ASSASSIN'S CREED And SPLINTER CELL Set For Late 2014? GHOST RECON Adaptation Confirmed

Posted: 02 Jan 2013 10:40 AM PST

"If you look at past adaptations of games to movies, none were done by an integrated gaming company that put a movie structure inside of itself," Jean-Julien Baronnet told The LA Times in a recent interview when asked about the hands-on role that Ubisoft are taking in the big screen adaptations of their biggest video game franchises. "We're not here to just license and we're not here to produce big movies ourselves. We are really in the middle of it." Part of this strategy included the unusual decision (when it comes to game companies anyway) to actually pay writers to develop the stories of their films and the hiring of A-List actors like Michael Fassbender and Tom Hardy before even getting a studio involved. As well as being creatively involved, the site mentions that, "Ubisoft also has the right to co-finance any movie with New Regency, meaning it could invest in a

David Cronenberg Clarifies TDKR Diss: It's ALL CBMs He Feels Can't Be "High Cinematic Art"

Posted: 02 Jan 2013 10:09 AM PST

Back in August during an interview with Next Movie, David Cronenberg revealed his outright dislike for comic book movies. The director singled out Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy in particular, after the interviewer brought them up as examples of how the genre could be elevated. "I think people who are saying, you know, 'Dark Knight Rises' is, you know, supreme cinema art, I don't think they know what the f**k they're talking about," said Cronenberg, who then admitted to enjoying Christopher Nolan's other movies - Memento especially, but continued to say he finds his Batman movies "boring", and that at the end of the day, despite any technical brilliance, they are "still Batman running around in a stupid cape.". Well, this understandably ruffled a few feathers among the fanboys, so when Cronenberg was asked to clarify his comments by The Playlist, he responded.. "What I was saying was that a comic book movie

Alexisonfire Singer Calls Fucked Up 'The Band of this Generation'

Two years after they announced their break up, Canadian hardcore punks Alexisonfire banded together one last time this year for a farewell tour to coincide with their 10-year anniversary. To many, these last shows were filled with celebration and nostalgia, a blast from screamo's short-lived mainstream past. But, as frontman George Pettit points out, genres may come and go, but punk will never go away.

"It's a difficult thing to kill," Pettit tells Spinner. "Punk and hardcore is not going to go away, it goes through those waves where it becomes popular, people get excited about it again and they start putting out zines and promoting their own shows; they build a scene again.

"And then you get an asshole band like Alexisonfire who comes up and they kind of get co-opted by the public and it becomes popular culture and goes into a different direction... that sort of scenario is always happening."

Mountain Goats Q&A: John Darnielle on His Son's Love of 'Scarface' & Not Being Prolific

John Darnielle released the excellent Transcendental Youth last October, all the more astonishing because it's his 14th album with the Mountain Goats, a solo project that he willed into a band over years of growing a fan base primarily obsessed with his incredibly far-ranging narratives. But he runs such a gamut of tones and subjects that his declarative style could sound uplifting when the characters are despairing, a bright tone when the words are gray, and it's easy to get lots in the shoots and ladders game of his many characters, which he swear he doesn't mean to bring up again and again-it just happens. He spoke to Spinner on his new son's strange affinity for "Scarface," his opinions of his own songs and the importance of throwing things away.

Would you say Transcendental Youth is one of the more positive, uplifting Mountain Goats albums?

Uh, well, I don't know. No, I wouldn't say so ... I guess this is where I'm looking at it from but "Until I Am Whole" is not particularly bright in tone and neither is "Lakeside View Apartment Suite." But I guess it's bookended by affirmative stuff, yeah.

Henry Cavill and Ryan Reynolds to Return as Superman and Green Lantern in Justice League?

Henry Cavill may return as Superman in Justice League

2015 is already shaping up to be an epic year at the box office, with Marvel's The Avengers 2 and DC's Justice League tentatively set to arrive that summer. Little has been confirmed for Justice League, which is being written by Will Beall (Gangster Squad). A new report has surfaced today that reveals which superheroes will be present in this massive ensemble, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern. Take a look at these new details, which indicate that Henry Cavill and Ryan Reynolds may reprise their roles as the Man of Steel and Green Lantern.

  • "Superman is essentially the same character from Man of Steel, and Zack Snyder is consulting regarding the writing of the character.
  • Batman: The strategist of the group. Batman doesn't really want to be involved with these super powered beings he considers too powerful. Easily the most complex written.
  • Wonder Woman: She has only been in man's world a few short months. The Wonder Woman script Michael Goldenberg is developing will be set before the Justice League movie.
  • Green Lantern: Will be Ryan Reynolds' character from the Green Lantern: movie, but will be freshly written with a more serious tone.
  • Flash: The most popular hero in civilian eyes who loves media attention, but when called upon is very serious.
  • Martian Manhunter: Alien who has lived on Earth in secret for over a hundred years who has knowledge of Darkseid and his reign.
  • Aquaman: Will be the King of Atlantis who has a key role in the film.
  • There will also be a heavy military presence in the film which in future rewrites could include characters featured in Man of Steel, or even Amanda Waller (Angela Bassett) of which neither are included in the first draft.
  • Alfred Pennyworth is in the film in a minor appearance.
  • Lois Lane is also in the film in a cameo.
  • Darkseid's Elite will be featured who go up against the Justice League early on in the film."

None of this has been confirmed by Warner Bros. at this time. The studio has not found a director yet.

Justice League comes to theaters in 2015.

Hayley Atwell Will NOT Return For CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER

Posted: 02 Jan 2013 09:35 AM PST

After playing coy with "I'm not allowed to say yet," last September, Hayley Atwell had seemingly confirmed she'd be reprising her 'Peggy Carter' role from Captain America: The First Avenger in the 2014 sequel, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. However, a recent interview with the English actress indicates that headlines apparently jumped the gun. An excerpt from her chat with TimeOut simply reveals, "She won't, she confirms, be back for the [Captain America] sequel." Now that Atwell can finally confirm she won't return for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, more questions are raised. Considering the character is at least 80 years old in the present-day of Marvel's shared universe, in which a deleted scene from The Avengers confirmed she was still active, an older actress may be sought out. It's also possible that Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter's relationship will flesh out in a third Captain America film, for which plans have

Idea for a Surprise ending or bonus scene for the new Jj Abram's star trek film coming out next summer.

Posted: 02 Jan 2013 10:28 AM PST

Kirk, spock, and the rest of the crew are sitting around a conference table, "debriefing" but laughing and chatting; they are glad to have survived another adventure. Cue weird light flickerings and electronic noises and then bam! Its like a small explosion went off in the room, complete with that high pitched 'we lost our hearing' noise, and in the chaos, Uhuru is bent over a man who wasn't there a second ago, calling for captain kirk to come over. Kirk runs over and rolls the man face up. Its none other than Patrick stewert in the tattered remains of his starfleet uniform from the next century. When "picard" notices the captain ensignia on kirk's collar, he snaps out of his haze and grabs onto Kirk with an iron grip that belies his injuries and condition. Through gurgles and gasps, "the Borg... coming... you must resi..." and thus ends captain Jean luc picard. The scene ends with all of the crew staring at eachother in disbelief standing over the corpse. You could add an obligatory "he's dead, Jim," from bones. With the star trek universe reset, jj Abram is at liberty to introduce star trek's best bad guys a century early. If you don't believe me that the Borg are the best bad guys, go watch first contact (the definitive star trek movie before the reset). I also find picard dying in kirk's arms a fitting cirlce (in the old star trek universe kirk (bill shatner) dies in picards arms in the one with the nexus).

List off some of your favorite movie moments of 2012

Posted: 02 Jan 2013 08:38 AM PST

The Dark Knight Rises when Batman comes back to fight Bane again. He is finally getting the upper hand on Bane while he throws hard punches all over him. My favorite moment in that film is when Bane is against the pilar at the top of the stairs and Batman wales into him with a series of punches to his stomach as the beautiful score in the background beats that drum music.

Moonrise Kingdom after they get "married" and they are walking out of that church like a boss with all their friends and Jason Schwartzman behind them. And of course when they are dancing in their underwear on the beach, too cute.

Killing Them Softly "This is America....and America is a business....now fucking pay me"

Argo when the guards discover what's going on in the airport and the guard is sprinting down the terminal screaming "get out of the way" in Farsi. That part was not subtitled. And I am Iranian so there was a lot of dialouge in that film that was in Farsi that was not subtitled. I saw it with my parents the first time then my sister the second time and the movie was all the better with the fact that we understood literally every word that was said.

The Master when Phllip Hoffman is "interviewing" Joaquin Phoenix and telling him to make eye contact without blinking and he asks him a series of questions. Great intensity.

The Avengers when Sam Jackson motivated them to keep fighting with the bloody cards and he looks down and sees them flying the ship towards the city with Iron Man flying behind him. That was great.

Flight the entire plane crash scene was awesome. Also the part in the end where Denzen gets drunk and John Goodman comes to the rescue with cocaine, haha. "and a 100 dollar bill....I've got a 20....that'll do."

Skyfall When Javier first meets Craig...that whole scene.

Looper (SPOILERS).....turns that blunderbuster right on his own chest....awesome.
