Joss Whedon Confirms Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch for The Avengers 2

Posted: 17 May 2013 11:01 AM PDT

Scarlet Witch is confirmed for The Avenger's 2

Back in April, Marvel's The Avengers director Joss Whedon teased that mutant siblings Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch would be making an appearance in the sequel, The Avengers 2. Now, he has confirmed that with IGN.

Here is what he had to say about their inclusion.

"You know, they had a rough beginning. They're interesting to me because they sort of represent the part of the world that wouldn't necessarily agree with The Avengers. So they're not there to make things easier. I'm not putting any characters in the movie that will make things easier."

If you have not seen Iron Man 3, you might want to stop reading as this next bit of news from Joss is a MAJOR SPOILER!

At the end of Iron Man 3, Tony Stark destroys all of his suits of armor. The director talked about the challenges of bringing the character back for The Avengers 2 as he has seemingly quit his job as a superhero.

"Well, I feel like in Iron Man 3, even though he said, 'I've changed' -- he blew up his remote suits, but I don't think anybody thinks he doesn't have one anymore. The question is, if The Avengers are called, does he show up? And the answer is, 'Yes!'"

Now comes the important question: Who should play Quicksilver and Scarlett Witch? Let us know what you think.

The Avengers 2 comes to theaters May 1st, 2015 and stars Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Cobie Smulders, Mark Ruffalo. The film is directed by Joss Whedon.

Iron Man 3 'Malibu Mansion Attack' Pre-Viz Animatic

Posted: 17 May 2013 09:35 AM PDT

Marvel Studios Head Storyboard Artist/Animatics Supervisor Federico D'Alessandro released a five-minute pre-viz animatic that shows an early version of the pivotal scene in Iron Man 3 where Tony Stark's mansion is attacked by The Mandarin. Take a look at this video to see how this action sequence was mapped out, months before shooting even began, then read what Federico D'Alessandro had to say about creating this animatic.

"I met with Shane Black very early during pre-production to discuss this scene. Even in the early stages, the sequence seemed gargantuan. So much needed to happen in a relatively short amount of time, and I knew that this would be my most challenging animatic yet. The beauty of the way Shane works is that he's not only a brilliant storyteller but he's very open to other ideas, and during my time on the show he trusted me as a creative collaborator. I wanted to reward the freedom he gave me and that led to some of my best work I've done for Marvel yet. After a few story meetings with Shane where we hashed out a lot of beats together, he gave me control of the scene and I went to work figuring out how to turn this sequence into a visual spectacle.

Creating this animatic was a technically challenging process as I was trying a lot of new techniques not normally found in animatics. The storytelling had to be tight, the energy frenetic, and the action clear. One of the things I focused on was a "good news, bad news" stacking of the beats... Tony gets out of a bind, only to be faced with another challenge which he overcomes but then he is immediately dealt a fresh problem. As much as anything else, Tony needed to out-think his attackers.

Thankfully Shane and Marvel were ecstatic with the end result. By the time the animatic was approved by all the powers-that-be, were still many months away from shooting, but I think having this kind of scene locked down so early allowed Marvel to carefully strategize all the necessary elements to make this very complex scene come to life. In the end, they ended up following my animatic almost shot-to-shot, so seeing that on screen was an amazingly gratifying experience."

In related news, Iron Man 3 crossed the $300 million benchmark at the domestic box office yesterday, after just 14 days in release, and passed the $1 billion milestone internationally, after just 23 days in global theaters.

The sequel is just the second Marvel Studios movie to earn over $1 billion globally, with Marvel's The Avengers crossing that plateau after just 19 days in release. Iron Man 3 is just the sixth Disney movie to earn $1 billion worldwide, following Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, Alice in Wonderland, Toy Story 3, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and Marvel's The Avengers.

Iron Man 3 was released May 3rd, 2013 and stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Jon Favreau, Ben Kingsley, James Badge Dale. The film is directed by Shane Black.

Christopher Nolan May Direct Bond 24!

Posted: 17 May 2013 09:57 AM PDT

Christopher Nolan has been approached to direct Bond 24

Producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson are currently seeking a director for Bond 24, after Sam Mendes (Skyfall) turned down their offer to make the sequel back in March. The Dark Knight Rises filmmaker Christopher Nolan has been approached by the producers to direct the latest installment of their James Bond franchise.

Nothing is official as of yet, since talks are still in very early and informal stages, but the filmmaker recently met with the producers.

We reported in October that the producers are seeking a fall 2014 release date for this 007 adventure, which may pose a scheduling conflict for Christopher Nolan. He is currently in pre-production on his next movie, Interstellar, which has been set for a November 7, 2014 release.

Here's what an insider had to say about the informal discussions.

"It does no harm for Broccoli and Wilson to talk with Nolan, even if nothing happens this time round."

Daniel Craig is locked in to return as James Bond, with Skyfall co-stars Ralph Fiennes (M), Naomie Harris (Moneypenny), and Ben Whishaw (Q) slated to reprise their roles as well.

Bond 24 comes to theaters in 2014 and stars Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw.

Michael B. Jordan Addresses Possibly Playing ‘Human Torch’ In FANTASTIC FOUR Reboot

Posted: 17 May 2013 09:14 AM PDT

A tiresome debate ignited earlier this month when rising star Michael B. Jordan was revealed to be in early talks to re-team with Chronicle director Josh Trank for FOX's Fantastic Four reboot. Possibly playing the role of Johnny Storm, aka Human Torch, Jordan recently discussed the potential casting with USA Today and The Huffington Post. Revealing first and foremost that, "Nothing is real. Everyone knows we (he and Trank) are good friends," Michael does admit, "It's something that if it happened I would be ecstatic." Addressing his and the superhero's obvious racial difference, Jordan argues that, "Things change and time goes on, it's 2013 right now. I'm all about breaking barriers and changing stuff," says Jordan. "We've got a black president. Times have changed. The characteristics of the Human Torch are his name is Johnny Storm, he's charismatic, and he's a playboy. That's it. You know what I'm saying? That's all
