Jason Eisener Heads to Blatant Violence High

Jason Eisener enrolls at Blatant Violence High

Hobo with a Shotgun was one of the most gleefully gory exploitation films to hit in recent years, and director Jason Eisener has become a small super star in the world of neo-Grindhouse cult fare. So it only goes to reason that interest in his next project would be quite high.

Its been known for awhile that the B-movie auteur was going to follow-up his gloriously bloody feature-length directorial debut with a movie called BVH. It wasn't known until know what that stood for, or what the movie would be about. While at UK's Frightfest, director, cinematographer, and Jason Eisener collaborator Karim Hussain was asked what he was working on next, and his answer was Blatant Violence High.

Blatant Violence High will be Jason Eisener official follow-up to Hobo with a Shotgun. It is said to be a martial arts film set in the world of high school. Jason Eisener himself says that its based on the old home computer video game Vigilante, and will be influenced by the 1979 cult classic The Warriors.

Back when Hobo with a Shotgun was released in theaters, we chated exclusively with the director about this project. Here is what he had to say.

"Riki-Oh is an influence on (this) next film, a little bit. Riki-Oh is definitely an influence on Hobo with a Shotgun in a lot of ways. But there will be more of an influence on the next one. It's a martial arts movie that takes place at a high school. It's about all of the worst kids who have ever gotten kicked out of their high schools, and they are all brought to this really insane high school. Its like Escape From New York in some ways, yet set inside a high school. Its very much in the same vein as Hobo with a Shotgun. It looks at what high school life would be like in that world."

Blatant Violence High comes to theaters in 2012. The film is directed by Jason Eisener.

COMICS: More Details And Preview Art For Schism #4; The End Of The X-Men Begins Here!

Posted: 27 Aug 2011 10:10 AM PDT

"When I came on as X-Men group editor, I wanted there to be a mission statement for each book. Looking at titles like "Uncanny X-Men" and "X-Men," I was left wondering, Who are the X-Men? What is the core book? At the end of the day, we give fans what we think they want and what we think they'll buy. And if they don't buy it, we stop giving it to them. It's as simple as that. In the aftermath of "Schism," we have a fundamental split in the X-Men universe that gives us a launching pad for two very different monthly titles, each with their own mission statement." "For each character, we asked, who would their heart follow? Again, "Schism" is a deep philosophical divide that's driving these teams apart. When people ask, "Will it be possible there will be members of both teams?" the answer is: No. These aren't two

Stallone Rewrites Bullet to the Head & Expendables 2 Wants Taylor Lautner

Posted: 27 Aug 2011 09:41 AM PDT

Courtesy of Twitch Films: We are told that production wrapped on the film yesterday and while they began with a script adapted from the graphic novel by The Messenger scribe Alessandro Camon they ended with a draft written by Stallone himself. Whether this was a polish or a full rewrite is not clear but Stallone's fingerprints are very much on the script. As for the story itself, for those unfamiliar, Stallone plays an aging hitman who teams with a young cop (Sung Kang) to bring down a common enemy. Bullet To The Head is currently set for an April 13, 2012 release. Stallone who is quite the writer, make that quite the bad writer, has decided to make sure that the adaption of the french graphic novel, Du plomb dans la tête (or, Bullet to the Head) has no shot of being good. I know Stallone won an oscar for his Rocky screenplay, but

The Onion News Network Takes Blame for East Coast Natural Disasters

The ONN takes blame for East Coast earthquake

Natural disasters are sweeping the East Coast of our great nation: An Earthquake struck Tuesday afternoon in Virginia, and a hurricane is currently making its way north from Florida. Shedding light on this situation, the Onion News Network announced today that both events were caused by the omnipresent hand of the most powerful name in cable news, The Onion News Network.

For decades The Onion News Network has been developing a machine called the DXG-479, also known as the Disastronome XG-479, designed to create natural disasters at will. The science behind the machine is too complicated for most Americans to understand, but suffice to say it involves thousands of hydraulic pistons buried deep in the Earth's crust, harnessing the gravitational pull of the moon. This week the world saw the results of The Onion News Network's initial tests of the Disastronome.

The purpose of building this machine is obvious: It will allow The Onion News Network to become even more dominant as the world's number-one cable news channel.

Bracing for slow news days in the not too distant future where the only headlines are about Barack Obama giving up on another policy debate and Kim Kardashian 's divorce proceedings, the network eagerly awaits the opportunity to utilize this newfound technology.

Seemingly out of nowhere, a tornado can touch down directly on top of a fireworks factory filled with elementary school students on a field trip. The Onion News Network will be first to the scene ahead of time to start cameras rolling.

"The Disastronome is every cable news journalist's dream," said The Onion News Network's lead anchor Brooke Alvarez. "The footage will be glorious: Children running for their lives as the tornado whips the fireworks up into a whirling funnel of explosions. An animated headline and my face will swoosh onto every TV screen in America reading 'Special Report: Twister Terror Grips The Heartland.'"

With the Disastronome, The Onion News Network can now cover a new catastrophe every day of the week, from mud slides to wildfires to never-before-seen natural disasters such as thundernadoes and lava blizzards.

The second season of Onion News Network premieres October 4th at 10pm on IFC.

Tokyo Police Club Cover Kelly Clarkson's 'Since U Been Gone' -- Song Premiere

If there's one thing we can all agree on, it's Kelly Clarkson's 'Since U Been Gone.' Upon its release in 2004 -- the tumultuous year that saw the reelection of George W. Bush -- Clarkson's tuneful kiss-off appealed to liberals and conservatives alike, signaling a ceasefire in the nation's then-raging culture war.

As this new cover version by Tokyo Police Club suggests, it went over well in Canada, too.

Martin Scorsese and William Monahan Team for The Gambler

Posted: 27 Aug 2011 09:21 AM PDT

Martin Scorsese to remake The Gambler

Don't get your panties in a bunch, Kenny Rogers fans! Director Martin Scorsese and writer William Monahan are remaking The Gambler. But rest assured, it's the 1974 drama from director Karel Reisz that starred James Caan as an English professor with a gambling problem. Not a reimagining of the great bearded one's time spent in the old west.

Leonardo DiCaprio is wanted for the lead role in this new version of The Gambler, though no deal is in place yet. Irwin Winkler, producer of the original, will be back to produce this new version as well.

William Monahan will base his screenplay on the short novel of the same name from Fyodor Dostoyevsky. The story finds this New York teacher so desperate to bet his meager wages that he ends up extorting money from his own mom and eventually has one of his students rig a basketball game.

Martin Scorsese is locked in to direct both Silence and The Wolf of Wall Street sometime in the near future, as well as participate in The Five Obstructions: Scorsese Vs. Trier, which will find him redirected pieces of his own classic Taxi Driver. Its not clear where The Gambler falls within all of that, or how close to the end of the decade we will actually see it.

The Gambler was released September 1974 and stars James Caan, Paul Sorvino, Lauren Hutton, Morris Carnovsky, Jacqueline Brookes, Burt Young, Carmine Caridi, Vic Tayback. The film is directed by Karel Reisz.
