300: Rise of an Empire Story Details Reveal Timeline Will Interesect with 300

300: Rise of an Empire will intersect with 300 says Rodrigo Santoro

One of the 2013 releases we know very little about is 300: Rise of an Empire, a spin-off of the 2007 blockbuster 300. Director Zack Snyder did not return to the helm, with Noam Murro stepping in. However, Rodrigo Santoro, who reprises his role as Xerxes, said this follow-up will still "match up" with the original blockbuster, revealing there is a point where both movies intersect.

"I think it will match, because the idea is matching -- characters and style and all that. Especially because they're calling it like a spinoff, you get bits of the first movie. There's a place where they meet, the first movie and the second movie, but it's a different director. I didn't see the movie yet, the final result, but the experience -- I mean, Zack was pretty much involved because he wrote it and he's producing it. His hands are there, but Noam will have his own take on directing it. I think it's going to be pretty awesome, and the fans are going to be pleased."

The actor also reveals that one of the reasons we know so little about the story may be because the plot was always evolving.

"It would be about Xerxes at first, but then they changed the whole thing. I would say that you get to know a little bit about [Xerxes'] backstory, which I thought is pretty cool. It's more like you have the new Athenian, Sullivan (Stapleton). You have Eva Green's character, which is a commander, a naval commander, my naval commander, and you have Xerxes. It gravitates between all three, what's going on."

300: Rise of an Empire comes to theaters August 2nd, 2013 and stars Eva Green, Rodrigo Santoro, Sullivan Stapleton, Mark Killeen, Jack O'Connell, Hans Matheson, Andrew Tiernan, Callan Mulvey. The film is directed by Noam Murro.

Anjelica Huston joins the cast of The Winter Queen

Seven Arts Entertainment Inc. today announced that subject to contract both Anjelica Huston and David Thewlis have accepted the roles of "Lady Astair" and "Count Zurov" in the picture The Winter Queen. They will join Milla Jovovich who has long been attached to star as "Lady Amalia".

Additional casting announcements will be made shortly with principal photography expected to commence this April.

Based on the internationally best selling novel by Boris Akunin and helmed by acclaimed Russian director Fedor Bondarchuk, The Winter Queen tells the story of intrepid young police detective Erast Fandorin and a mystery that begins with the suicides of several wealthy young men throughout 1886Russia and ends in an extensive plot for global domination.Fandorin's na&#239ve wit and the suave yet volatile Count Zurov are his only protection from the ever more elaborate attempts on his life as he follows the conspiracy from Russia to England and back again; navigating unknown worlds with charm if not with ease. The enigmatic femme fatale Amalia seems to be somehow at the centre of it all, but can the saintly British aristocrat Lady Astair, founder of a string of orphanages which have greatly benefited from the wills of the affluent dead men, really be trusted?

Here's what Seven Arts Entertainment CEO Peter Hoffman had to say in a statement.

"Fedor and I are pleased to welcome Ms. Huston and Mr. Thewlis to our international cast of The Winter Queen which will start principal photography this spring. This production will be the first of two expected major productions this year."

Guillermo Del Toro Says No to Directing Star Wars: Episode VII

Posted: 07 Jan 2013 09:03 AM PST

Guillermo del Toro will not direct Star Wars: Episode VII

The task of finding a director for Star Wars: Episode VII has been a process of elimination. Ever since Disney announced in October that the highly-anticipated sequel is in development, numerous high-profile directors have taken themselves out of the running for this coveted job. Today, Guillermo del Toro revealed that he was offered the job, but turned it down.

"We got one phone call to my agent saying, 'Is Guillermo interested?' And basically I have so much stuff already of my own, and I'm pursuing stuff that I'm generating already. It was very flattering. It was just a phone call, it didn't go past that, it was very nice to be asked, but believe it or not, I'm busy enough."

When asked who he would like to see direct what will surely be the most anticipated movie of the 21st Century, the filmmaker revealed he wanted Brad Bird to take the helm.

"I think the fans deserve somebody that is just going to immerse themselves completely. As a geek, I would have loved to see Brad Bird take it."

Unfortunately, Brad Bird revealed in November that he is not making Star Wars: Episode VII. Michael Arndt is writing the screenplay, with Disney eyeing a 2015 release.

Star Wars: Episode VII comes to theaters in 2015.

Guillermo Del Toro Will Try To Make AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS Again

Posted: 07 Jan 2013 08:53 AM PST

In 2011, Universal Pictures decided not to greenlit Guillermo del Toro's adaptation of the H.P. Lovecraft novella At The Mountains Of Madness, because the studio wanted a PG-13 rating despite GDT's insistence on an R-rating. Last year, the director stated that, due to the premise being similar to that of Ridley Scott's Prometheus, it'll be a while before we see the project come to life. Now, in an interview with The Playlist, the Hellboy director discusses the movie, and reveals that he's going to try to make it "one more time". "I'm going to try it one more time. Once more into the dark abyss. We're gonna do a big presentation of the project again at the start of the year and see if any [studio's] interested." Del Toro also confirms that action star Tom Cruise is still attached to star in the adaptation. "Yeah, Tom is still attached. I think

Oz the Great and Powerful Has a Wicked Witch That Lusts After Power and Evil

Rachel Weisz talks Oz the Great and Powerful

Rachel Weisz has revealed her role as the Wicked Witch of the East in Sam Raimi's Oz: The Great and Powerful, clearing up one of the mysteries that surrounds the film. While we knew that she is playing Evanora, and Mila Kunis is playing Theodora, there has long been some confusion as to which one of these lovely ladies will eventually succumb to a flying house falling on her head. Now we know. It will be Rachel Weisz who is killed off early in this fantasy adventure series (not a spoiler if you've seen The Wizard of Oz).

The actress recently spoke out about playing the evil witch, and revealed the personality and drive behind her character.

"It was a fun idea to be playing someone who is really, really bad. I can't think of any roles that I've had like that before... She's really, really a bad person and she revels in being bad. It's a Disney film, so I shouldn't say she is 'turned on' by evil, but that's what it is like... She enjoys it, like the meaner she is the more pleasure she gets.

The film centers on small-time magician Oscar Diggs (James Franco), who after one to many scams finds himself thrown into the fantastical Land of Oz. There he transforms himself into the powerful Wizard and finds a way to turn himself into a better man.

Oz: The Great and Powerful comes to theaters March 8th, 2013 and stars Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, James Franco, Michelle Williams, Zach Braff, Abigail Spencer, Joey King, Bill Cobbs. The film is directed by Sam Raimi.
