Films that have accurately predicted cultural or technological trends? Posted: 22 Apr 2012 08:58 AM PDT Specifically, representing simplifications in technology rather than more extravagant or ridiculous ones. The only legitimate example I can think of is the tablet (Ipad etc) in 2001: A Space Odyssey, as opposed to say, Maxwell Smart talking into his shoe. [link] [2 comments] |

Question about 'Spirited Away' Posted: 22 Apr 2012 08:57 AM PDT Saw Spirited Away for the first time last night. Absolutely loved it. But one small thing bothered me: Lin the bath-house worker. When she first meets Sen, she is really surly with her and treats her with no respect or concern. Then later on, when they're eventually alone with each other she immediately softens and reveals she is actually a nice person after all. She exclaims: "you did well! I can't believe you made it this far!" and smiles, completely changing her mannerism. Initially I thought that this was something to do with the fact that the others would be suspicious if she was nice to Sen around them. But then after that point, she never returns to her strict, uncaring manner towards Sen, so I want to know why she was putting on that act in the first place. She does it in front of the boiler guy, and she does it when her and Sen are alone, which leads me to think that she genuinely doesn't like Sen at first- but if so, what made her suddenly soften like that? It looks like she's putting on the sternness for an act, but that doesn't seem to add up either, an act for whom? Like I say, she does it when they're alone, and she does it when the boiler guy is the only one there, and she doesn't need to hide anything from him. [link] [6 comments] |

I want to be able to keep a log on either a (free) Website, app or software? Posted: 22 Apr 2012 09:36 AM PDT I know there's a few apps but they cost money. I want to do it as cheaply as possible. Help? If it's a software then I'll just torrent it. [link] [2 comments] |

RUMOR: THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Flawless, Surmounts THE DARK KNIGHT Posted: 22 Apr 2012 08:20 AM PDT A "reliable source" for Cosmic Book News is reporting that his friend has seen a rough cut of The Dark Knight Rises and calls it, "a flawless movie." And that is some high praise since the supposed viewer didn't even get to see all the CGI shots completed. It is one of those films that leaves you on the edge of your seat much like The Dark Knight did, in that it feels like a rollercoaster, like you have no idea where the story will go. I have been told a summary of the movie, and I definitely don't want to spoil it, but if you think you know where it is heading, think again! Catwoman is more in line with the comics than people think despite her not having a whip or cowl. It's more character driven and less about looks. Bane is so frickin' ruthless it's bad, like Joker is crazy and |

To anyone who has seen the movie "Super 8" Posted: 22 Apr 2012 06:33 AM PDT There is no Super 8 subreddit for me to ask on, so this might be the next best place. Does anybody know what/if there is an underlying theme to the movie? I am supposed to write a paper on the deeper meaning and underlying theme(s) of it, and I am kind of stumped to be honest. Any help would be appreciated. [link] [12 comments] |
