RESULTS: What Did You Think Of AVENGERS VS. X-MEN?

Posted: 12 Oct 2012 11:30 AM PDT

Avengers Vs. X-Men was certainly a success in terms of sales, but how did it fare with you, the readers? The reaction from critics has certainly been mixed, with the series criticised for unconvincing characterisation and an uneven tone. I've made no secret of the fact that I didn't enjoy the event and after over a decade of reading Marvel Comics, I will be reading less titles than ever during "Marvel NOW!". The reaction from you guys was far more mixed however, although it IS clear that you were far from blown away by it. As for which side you ended up coming down on, the X-Men just managed to beat Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Start campaigning for those "Cyclops Was Right!" t-shirt's folks...

Old film where vampires turn humans into vampires by stabbing them with a pointy ring and then transferring blood. What is it called?

Posted: 12 Oct 2012 11:25 AM PDT

I watched this sometime between age 5-7 (like 15-17 years ago), and it traumatized me for years. I want to watch this film again, but the only thing I distinctly remember was the fact that vampires couldn't just turn humans into vampires by biting them. They actually had to stab the person with a ring with a sharp point on it (that all the vampires had on one of their fingers) and then transfer a bit of their blood into the puncture.

Deciphering Godspeed You! Black Emperor's 'Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend!' Album Art

Erik Leijon

Godspeed You! Black Emperor -- the ever-elusive purveyors of dystopian gloom and doom -- have emerged from the woodwork (i.e. their Mile End, Montreal abodes) to release their first album in a decade, entitled Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend!

Musically speaking, the album contains the sort of long-form apocalyptic crescendos we've come to expect from the post-rock collective, but there are hints embedded in the music, and perhaps more overtly in the packaging, that suggest the timing of this release is quite specific -- and came together fairly quickly.

For those unaware, this past summer the city of Montreal was swept up in a groundswell youth movement protesting against the proposed raising of university tuition fees. These public protests filled the streets nightly and eventually resulted in the provincial government enacting Bill 78, which curtailed the rights of protesters and made the entire situation a whole lot more combustible.

They were exciting, politically charged times for the citizens of Godspeed's hometown, and although the band was largely silent while these protests were in full swing (unlike Arcade Fire or Stars, for example), Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend! is undoubtedly a belated show of solidarity. Mostly though, the vinyl packaging is a veritable codex of weird text and pictures -- and trying to infer a deeper meaning is all part of the pointless fun of a new Godspeed album.

The Woman in Black: Angels of Death lands director Tom Harper

Tom Harper has signed on to direct the horror sequel The Woman in Black: Angels of Death for Hammer Films. We first reported on the project in April, when Jon Croker signed on to write the screenplay.

The story will take place 40 years after the events portrayed in The Woman in Black, following a group of evacuated children who arrive at the Eel Marsh House during World War II. The script will be based on an original story by The Woman in Black author Susan Hill.

Roy Lee will serve as executive producer for Vertigo Entertainment, which is co-producing alongside Exclusive Media, Talisman, Cross Creek Pictures, and Alliance Entertainment. No production schedule was given.

The Woman in Black, which starred Daniel Radcliffe, took in over $120 million worldwide earlier this year.

The Woman in Black: Angels of Death comes to theaters in 2014.
