Warner Bros. Making a Live-Action Archie Movie...With Zombies?

Posted: 06 Jun 2013 10:54 AM PDT

Archie comes to the big screen, possibly with zombies

If you've strolled through the mall lately, you may have noticed Archie's Girls, which reinvents the Archie Comics for MAC's line of make-up aimed at young women. The posters that accompany the campaign turn Betty and Veronica into a couple of sluts and reimagine Archie as a devilish douche combination nerd/jock with a lot of facial piercings. Warner Bros. is now bringing that aesthetic to the big screen with a new film based on the iconic Archie comic books. And here's the kicker: The first outing will possibly be based on Afterlife with Archie, which continues to update the popular comic trio, throwing zombies into the mix.

A deal closed last night to bring this latest iteration of the longstanding and iconic comic book series to the screen. Roy Lee and Dan Lin (Gangster Squad; Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows) are producing, with Pitch Perfect's Jason Moore directing and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Carrie; Glee: Thanksgiving) writing.

The story will take place in a modern day version of Riverdale. At the moment, it's believed that the screenplay will follow a flesh-eating plague that sweeps through the hallowed hallways of this iconic high school. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is also the scribe behind the Afterlife with Archie comic book series, which balances its gore with 'elements that are quintessentially Archie'.

This will be the first time that Archie is seen on the big screen. He first appeared in comic books in 1941, and has attempted to stay true to the changing times ever since. In 2010, the series introduced its first gay character. There have been a number of animated series based on the property, and there was a live action 1990 TV movie. What do you think? Does Afterlife with Archie excite you? Have you always wanted to see Jughead battle zombies? Who's the hotter dead girl? Betty or Veronica?

Afterlife with Archie comes to theaters in 2015.

A Princeton grad student with a talent for online poker gets in way over his head in the first trailer for Runner, Runner. Justin Timberlake stars as Richie, who tries to use his gambling skills to pay for his tuition, when he goes belly-up. Convinced he has been cheated, Richie travels to Costa Rica to confront Ivan Block (Ben Affleck), who, in turn, coerces him into joining this lucrative operation. Check out the latest footage from director Brad Furman's drama, written by Brian Koppelman and David Levien (Rounders).

Live-Action ARCHIE Movie On The Way...With Zombies?

Posted: 06 Jun 2013 10:29 AM PDT

Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros. has finalized a deal to produce a live-action adaptation of the Archie comic series...that may also just contain Zombies. It seems Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has been brought on to write the screenplay for the movie, and is also currently working on Afterlife with Archie; a series that sees the Riverdale characters taking on legions of brain-eaters -- so you can see how putting 2 and 2 together equals Zombie. Pitch Perfect director Jason Moore signed on to helm the film, with Roy Lee and Dan Lin producing and Krishnan Menon executive producing. I'm not sure how many (if any) CBMers are Archie fans, but would the Zombie twist tweak your interest at all? I saw 'This is the End' at a screening and laughed much..

I saw the movie in a screening yesterday. I was tired after a long commute from work when i went for the movie. When the movie ended, i was fresh and energetic!

Movie is much like the Pineapple Express/Superbad in that it has the stoner comedy, trademark humor from Seth Rogen and James Franco. We all laughed a lot. I was afraid that this may be a lot of in-jokes and self-appreciation, but turned out to be self-depreciating humor and broad comedy. Also, the trailer did not spoil even 1/50th of the funny.

What is, in your opinion, the best trailer you've seen and why?

There are loads of things that make up a great trailer - what it shows, what it doesn't, the music, the editing - so what's your favourite?

I love:

I rewatched The Terminal today and found out that Zoe Saldana was a trekkie way earlier than I thought.
