High & Outside A Baseball Noir - Trailer

Standard 17 Productions, the team behind 2011's indie comedy Stan, is gearing up for their second feature film: High & Outside: A Baseball Noir.

Directed by Evald Johnson, the film is based on his personal experiences as the son of a Major League baseball player turned controversial manager. High & Outside: A Baseball Noir tells the story of one man's dream to play professional baseball and the desperate measures he takes to keep that dream alive.

The company has cast several of the main roles including the veteran actor Geoffrey Lewis as the pivotal father and baseball legend Len Harding. Best known for a run of films alongside Clint Eastwood in the '70s, Lewis' performances in High Plains Drifter, Thunderbolt and Lightfoot and Every Which Way But Loose made Lewis a legend in his own right.

Also on board is David Yow, the notorious front man for seminal post-punk bands Scratch Acid and The Jesus Lizard. Yow has launched an acting career over the last few years, and is churning out stellar performances in feature films and shorts.

Anyone wishing to help fund High & Outside: A Baseball Noir should contact the company directly and/or head to the Kickstarter page.

'Grassroots' review: Seattle candidate runs one-track race

Posted: 27 Jun 2012 06:43 PM PDT

Perhaps the most curious omission from the movie "Grassroots" is that there's no mention at all of the classic "Simpsons" episode "Marge vs. the Monorail." Then again, maybe director Stephen Gyllenhaal didn't want to draw too many parallels between his idealistic protagonist, erstwhile Seattle City Council candidate Grant Cogswell, and the elevated-train-promoting huckster who nearly ruined Springfield.

After postponing seven dates due to the June 16 stage collapse in Toronto which killed drum tech Scott Johnson, Radiohead have confirmed new dates for those gigs.

According to a post on the band's official site yesterday, the dates begin with a Sept. 20 show in Canton De Vaud, Switzerland. The routing is different than the previously scheduled dates with Rome (Sept. 22), Florence (Sept. 23), Bologna (Sept. 25) and Codroipo (Sept. 26) confirmed. The two dates in Berlin originally slated for July 6-7 now take place on Sept. 29-30.

Drummer Phil Selway also posted a short note addressing Johnson's passing and the reaction from fans worldwide. "Thanks to all of you who have sent messages of support over these past couple of weeks," he wrote. "Scott has touched many people's lives and all your sentiments are testament to this. Our thoughts and love remain with Scott's family."
