The Wizarding World of Harry Potter Theme Park Adds Diagon Alley and London

Posted: 08 May 2013 10:11 AM PDT

Universal Studios Orlando announced today that they are adding Diagon Alley and London expansions to their theme park The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Take a look at an illustration of what these additions will look like, when they open in 2014, then read the press release for more details.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Diagon Alley

Building on the global phenomenon that is The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Universal Orlando Resort and Warner Bros. Entertainment today announced an expansion of historic proportion with the entirely new themed environment, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Diagon Alley.

Scheduled to open in 2014, the world's first centrally themed, multi-park experience expands The Wizarding World of Harry Potter across both Universal Orlando theme parks and allows Universal's creative team to bring an unparalleled vision to this unique project. The new area will bring to life some of the experiences and places found in and around London in the Harry Potter books and films, offering brand-new adventures for fans and theme park guests from around the world.

Diagon Alley and 'London' will be located within the Universal Studios Florida theme park, which is adjacent to Universal's Islands of Adventure theme park, where guests now experience Hogwarts and Hogsmeade. The new area within Universal Studios will be just as expansive, immersive and authentic as the existing themed environment.

And - just like in the books and films - guests will be able to travel between 'London' and Hogsmeade aboard the Hogwarts Express.

Work on the new area is already underway. When complete, it will feature shops, a restaurant and an innovative, marquee attraction based on Gringotts bank - all directly inspired by the fiction and films.

More details on The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Diagon Alley will be released over time.

To bring Diagon Alley and 'London' to life, Universal's creative team is working closely with Warner Bros. and the production design team from the Harry Potter films - just as it did for Hogwarts and Hogsmeade.

Here's what author J.K. Rowling had to say about the new attraction.

"I'm so pleased that The Wizarding World of Harry Potter has proved so popular to date, and I'm sure that the attention to detail in creating the new Diagon Alley area will make this an even better experience."

Tom Williams, Chairman of Universal Parks & Resorts, also added the following statement.

"We are continuing the journey and adding an entirely new level of adventure," said . "And we are bringing the same drive, commitment, enthusiasm and innovation to this project as we did to the first."

Brad Globe, president, Warner Bros. Consumer Products, had this to say in his own statement.

"We are thrilled to offer the legions of fans the opportunity to embark on this new journey and experience Diagon Alley as it was brought to life in the books and films."

Alice Norsworthy, executive vice president, marketing and sales for Universal Orlando Resort, commented on the resort's vision for this theme park.

"Our vision is to create two amazing theme park experiences that combine into one, complete, magical journey."

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Hogsmeade opened at Universal's Islands of Adventure in June 2010 as a fully immersive Harry Potter themed environment - bringing to life the bestselling books by J.K. Rowling and the blockbuster feature films from Warner Bros. Since that time, it has become a global phenomenon, entertaining millions of people from around the world.

Visitors to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter are swept into the adventures of Harry Potter. They can tour Hogwarts castle, shop in Hogsmeade and dine at the Three Broomsticks. They can soar above Hogwarts with Harry, be chosen by a wand at Ollivanders, sample Butterbeer and much more.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 was released July 15th, 2011 and stars Ralph Fiennes, Michael Gambon, Alan Rickman, Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Evanna Lynch, Domhnall Gleeson. The film is directed by David Yates.

The actress was asked about a possible appearance in Bryan Singer's upcoming X-Men: Days Of Future Past but remained tight lipped, instead revealing her admiration for the films and the cast they attract. "I think that the X-Men series is a really successful one in constantly finding new and additional characters, or younger versions of the same characters to explore. Ms. Marvel and Blade in Development at Marvel

Posted: 08 May 2013 10:22 AM PDT

Ms. Marvel feature in development at Marvel

In addition to their growing Marvel Phase Three slate, which includes director Edgar Wright's Ant-Man, the studio is also developing feature projects for Ms. Marvel and a Blade reboot. Marvel also has plans for Doctor Strange, Iron Fist, Black Panther, and Runaways, but it isn't known if these are being developed for Phase Three or future Phases.

Back in October, we reported that Marvel was eyeing actresses Emily Blunt and Ruth Wilson to play Ms. Marvel in the Phase Two sequel The Avengers 2, but this is the first we're hearing of a stand-alone Ms. Marvel project. Carol Daniels (a.k.a. Ms. Marvel) first appeared in an 1968 issue of Marvel Super-Heroes as a U.S. Air Force member. While the character was not born with super powers, her exposure to a Kree device explosion turned her into a human-Kree hybrid.

Marvel recently re-acquired the Blade rights from New Line Cinema, although no specific plans for a reboot have been announced yet. Wesley Snipes starred as the title character in 1998's Blade, 2002's Blade 2, and 2004's Blade: Trinity as the Daywalker, a vampire-human hybrid who hunts evil vampires at night.

The studio has also re-acquired the rights to franchises such as Ghost Rider and Daredevil. No feature plans have been announced thus far, and any project based off these properties will likely be many years away from hitting theaters.

In addition, Marvel's Kevin Feige revealed the studio has no plans for spin-off movies for Don Cheadle's War Machine from Iron Man 3, or Anthony Mackie's Falcon from Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Blade was released August 19th, 1998 and stars Wesley Snipes, Stephen Dorff, Kris Kristofferson, N'Bushe Wright, Donal Logue, Udo Kier, Arly Jover, Traci Lords. The film is directed by Stephen Norrington.

If there's one thing Mona and Beth did a lot of on the two-hour Amazing Race finale, it was running. After messing up the Titanic serving Detour more than 10 times in the penultimate leg, the roller derby moms mistakenly went to the White House and then ran all the way around Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. "That was our theme the whole season," Beth tells TVGuide.com. "We like to get lost and do extra running. ... I read on a fan forum that they call it 'killer fatigue' and we had it. I didn't realize it until it happened, but you really are running on fumes for days and days. The physical stuff wasn't bad for us, but you almost got tunnel vision and aren't thinking properly." Keep reading to see what else they have to say about their navigation problems, why they thought they were going to the White House and more.

Is Ryan Reynolds Returning as Green Lantern on Arrow Season 2?

Posted: 08 May 2013 09:57 AM PDT

Arrow producer Marc Guggenheim hints at a Green Lantern appearance in Season 2

The CW Network series Arrow is considering plans to bring another emerald-clad superhero onto the show, as Ryan Reynolds may reprise his role as Hal Jordan aka Green Lantern.

The upcoming season finale features Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) trying to stop Fyers (Sebastian Dunn) from blowing up a Ferris Air jetliner. Here's what executive producer Marc Guggenheim had to say about the Ferris Air reference from the 2011 Green Lantern movie .

"If all goes according to plan, when you see the Ferris Air logo later in the season, it will be the same logo that we established in the movie. I like tips of the hat."

Marc Guggenheim, along with the series' co-creator Greg Berlanti, wrote the screenplay for the 2011 movie Green Lantern, which starred Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan/Green Lantern and Blake Lively as Carol Ferris.

When asked about both Hal Jordan or Carol Ferris making an appearance, the executive producer wouldn't say one way or another, but did hint that he may bring Ryan Reynolds back.

"I would never say never. It's certainly something that we've talked about. As with all DC characters, we have to figure out a way for those characters to fit within our Arrow universe. But when you consider the importance that Hal Jordan plays in the Green Arrow comics, it's certainly one of those names that we've discussed a great deal. I have Ryan Reynolds' phone number around here somewhere."

There are only two more episodes left in Season 1 of Arrow, with "Darkness on the Edge of Town" airing tonight, May 8th, and "Sacrifice" closing out the season on Wednesday, May 15th on The CW Network. We reported back in February that The CW picked up Arrow for Season 2.
