Kick-Ass 2 First Official Photo with Jim Carrey as Colonel Stars and Strips

Posted: 19 Jan 2013 09:34 AM PST

The first official photo from Kick-Ass 2 has arrived. Aaron Johnson returns in costume as the vigilante Kick-Ass, and this time he is teaming up with the superhero team Justice Forever, led by Colonel Stars and Strips. We saw photos from the set of Jim Carrey as Colonel Stars and Stripes, but here is a more polished look at this middle-aged crime fighter standing alongside Kick-Ass, a couple of sodas, and his loyal guard dog Sophia.

Kick-Ass 2 Photo

In the comic books, Colonel Stars and Stripes is actually two characters, Colonel Stars and Lieutenant Stripes. And Sophia? Let's just say, if you're an animal lover, and you adore the above photo simply because of the masked German Shepard...Maybe this movie is not for you.

Here is an official description of the characters from the book, which have been combined into Jim Carrey's Colonel Stars and Stripes. Careful, though this is from the comic book, it does contain some hard core spoilers for the movie.

"Sal started out as a soldier for the Genovese crime family, working alongside his brother Lieutenant Stripes. Then at some point, both brothers found religion and decided to repent for their crimes. Inspired by Kick-Ass, they formed the Justice Forever team and set out to clean up the city as superheroes.

When Colonel Stars and Lieutenant Stripes both formed Justice Forever, they invited several other superheroes to join. They recruited Remembering Tommy, Night Bitch, Insect Man, and Battle Guy. Soon after, Kick-Ass joined the group, and, after which, the team led an attack on an apartment which had been rumored to be a front for prostitution. Sal had his men attack the lowlifes that infested the apartment, and had his guard dog, Sophia, disable the head of the prostitution plot by signaling the animal to bite down on the man's testicles. After the rescuing the prostitutes, Sal had promised the man that if he had heard any other rumors about the apartment, he would crush him.

Tragically, Sal ended up becoming the first victim of Red Mist and his new gang of super-villains. After killing his dog and trashing his hideout, they left his defiled body to be discovered by the police. His murder almost swayed Hit-Girl to come out of retirement. It is actually implied by Kick-Ass that he may have been in poor health before Red Mist attacked him."

Kick-Ass 2 comes to theaters June 28th, 2013 and stars Aaron Johnson, Lyndsy Fonseca, Chloe Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Nicolas Cage, Clark Duke, Evan Peters, John Leguizamo. The film is directed by Jeff Wadlow.

Solution to the "Rainmaker Dilemma" in Looper (Spoilers)

Posted: 19 Jan 2013 09:55 AM PST

Recently, there have been many discussions about the so called "rainmaker dilemma" in the movie looper. Here is a summary of the dilemma

In the original timeline where young Joe kills old Joe, Cid grows up to be the rainmaker, closes all the loops, and causes old Joe's wife to be killed. Old Joe goes back in time, tries to kill Cid to stop him from becoming the rainmaker, but mistakenly kills his mom instead. This causes Cid to become the rainmaker. Young Joe realizes this and kills himself, stopping Cid from becoming the rainmaker. The dilemma is that Cid became the rainmaker in the original timeline (where young Joe kills old Joe) anyway. So young Joe killing himself should not have stopped Cod from becoming the rainmaker (here's a link to the full argument, http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Infographic-Illustrates-Major-Flaw-Looper-Ending-33458.html)

Here's the solution:

The problem with this argument is that it ignores a major theme introduced in the movie-possible futures. In the dinner, old Joe says that there are many possible futures. In at least one, old Joe meets his wife, and that's why he's still able to remember her. In the universe of looper, the present is happening now, but there are many possible futures. In at least one. Old Joe comes from a possible future where he (when he was young) killed his future self, grew up, met his wife and went back in time after his wife was killed. In this future, Cid became the rainmaker somehow. Possibly another looper went back and killed his mother. When he goes back in time, different alternative futures are created, but in at least one of them, Cid grows up to be the rainmaker and Joe meets his wife. If there wasn't at least one, old Joe would disappear. In the end when young Joe kills himself, there are now no possible futures where Joe meets his wife and goes back in time because he never existed. Cid's mother is alive and Cid may or may not become the rainmaker. Possibly in some futures he does and in others he doesn't. Maybe now that Cids mother knows of the rainmaker futures she will do everything in her power to stop them. Nevertheless, it is not an inevitability.

What do you guys think?
