Are there any movies that won the Best Picture Oscar that you think legitimately deserved the win?

Posted: 17 Jun 2012 11:28 AM PDT

Many of the older titles did deserve to win but all of the newer winners, while good, are usually not the best movie of the year in my opinion. So I was just wondering if anybody thought some of them may have actually been the best movie of the year.

Flaming Lips NXNE Photo Gallery: Confetti, Smoke, Megaphones and Hamster Balls

It's over.

Just like that, The Flaming Lips came into our lives with their over-sharing, mid-life crises and weirdness, and left after a hail of confetti cannons, hamster balls and laser lights.

Now all that remains are sore feet, the pasties, and "Do You Realize?" cycling in an endless loop through our brains.

At least we managed to document the whole thing. Check out our live blog smorgasbord from yesterday that compiled proper reviews of all the bands who played Spinner's big free NXNE party along with crowd photos, tweets, naked bicycle rallies (seriously) and other absurdities.

Then click to launch the gallery below to find out what you missed if you weren't one of the many thousands who showed up to watch the Flaming Lips.

Hey guys, can you help me look for a Quentin Tarantino movie poster that shows all his movies in one poster. (including Django unchained)

Did people really think "That's My Boy" was as bad as the IMDb rating? I was in stitches the whole time

    Posted: 17 Jun 2012 09:36 AM PDT

I was honestly laughing from start to finish with this movie, and my jaw hurt afterwards. IMDb gives it a shit rating of 4.1/10, and I just find that incredibly hard to believe. I just want to hear what some others' thoughts on the movie are.

The ending of Monster (2003) ? (SPOILERS)

    Posted: 17 Jun 2012 11:31 AM PDT

The conversation on the phone at the end seems really cryptic, and i feel like i'm missing something hugely here. Did Selby call the police on Aileen? Is Selby going to go to prison as well as Aileen (with the police seeing her as an accomplice) pending the phone call, and at what point in said phone call does Aileen bite the bullet and admit that it was all her? The parts where Selby mentions the red car and the money are the cryptic sounding bits.

It's staring me right in the face but i'm having an extremely dim moment here. Please help :)

    Hey r/movies! What's your favourite stupid/ silly/ feel-good comedy film?

    Posted: 17 Jun 2012 10:40 AM PDT

I'm looking for something light-hearted and silly to watch (a la Anchorman/ Dodgeball etc.) But nothing too quirky/ emotional like Wes Anderson's movies, which, although I'm a massive fan of, am not in the mood for tonight.

I loved Waltz with Bashir and Persepolis - what are some other animated movies like that?

    Posted: 17 Jun 2012 10:28 AM PDT

I love that style of animation, and I love how both tell very serious stories through animation.

I have watched all of Miyazaki's movies (love them immensely) but those are a bit different.

Only one on my list currently: Grave of the Fireflies.

Chris Pine Talks STAR TREK 2 Anticipation, Filming With IMAX And More

    Posted: 17 Jun 2012 11:19 AM PDT

Talking with Collider while promoting his new movie People Like Us, Chris Pine talks about the highly anticipated sequel to J.J. Abrams' Star Trek. He discusses the pressure that the cast feels since the sequel's anticipation is so high, while also dishing on Abrams mashing a character driven story with plenty of action. Pine also shares his thoughts on filming with IMAX cameras (it was recently confirmed that the film will be released in IMAX 3D, and that key scenes were shot in IMAX). On Having Big Action In A Character Driven Story: Those big films are scary things. There's so much money behind those things. There's that hype. You enter a machine. I'm just happy that the people behind it were such good, welcoming types. J.J. [Abrams] runs that ship. J.J. is a wonderful guy. What they bring to this kind of film is a small character-driven story, matched with robots or
