Who Are Some Of The Scariest, Non-Horror Movie Characters?

Posted: 05 Jan 2013 09:03 AM PST

I want to know how some performances can be considered scary without being labeled as "horror." Whether it was their personality or their physical appearance, just anything that instilled fear or negative emotions. Example: I think that Colonel Hans Landa from Inglourious Basterds is a very intimidating and sometimes frightening character. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8uldpQpoZQM

Looper Review/Discussion/Rant [SPOILERS]

Posted: 05 Jan 2013 10:23 AM PST

Just saw Looper last night and my opinion is all over the place. This is a great, highly entertaining movie with phenomenal acting and a lot of action. It was fun while I was viewing it, but the plot holes left me with so many questions that once I dove into them it began to bother me that so much was left in a messy state. The director, in several interviews, doesn't even seem to care that his story couldn't have happened the way he claims, falling back on one of Bruce Willis' lines in the film where he says, "I don't want to talk about time travel shit."

I'm a lover of science fiction and understand that there is a fair amount of disbelief one has to accept in order to enjoy a story. However, Johnson's narrative jumps back and forth between things that could only happen in a singular timeline and things that would have to happen in multiple timelines without giving it an ounce of explanation. Why? Because he can't.

The moral conundrum of the story is wonderful and I enjoyed that very much. My favorite work in the genre, though, is when the science fiction is much tighter. The closer an idea is to being believable, the more terrifying or incredible my reaction can be.

Curious how others felt about the impossibilities presented by the story and whether or not this affected you at all or you just chose to ignore it and enjoy the film based on what it gives you.

First Two Clips From HANSEL AND GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS

Posted: 05 Jan 2013 09:39 AM PST

Catching up with Hansel (Jeremy Renner) and Gretel (Gemma Arterton), fifteen years after the traumatic incident involving a gingerbread house, the siblings have grown into vengeful bounty hunters dedicated to exterminating witches. Over the years, the siblings became expert hunters, famous for their proficiency at tracking and taking down their prey. Although still recovering from their ordeal, their work is relatively easy as for an unknown reason harmful spells and curses do not work well against them. The Mayor of Augsburg recruits them to rid the town and nearby forests of an evil sorceress (Famke Janssen) who is planning to sacrifice many local children at the witches' gathering during the upcoming 'Blood Moon' night in two days time. To make things worse, the duo also has to deal with the brutal Sheriff Berringer (Peter Stormare) who has taken power in Augsburg and conducts a very indiscriminate witch-hunt of his own. BOX OFFICE: TEXAS CHAINSAW 3D Opens At #1; DJANGO UNCHAINED Lands At #2

Posted: 05 Jan 2013 09:33 AM PST

Originally, it was expected that Warner Bros.' The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey would be #1 at the box office for a fourth week in a row, with Lionsgate's Texas Chainsaw 3D (the biggest new release this weekend) debuting at #2. The slasher film, which is described as a direct sequel to the 1974 original Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie, was initially projected to gross somewhere in the mid-teens in its opening weekend. However, the movie has now surpassed expectations and grossed $10.2 million on Friday, putting it in the #1 spot. It's now projected to gross somewhere in the $20 million range this weekend. Another surprise sees Quentin Tarantino's revenge thriller Django Unchained grossing $6.2 million and dropping only 36%. While it's possible that these films' R-ratings will prevent them from outgrossing the PG-13 The Hobbit and Les Miserables this weekend, it appears that Texas Chainsaw will keep the former from reaching

Posted: 05 Jan 2013 09:07 AM PST

Stand-up comedian and celebrated podcast host Marc Maron recently had actor and director Jon Favreau on his WTF Podcast show. Lots and lots of interesting conversation topics covered but below you'll find some brief excerpts concerning Cowboys and Aliens and Iron Man. Talking about his breakthrough film, Swingers, Favreau states that success is difficult to handle and the pressure to follow that up can almost develop feelings of paralysis that you'd associate with failure. At this point, the conversation turned to Cowboys and Aliens, where Favreau stated, "Cowboys and Aliens, it didn't bomb but it was definitely a 'pillow party'. You always feel this way about the latest project you've done but I feel like it's the most evolved work I've done. Plus, the experience of working with Spielberg, Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, 'Kurtzman and Orci' and Damon Lindelof and then Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig, it was
