Phil Lord and Chris Miller will direct Carter Beats the Devil

21 Jump Street directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are in talks to direct Carter Beats the Devil for Warner Bros. We first reported on this project back in June 2010, when the studio picked up the Glen David Gold novel.

The story is based on a real-life magician named Carter the Great, a popular illusionist in the 1920s. The plot revolves around Carter performing a trick for President Warren G. Harding, but when the Commander-in-Chief is found dead, the magician must go on the run to clear his name. The story also features real-life figures such as TV inventor Philo T. Farnsworth, Harry Houdini, and The Marx Brothers. The novel was originally set up at Paramount back in 2002, when Tom Cruise was attached to play the title character.

Michael Gilio adapted the novel, with Jonathan Shestack producing. Phil Lord and Chris Miller are coming off their successful live-action directorial debut 21 Jump Street, which has earned $188 million worldwide.

Carter Beats the Devil comes to theaters in 2013. The film is directed by Chris Miller, Phil Lord.

Mark Hall To Auction Of His One Of A Kind Avengers Desk For Charity

Posted: 04 Jun 2012 10:29 AM PDT

A while back I posted an awesome desk that collector Mark Hall had Tom Spina Designs created for him in the likeness of The Avengers. Melissa from Tom Spina Designs was kind enough to shoot me an e-mail so that I could share with you that Mr. Hall is auctioning off his prized Avengers themed desk. The desk design was done by Tom Spina and Richard Riley, with Riley doing all the fabrication work. Hall had previously auctioned off his Han Solo carbonite desk that was created for him that fetched over $10,000 for charity. The proceeds for this auction will go to benefit the charity WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) who helps combat the over 4,000 children that die of water-and sanitation-related diseases. Check out some photos of the desk below which includes Captain America's Shield, Thor's Hammer, Iron Man's helmet and Arc Reactor, Hawkeyes arrows, Nick Furry's Needle gun,

Ben Howard, 'Call Me Maybe': Folk Singer Says His Viral Cover of Carly Rae Jepsen Hit Was Like Going 'To the Belly of Hell'

Carly Rae Jepsen's insidiously catchy "Call Me Maybe" isn't just a number one single. The song has become a full-blown pop-cultural phenomenon, inspiring memes, viral videos starring everyone from Justin Bieber to the Harvard baseball team, and faithful covers by artists like fun..

From this mass of giggles, giddy dance moves and exuberant singalongs, one particular cover has emerged from the crowd. Haunting, pensive and delivered with just a little bit of a smirk, Ben Howard's take is a very different beast. Even the motivation behind the British folk singer's take on "Call Me Maybe" is more like an experiment than straight tribute. Faced with a list of pop songs that they could cover as part of their appearance on BBC Radio 1's Live Lounge, Howard and his band simply picked the least offensive.

"We really didn't have many options," the mostly soft-spoken singer/songwriter tells Spinner. "It was one of those classic 'choose a song from the playlist things' and there was just so much shit on the playlist. It got whittled down to about three different options and I suppose Carly Rae Jepsen's song was the best one of the three, really. We thought it would be funny. If you're going to look for the devil, you may as well go to the belly of hell."

This is excellent. The Prometheus Trailer made of paper.

I have a question that has to do with The Avengers movie, but relates to all film

Posted: 04 Jun 2012 10:02 AM PDT

Was Avengers the first movie to bring together other movie protagonists into one collective group, while acting as a sequel for all the other movies combined?

I've been arguing with my friend that this can't be the case but I really can't think of anything else.

Life of Pi 3D Clip to Debut Before Prometheus

Posted: 04 Jun 2012 09:43 AM PDT

3D footage of Ang Lee's Life of Pi will debut ahead of Prometheus

Those who are going to see the Fox sci-fi thriller Prometheus this weekend will also be treated to 3D footage from Ang Lee's Life of Pi.

The studio is so impressed with the 3D filmmaking in this adaptation of Yann Martel's novel, that the studio also plans to debut new 3D scenes in front of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, arriving June 22, and Ice Age: Continental Drift, due in theaters July 13. The footage will only be shown before 3D screenings of the above movies.

Here's what Tom Rothman, co-chairman of Fox Filmed Entertainment, had to say about this promotional strategy.

"This film is special and different, and so we didn't want to give people the same-old, same-old. Exhibitors drove the idea. They said, 'You want to convey the idea that this movie is very specifically a cinematic experience? Just show people what you just showed us.'"

The scenes Fox plans on showing in these special sneak previews include the sinking of a cargo ship full of zoo animals, and a sequence where Pi (Suraj Sharma) and a tiger come across a school of flying fish.

Fox employed a similar tactic with James Cameron's Avatar in 2009, showing 15 minutes of IMAX footage to moviegoers five months before the blockbuster's release.

Life of Pi comes to theaters November 21st, 2012 and stars Suraj Sharma, Tobey Maguire, Gérard Depardieu, Irrfan Khan, Tabu, Adil Hussain, Ayush Tandon. The film is directed by Ang Lee.
