Josh Wilding Reviews: MAN OF STEEL (IMAX 2D)

Posted: 14 Jun 2013 10:47 AM PDT

Man of Steel is not a bad movie. It's just unfortunate that the trailers made it appear as if it would rival the likes of The Dark Knight and The Avengers, because it most certainly does not. It's not even close. You can blame David Goyer's screenplay on that, as the decision to show pivotal moments from Superman's early years in a series of random and sporadic flashbacks kills the momentum in the first two thirds of the movie. There's nothing wrong with what they contain - one of them arguably features THE most powerful scene - and you can't fault them for wanting to just show a handful of important moments rather than spending too much time with a young Clark Kent. However, a more linear approach to this would have made a lot more sense than showing him mooching around the country in bars and oil rigs. That's far

Man of Steel Earns $21 Million from Thursday Night Screenings

Man of Steel earns $21 million from Thursday night screenings

While it's nowhere near any domestic box office records so far, Man of Steel got off to a solid start at the box office last night, with an estimated $21 million. $9 million of that total came from general midnight screenings, while $12 million came from Wal-Mart's exclusive screening program.

It may be difficult to compare these numbers with other recent midnight figures, since the Wal-Mart screenings happened at 7 PM nationwide. Still, the $21 million tally was higher than the midnight screenings for The Dark Knight Rises ($18.5 million) and Marvel's The Avengers ($18.7 million) last year. 2011's Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 still holds the midnight screening record with a massive $43.5 million, a figure that likely won't be bested until Star Wars: Episode VII or possibly The Avengers 2 in 2015.

Man of Steel opens wide today in 4,207 theaters, the second-widest release ever for a non-sequel. Only 850 of those theaters will be screening this superhero adventure in 2D. Stay tuned throughout the weekend for more news about Man of Steel's opening weekend at the box office.

Man of Steel was released June 14th, 2013 and stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Diane Lane, Russell Crowe, Antje Traue, Harry Lennix, Richard Schiff. The film is directed by Zack Snyder.

UPDATE: John C. Reilly Linked To 'Ronan the Accuser' Role In GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY?

Posted: 14 Jun 2013 09:35 AM PDT

The rumor mill has been running rampant lately for Guardians of the Galaxy, the only non-sequel on Marvel Studios' Phase 2 line-up, but some recent credible news has come in. The first rumor that linked John C. Reilly to the James Gunn-directed film said the Step Brothers actor was offered the role of Rhomann Dey, leader of the Nova Corps. But Deadline now reports that Reilly is really playing "Ronan 'The Accuser' Dey," a member and once-leader of the Kree alien race. Interestingly, the report lists John C. Reilly's character's last name as "Dey" which either indicates that Marvel could be merging Ronan & Rhomann for the film, or Deadline's sources are uncommonly a bit off. The previous Guardians rumors reported that the film version of Rhomann Dey would just be a "human agent who serves as a go-between, keeping the Guardians in line and reporting to S.H.I.E.L.D. about their activities."

Man of Steel 2 Will Introduce Wonder Woman or a New Batman

Man of Steel 2 will introduce Wonder Woman or a new Batman

David S. Goyer is continuing to make the press rounds for Man of Steel, which many of you saw last night at Midnight or early courtesy of Walmart. Yesterday, the screenwriter claimed that Man of Steel 2 would open a floodgate of DC Comics superheroes, and serve as the cause that sets up Justice League.

Today, he tells Hey U Guys out of the UK that we will most likely see either a new Batman not associated with the Christopher Nolan universe, or Wonder Woman introduced in this upcoming sequel, which will definitely spring board into both the Untitled Batman Reboot and Justice League. Though, no stand-alone Wonder Woman movie is being discussed at this time.

"It would be disingenuous to say Warner Bros doesn't hope that this would be the starting point for a shared universe. And [Zack] Snyder has said that Bruce Wayne exists in this universe. It would be a different Bruce Wayne from Chris' The Dark Knight trilogy, and it would be disingenuous to say that Zack and I haven't had various conversations on set, around 'what if' and 'moving forward'. That having been said, it's all going to depend on the next few weeks. Warner Bros has hopes that there will be more Man of Steel films, and that this will be the beginning of a shared universe. We could meet Batman, or Wonder Woman, or the Justice League in these movies. But they all hinge on box office reception. If that happens, I would be happy, and nervous, to dive in."

While there is a loose screenplay for Justice League lurking about, it won't be used in the shooting of this mammoth ensemble. David S. Goyer confirms that a new screenplay is in the works, but is careful not to confirm himself as the author.

"They're hoping that the film does well, but god forbid it doesn't, things will change. I don't know how many different iterations of Justice League they've tried to mount over the last decade or so. But for one reason or another they haven't happened. I think Warner Bros has seen, and Christ[opher Nolan] deserves the biggest credit for this, that we were able to revitalize Batman and put it into the first billion dollar superhero film. And they're hoping that Superman will be revitalized as well. And if we can do Batman and Superman, then maybe we can move on to Wonder Woman, and The Flash, and characters like that."

What do you think? Are you excited to see a new Batman or Wonder Woman in Man of Steel 2 first? Or do you just want Justice League right now? Will this whole enterprise be better the longer it simmers?

Man of Steel was released June 14th, 2013 and stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Diane Lane, Russell Crowe, Antje Traue, Harry Lennix, Richard Schiff. The film is directed by Zack Snyder.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Confirms His Return in The Expendables 3!

Posted: 14 Jun 2013 10:08 AM PDT

Arnold Schwarzenegger returns for The Expendables 3

One day after confirming that he'll be back as The Terminator (T-101) in Terminator 5, the legendary action icon Arnold Schwarzenegger has confirmed that he will reprise his role as Trench for a third time in The Expendables 3.

Arnold is currently at the 21st Century Financial Education Summit in Austria, where he is giving daily updates and announcements about everything he currently has on his slate, which, along with health, fitness, and education, also includes updates on the Twins sequel Triplets, which reunites him with Danny DeVito and offers him a chance to work with Eddie Murphy for the first time. And The Legend of Conan, sometimes referred to as King Conan by Schwarzenegger. He is getting the screenplays for both movies soon, and shooting will commence back-to-back late next year. Terminator 5 comes first though, with an early 2014 start date confirmed.

But before all that can happen, Arnold will be in Los Angeles this August, shooting his scenes for The Expendables 3 alongside Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Nicolas Cage, Jackie Chan, Wesley Snipes, Milla Jovovich, and the villainous Mr. Mel Gibson for what promises to be one of the greatest casts in cinematic history.

No story details have been revealed for The Expendables 3. Escape Plan, his other potential franchise starring opposite long time screen rival and off screen best friend Sylvester Stallone was pushed back to October to allow shooting on The Expendables 3 to come together in a timely fashion, as Arnold Schwarzenegger's worldwide publicity tour for Escape Plan was set to get in the way.

Stay tuned for more announcements coming soon out of the 21st Century Financial Education Summit soon.

The Expendables 3 comes to theaters August 15th, 2014 and stars Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Nicolas Cage, Jackie Chan, Wesley Snipes, Milla Jovovich, Arnold Schwarzenegger. The film is directed by Patrick Hughes.

Terminator 5 is in development and stars Arnold Schwarzenegger.
