Watch Steven Spielberg's 20-Minute Lincoln Featurette 'An American Journey'

Posted: 18 Jan 2013 10:17 AM PST

Last week, when the 85th Annual Academy Awards nominations were announced, Steven Spielberg's Lincoln lead the pack with 12 nominations, including nods for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor. Today, DreamWorks Pictures has debuted the extended behind-the-scenes TV special Lincoln: An American Journey, a 20-minute video that gives fans unprecedented access to the set. Take a look at how Steven Spielberg and his cast and crew crafted this critically-acclaimed drama.

Lincoln - "An American Journey" Featurette

DreamWorks Pictures announced today that a behind-the-scenes special, Lincoln: An American Journey, an exploration of the making of their highly commended film Lincoln, debuts online today, Wednesday, January 16, on Apple iTunes at 12:00 p.m. (PST). The special will also be aired on television on Sunday, January 20, on KCBS at 9:00 a.m. (PST).

Lincoln: An American Journey is an inside look at the making of DreamWorks Pictures' Lincoln, the film that has become a nationwide phenomenon, grossing over $150 million to date since its opening on November 9. Lincoln, directed by Steven Spielberg and produced by Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy, has received more awards nominations than any other film this year, including 12 Academy Award nominations.

The special marks the first time audiences will be able to go behind the scenes with Steven Spielberg, Daniel Day-Lewis and Sally Field to experience how everyone came together over a 12-year journey to bring Lincoln to the big screen.

Here's what he American Film Institute writes of the critically acclaimed film.

"Lincoln belongs to the ages. Steven Spielberg's landmark motion picture enriches the American canon-freeing the Great Emancipator from his tintype image and exploring the wit and wisdom that made the man. Daniel Day-Lewis is instantly iconic, demonstrating an immersion into character that is as honest as it is immediate. Sally Field, Tommy Lee Jones and an extraordinary acting ensemble breathe humanity into history, while Tony Kushner's brilliant screenplay illustrates the power of words to dazzle above the most special of effects. Film legends D.W. Griffith and John Ford each depicted their versions of America's sixteenth president, and Spielberg's now stands beside them with this telling for our time-and for all time."

Lincoln is a revealing drama that focuses on the 16th President's tumultuous final months in office. In a nation divided by war and the strong winds of change, Lincoln pursues a course of action designed to end the war, unite the country and abolish slavery. With the moral courage and fierce determination to succeed, his choices during this critical moment will change the fate of generations to come.

Starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Sally Field, David Strathairn, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, James Spader, Hal Holbrook and Tommy Lee Jones, Lincoln is directed by Steven Spielberg, produced by Steven Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy, with a screenplay by Tony Kushner, based in part on the book "Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln" by Doris Kearns Goodwin.

Lincoln was released November 16th, 2012 and stars Daniel Day-Lewis, Sally Field, David Strathairn, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, James Spader, Hal Holbrook, Tommy Lee Jones, John Hawkes. The film is directed by Steven Spielberg.

Billy Talent have been forced to cancel eight dates on their European tour after a death in the band's inner circle.

"I have 3 things tattooed on my forearm. Friends, Family and Music," singer Ben Kowalewicz wrote on the band's site. "They are the 3 most important things to us. We have lost someone who was very close to us and it's been the most surreal week we've ever experienced. We are not the type of band that cancels shows and never have been in our 20 years together but we feel under the circumstances, that we have to pull out of the remainder of this tour.

"It's a very hard thing to do for us as we don't like to ever let our fans down but we honestly feel that right now we have to be with our friends and family to get through this. We will make it up to you all we promise. We have the most loyal fans in the world and we always stand by you as we hope that you will stand by us in our time of need."

Zombieland TV Series Moves Forward; Casting Details Revealed

Zombieland TV series moves forward and new casting details are unveiled

Back in October 2011, we reported that the hit horror-comedy Zombieland was being adapted into a TV series by Fox and Sony Pictures Television. The project is still alive and well, with casting currently under way. Pages from Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick's Zombieland pilot script have leaked, which reveal characters from the movie such as Tallahassee (Woody Harrelson), Columbus (Jesse Eisenberg), Wichita (Emma Stone), and Little Rock (Abigail Breslin) will be altered slightly. Take a look at these character breakdowns, including information on new characters Fred and Ainsley.

"Tallahassee is still kind of a snarky weirdo, but he seems to have a much less spiky relationship with Columbus. He and Columbus have a pretty amusing thing where they riff on the fact that Steven Seagal movies always have three-word titles like "Marked for Justice" or "May Cause Diarrhea." But Tallahassee also dispenses homespun wisdom about how to feel happy with your life. He also tells a weird story about being in a trailer park with a perpetually nude Matthew McConaughey. He also has a somewhat heartwarming scene where he tells Columbus that he's been wandering aimlessly for a long time, but maybe he's been put here for a reason - to help Columbus and the others.

Columbus is much the same, except that he tracks down his grandma and grandpa (Bubbie and Peepaw) only to find them recently zombiefied. Also, Columbus is trying to deal with his newfound relationship with Wichita, after their first kiss. He has started calling her "Krista," her real name - but there are some problems, especially after she finds him reading a book about fatherhood. He tries to organize a romantic scavenger hunt for her in the IKEA they're camping out in, but it goes kind of horribly.

Wichita is still trying to look after Little Rock, trying to teach her math with problems about someone stealing from a liquor store and jumping on a train going 42 miles per hour, with a cop chasing in a car going 88 miles per hour. We also learn a lot more about Wichita's backstory, including how she ran away from her father after he had her stealing people's Christmas presents - and later, she found out she had a sister who was also being a grifter with her dad.

Little Rock seems actually kind of excited about meeting Columbus' grandparents, before they turn out to be zombies. And she shares some of her own backstory, about how her dad parked her at a school while he went off grifting on his own - and then yanked her out of school right before a dance that she was looking forward to.

Fred and Ainsley are two office workers at the start of the zombie apocalypse, obliviously complaining about problems with their iPhones and getting the wrong order at Starbucks, which they admit are "first world problems" with a hashtag - while people are being disembowled just outside the window they're not facing. Tallahassee shows up to bring them their lunch orders, wearing a green polo shirt."

It isn't clear when production may begin on the pilot. The new report indicates this will be a CBS series. However, there is no indication that CBS picked up the series from Fox and Sony. Interestingly enough, writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick first wrote Zombieland as a TV pilot which sold to CBS but was never produced. We'll have to wait and see if this new show ever comes to fruition.

Zombieland was released October 2nd, 2009 and stars Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin, Amber Heard, Bill Murray, Derek Graf, Jacob G. Akins. The film is directed by Ruben Fleischer.
