After basketball star Tony Parker announced a $20-million lawsuit against W.i.P. nightclub on Thursday, the club said there was no way they could have predicted what went down between Chris Brown and Drake, sources tell TMZ.

Amy Winehouse Foundation to Honor Tony Bennett at Inspiration Awards in October

When Amy Winehouse died in July 2011, Tony Bennett was among those to pay tribute, calling her "an extraordinary musician with a rare intuition as a vocalist." The late singer's family is equally fond of the legendary crooner, and come October, when the Amy Winehouse Foundation holds its first annual Amy Winehouse Inspiration Awards and Gala in New York City, Bennett will be among those honored, Rolling Stone reports.

Bennett recorded the tune "Body & Soul" with Winehouse for his Duets II collection, and the iconic singer donated proceeds from the song to the foundation, which Winehouse's parents launched following her death. While the charity's U.K. branch has focused its efforts on children's hospices, raising more than a million pounds, the U.S. arm is devoted to after-school programs and music therapy for young people.

What has been the best IDEA for a movie? (Even if the execution wasn't as good)

Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter

Posted: 23 Jun 2012 06:59 AM PDT

Everything about this movie was bad, but in a highly entertaining, very satisfying way. Lincoln is a highly principled, axe wielding, champion of good who overcomes personal tragedy and redirects this loss to train himself into a skilled human weapon, intent on inflicting justice, one vampire decapitation at a time. Mary Elizabeth Winstead reprises her role from Scott Pilgrim Vs the World by playing a doe eyed Mary Todd Lincoln who busts out some mad vampire fighting skills at a crucial moment of the film. This movie had it all, vampire killing, soaring oratory and slow motion, balletic axe combat. I give it 5 stars.

16 year old redditor here thinking about a career in film

Posted: 23 Jun 2012 07:48 AM PDT

Forgive me if this is the wrong subreddit, but I am 16 years old and I was thinking about a career in film. I am just a little skeptical about it because I'm not sure what I could do in the field as a stable job to earn a good salary. Would I be able to sign up as just one role, such as cinematographer, or would I need to know multiple video making skills?

Another reason I am unsure is I have heard it can be a competitive and difficult career to follow, and if you're not really good then you will most likely never be hired and get beaten by the better people in the field. Is this true?

This is kind of a poorly phrased question, because it's hard for me to explain it, but I hope I got the gist of it out there. I guess the big question is are there any redditors out there that work in this field and what would it take to get a job in it?

So I just got back from seeing The Amazing Spider-Man. Here are my thoughts on the movie...

Posted: 23 Jun 2012 05:40 AM PDT

I live in Japan and got to see the movie a few days early. I'd like to preface this post by saying that I absolutely loved it and it was 100% the Spider-Man movie I've been waiting to see. That aside, I did have a few issues with the movie, three of them to be exact: Two minor nitpicky things, and one very prominent distraction. I'll start with the smaller two.

First, the pacing is a bit odd. The movie felt like it was a very long reel of short scenes. Sorry, but that's the only way I can describe it. Certain moments felt like they could've been expanded on, and other felt like they needed to be trimmed a bit. Overall, it didn't bother me too much, but it is worth noting.

Second, and this one is a very trivial one, the movie does have one glaring face palm moment. While in the sewers, Spidey sets up cameras to take pictures of The Lizard, which he catches onto pretty quickly. Lizard tears a camera off the wall and turns it around where it reads "PROPERTY OF PETER PARKER." It just seemed like Spidey made no attempt to hide his identity.

Third, and this is the one that definitely hurts the movie most: The music is terrible. Actually, that's not entirely true. When licensed music is used, it adds to the scene and keeps a nice tone to the movie. The score on the other hand felt like it was meant for an entirely different movie. During action sequences, there was very soft music playing that really pulled me out of the movie. I honestly hope that in the eventual sequel they hire someone else to score the movie.

Those are my only real complaints, however, there is one another thing that, while it didn't bother me at all, I can see as a big letdown to the average moviegoer: This really is a movie about Peter Parker. Most superhero movies have a pretty nice balance between the human elements and the hero elements. I'd say most hit a 50/50 or 60/40 split, with 60% human and 40% hero. This movie is at least a 70/30 split with Peter's life being the 70%. Despite what the trailers may have lead you to believe, the focus on Peter's parents is very minuscule, and really only serves as a driving force to get into Spidey's origin. To be more specific, and this is very minor but I'll put it in spoiler text anyway, Peter starts looking into his father's research, which leads him to Oscorp where he is bitten by the spider. That's really about it, he doesn't get his powers as a kid like some thought, and his father's research barely ties into the the genetically altered spider at all. Another thing worth noting is that this movie is pretty angsty, and the romance between Peter and Gwen makes up a pretty big chunk of the movie.

TL;DR: It was good, but has some problems with the score.

Feel free to ask questions, and I'll answer them as best I can

Edit: I saw it in 3D, and really enjoyed it. It wasn't destracting, but did have one particular "pop out" moment. There are a few short first person sequences which were really cool to see in 3D.

BOX OFFICE: ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER Flops With Unimpressive $6.3M Opening

Posted: 23 Jun 2012 08:58 AM PDT

Yesterday's estimate that Brave would have an opening weekend of 60+ million was spot on, as The Hollywood Reporter now reveals that it looks set to finish with a total of more than $66M. After topping the North American box office yesterday with an impressive $24.5 million, Pixar's latest animated feature will take the #1 spot this weekend, while Madagascar 3 will easily nab second place. Down in third is Timur Bekmambetov's critically panned Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Despite it seemingly heading towards a debut of between $20 million - $25 million, a paltry £6.3 million on Friday means that it will more than likely finish at only $16M. The film cost $68M to make, so its success may play a big role in whether or not rival studio Lionsgate decide to continue working on Seth Grahame-Smith's (who wrote the film and novel it is based on) Pride and Prejudice and
