the movie, and Fincher isn't pursuing any other projects in the meantime. Now, speaking to MTV while promoting his latest film, Killing Them Softly, Pitt is asked if he would be interested in 20,000 Leagues. Not surprisingly, he's very much into working with Fincher for a fourth time (after the two worked together on Se7en, Fight Club and The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button). "I'd love to. I mean, he's my man. He's got a great take on it. That's just gonna be about schedule and time allocation, but he's my |
